You are a lucky, lucky person.
That picture makes me think of Halloween more than Christmas actually. What a stomach ache! |

I got two MOC in my collection: MU Warbird and Showdown Beast (blue)
Though Beast will most likely be set free soon. I got a loose Warbird (have fun w that) but I'm keeping the MOC cuz its a really cool looking piece. Minimal MOC displayed with a loose collection looks cool to me. Like select museum paintings are easier on the eye instead of wall-to-wall art, which can be a little much. At the end of the day, to each his own. Just enjoy it. |

I have occasionally considered keeping the ones I hunt for in stores MOC and seeing about getting them loose in lots to cut down on costs. But buying things in double for me would be pushing it financially.

I think a lot of who you are as a collector boils down to 3 major factors. $$, space, and what you over all want to get out buying toys. $$ if you got lots then don't complain as you can afford a big house, buy case loads of toys and buy anything and everything you want. If you have this then you can afford 2-3 or mroe of everything and leave some moc and some open. If space is an issue then what you buy will reflect that, aka maybe MU figures moc as you can display and hold more then ML or MI. Lastly is what you want out of toys. So are you buying them to display and leave moc never to touch, and then possibly resell them for a profit.
Some people buy toys cheap and resell for double, tripple or more because the demand and popularity is there. Like buying a ML deadpool figure for $20 and selling it for $100. If you want to display, do dios, battle scenes, take pictures, poses, customs, etc you need to open. It is easier to display toys MOC as a thumbtack will due. Loose requires, shelving, display cases, and more laterial space, where as moc is typically more vertical and horizonal wall space, unless placed in tubs for storage, but seriously at that point why bother? That's either an indiciation you need more space as you have too many toys, or you're buying for the sake of buying and not for the love of collecting. Honestly when it all comes down to it, you work for your $$ what you spend it on is up to you, so what you do with the items you spent your money on is up to you as well. It's kinda like going to Walmart and spending $50 on a batman video game only to put it on your shelf and never play with it. No different then a $50 transformer toy keeping it moc and not touching it. I don't see the point in it, except for resale value. I'm getting a moc ML series 6 Deadpool soon and I plan to keep him MOC, as much as I want to open him up and play with him, I'm going to keep him MOC due to the rarity of him and the collectabiity plus my space issue, easier for me to peg him then cram him into my display case. |

When I used to collect MOC GI Joe and during early MU waves, I had a toy room w star cased cards that looked a lot like this pic of yours.
I did the hell out of GI Joe and the MOC angle. So much so it burned me out and both the Joe line and card collecting. With a loose collection I know that in case of an emergency there's a damn good chance I can save all my toys when the world ends. |

open it..wtf is the point of keeping it MOC?...i understand if you're in it for business like having a comic shop. with loose figures you can enjoy yer figures and sling it when you get tired of them. wrap them in those little ziplock bags just like slingin a dub sack or a ten shot. $20 for the rares and $10 for the commons. you still get yer money back.

I used to buy doubles 1 moc 1 open but I fell on hard times and can no longer afford to so now I have to choose. if I can find what I want retail then it's moc but if I can get it from fellow arkers or eBay at a deal loose so be it. But now I mainly get my figures here due to my situation

It all depends. I keep anything super rare like comiccon exlusives mib, but majority I open. I have a few items left moc, incase I loose my job then I got enough to sell and make rent easily enough lol. If you plan to collect ML and I mean the older stuff, you will spend a fortune buying moc, and shipping moc, loose lots are the way to go. save you a lot of $$.

Well , there are 2 ways at looking at this. Keeping will RETAIN value for SURE. Moc collectors ARE NOT GOING to pay top dollar for LOOSE items. Opened figures LOSE ALL VALUE. Once you open them price point is WORTHLESS. If you have money then buy a couple for a RAINY day. You will be glad you did. Carded RARE figures can fetch a pretty penny. Good examples of carded figures below.

Ok... a few things...first I would say that loose figs DO NOT loose ALL of their value. Check out the bay and what some of the loose figs are going for. ML Deadpool loose or MOC can both catch a pretty penny, granted a MOC will go for more usually. 2nd - I have a large collection, I have tons of MOC figs, but due to my job, I move alot. Keeping figures MOC and moving every so many years takes its toll on the figs and you. Ever tried packing 700-1100 MOC figs and keeping them MOC?? It gets old after, say the 4th or 5th move, and eventually they are going to acuire some amount of damage to their package. Loose figs are easier to pack. 3rd - loose figs look great on display, I have a man cave and keep the majority of my collection loose to be displayed in it. It looks cool, it impresses any visitors. In the end you do what works for you, if you think you will make some money off your collection, then leave em MOC and store them properly, if you want to display and enjoy your collection, open them and enjoy them! Displays can be set up using bookcases, tables etc...I mounted 5 10' boards to one of my walls, painted them black and had instant shelves for around 45$. For me, opening my collection is part of the fun and it serves a purpose of ease of packing come moving time...guess its up to you really though...

oh yeah....one more thing....no one's collection is worth more than some one is willing to pay for it (loose or MOC), so also consider how much you paid for it...

There's something to be said about a nicely packaged toy sitting in your collection. But, at the same time, they're so much fun to play with. I personally keep a photo archive of my sealed figures, and then open them to play with. I am more prone to touch an open figure and fiddle with it than I am with a sealed one, and at that point, the sealed ones are just collecting dust.
