It's a nice figure of some guy cosplaying as Ash.

Wow! Put that back in,it’s not done yet.
Man,Mezco has the worst time with likenesses. Ghostbusters were awful last I saw. All that time, all that detail and they still let that out. Once again, neca is just perfection in my eyes. Keep trying Mezco. |

Honestly, it looks much better in person. Bought myself one about two months back and I love it. Great figure, detail is fantastic especially on the Deadite Ash head.

Those headsculpts looks pathetic, besides the Deadite one. I dunno if Mezco credits their sculptors but I'd be ashamed to have my name attached to that.

Honestly, as not great as the likeness is, several of the photos in this shoot REALLY make the likeness look pretty damn good. I mean really, these are some great shots!
I got one of these. I try to buy every reasonably affordable Evil Dead/Army of Darkness figure I can get and I'm amazed to see how good the fabric on this looks for the scale it's in.I've seen 12" figures that don't wear fabric clothes as well as this does. One thing I did do was to use a clear drying fabric glue and a toothpick to edge the torn fabric to keep it from fraying further. It's a really nice figure and NECA could take some lessons from Mezco on cloth wearing figures as well as the interchangeable left hands, lol. This compared to the 8" Retro Ash is unfortunate in my eyes because the NECA Retro figure looks awkward and I never really liked the end result so for me, this blows my Retro figure away. Now if you compare the NECA 30th anniversary set to this you realize you just MAY have overpayed for the Mezco figure. This IS $70-$80 at retail...ouch! In perspective the NECA 30th anniversary boxed set is only $50-ish and the accessories are great like an opening necronomicon and a Kandarian Dagger, three great heads with excellent expressions on them AND it comes with an entire other figure, Deadite Ed with two different heads itself both with opening and closing mouths and a ton of articulation. Not saying I regret my Mezco purchase...since I didn't pay full price. I got mine on Amazon for $70 shipped and had an extra $30 off so $50 felt about right to me for what you get and it does still have a rather premium quality feel and look to it. I haven't read any issues at all with this figure except for the likeness not being great...but that price though. I guess what you're paying for is making sure none of these ship out with ANY real defects? In comparison the NECA 30th Anniversary set...I've seen a lot of assembly errors and badly painted heads for Ash. I bought two of those sets and another four loose Ash's online and I've had a lot of them come in with assembly, paint and factory damage issues here and there, but haven't read much of problems for the Mezco figure. Maybe that's the trade off for a lower retail price? |

I'd argue that the NECA figure is the far better value overall. |

The 7" 30th anniversary figure is actually the best value over all for the prices. For just $20 more than the 8" Retro figure was at the time it was at retail and $20 to $30 less than the Mezco figure, you get three Ash heads, the deer head, the book, the dagger and Ed with another head and tons of articulation. Even just comparing the NECA figures, the retro figure has less value for what you get than their fully sculpted figures. If NECA just designed their retro bodies better at the time and kept their paint detail to the same level as their 7" figures there wouldn't be that much issue but they cheaped out and charged more than their 7" figures. Mezco is way overpriced but they got the cloth wearing figures right and it gives them the look of a bigger figure at an inch and a half shorter than the NECA Retro figure. If you can get the Mezco figure for less than $70 I'd say get it. |
