This idea was inspired by a suggestion in the MattyCollector Illumina thread I read from Bruticus and I have been working on it since then.
Now, I'm ready to introduce Illumina Day! Direct image URL: http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6238/...cbdc9ffe_z.jpg This is a fun event meant for fans of Illumina to help spread the word about the character and show your support for her. You can take part in this even if you had no idea who she was before reading this thread. If you think she and/or her cat would make a cool figure in MOTUC, you should take part! You can check out my site if you have questions about the event: Illumina in MOTUC - Illumina Day! (You can find signature banners and advertisement posters there as well) The main image to re-post on other message boards should make everything pretty clear. I hope you guys participate! I have some new images to share! I made some collage photos to show potential parts re-use and Illumina's creator updated his MOTUC Illumina concept the next day based upon the newly available MOTUC parts. So, here are all the pics!
Here's the sketch turnaround image by Illumina's creator to see all the details of Illumina's top, skirt and tiara:

Well, it turns out there will be a MOTUC Fan Choice Poll! Mattel chooses 6 characters, He-Man.org chooses 1 character and He-Man.de chooses 1 character. The ballot of 8 characters gets to be voted on by 2013 MOTUC subscribers via a special code you get upon subscribing. The character that wins will be made in late 2013! The poll is specifically for the more obscure, not well known characters. This should be a fun event and it's something Illumina could be part of. Toyguru mentioned her by name at NYCC when naming off some characters that could be a part of this!

Just a reminder that Illumina Day is only 35 days away! If you want to take part by drawing, baking, sculpting, painting, gluing or sewing something...it would be a good time to get started (if you haven't already)!

Seems like a cool character, and that it would make a great figure, but Im simply not artistic or patient enough to contribute much I think... HOWEVER...
@Darkspecter: I would be honoured if you would sign-up for the "MOTU Classics Fraternity" social group here. Its a great way to show your love. Just checkout my profile here for the link

Just checkout my profile here for the link Thanks for inviting me to your group! I joined. I may not post too often on ToyArk, but I love the toy coverage and pictures here! I almost forgot to mention, a new fan page for Illumina just started up! This is the type of page you just hit the "like" button to follow. It will be easier to manage and follow. Pictures/Galleries are SO simple and easy to view on fan pages, but not so much in a Group. Anyway, I encourage everyone that's interested in getting an Illumina figure in MOTUC one day, to join the new page! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Illumina/126879017421493 When Illumina Day takes place, I will also add all the entries to the page to share with everyone!

No problem.
Illumina Day is coming soon and December 1st marks the beginning of the countdown! I encourage everyone who supports Illumina in MOTUC to change their avatar to an Illumina-related one tonight or tomorrow (Dec. 1st). You can make your own, or one of the 36 ones I created available here: IlluminaAvatars - a set on Flickr Here are a few samples if you don't want to click the link. lol

I have a few announcements today!
1) He-Man.org has started their fan-vote poll (winning character to be added to Mattel's list 2013 subscribers get to vote on). I'm very excited to see Illumina is doing well in both the German fan poll and the .org fan poll. Illumina is currently first place on the .org and 2nd place in the German fan poll at 79 votes. The German-vote first place is Geldor with 114 (yes, I counted all the votes from the four different German sites ). I think it's a sure bet that he will win, but you never know because fans can change their votes on the German sites. Surprises could still happen! If you are a member of He-Man.org, please be sure to vote here: He-Man.org > News > 2011 He-Man.org Official Figure Fan Choice! - Vote now for the Org entry to Mattel's fan poll! If you are a German fan, here are the links to vote for the various sites: PlanetEternia.de: Planet Eternia - He-Man und die Masters of the Universe MotU-Allianz: Jetzt abstimmen: Deutscher Entscheid der "Fan´s Choice Figure"! Hordak.de: Hordak.de - Die Masters of the Universe Community - Ihnen wird der Zutritt zu dieser Seite verwehrt. He-Man.de: Fans-Choice Figur 2013 - die Abstimmung des deutschen Finalisten! 2) We also learned today, Illumina's female cat is named Sleetah! 3) Finally, anyone wanting to take part in "Illumina Day!" please remember, it's NINE days away (same day as MattyCollector.com's order day). If you're still working on stuff, or haven't started yet, you have nine days left! Artistic ability does not matter. It's all in good fun!

It's FIVE DAYS away from Illumina Day and MattyCollector's sale day!
Even though it's 5 days early, I will post my main Illumina Day entry. I got this idea from T-shirts my mom had when I was young. They were bulldogs that had a saying and a picture of a bulldog mimicking the word. ex: Convertibull (with a cartoon dog having his mouth opened like a convertible), Bulldozer, etc. Here's my Illumina pic using that similar idea attached to pin-up art.: I'm not the greatest artist, but it's all for fun.

If there's a fan contest for making a character, it better damn well be Ram Man.

It's a little more complicated than that. I notice I didn't post the "History of Illumina" here, so here it is:
Illumina is a character meant to make her first appearance in MVCreations' MOTU Volume 3, Issue 4 comic. She was to have the story line in the bio that's on the image I posted. The variant cover of Issue 4 (showing Illumina and her Cat) was advertised in Volume 3, Issues 1, 2 and 3. Then, she never appeared in Issue 4 because Mattel instituted a "no new characters" policy and put a strict limit on the characters that could be used and the stories that could be told. This could have been because the 2002 toy line or show wasn't doing as well as they would have liked, but I'm not 100% on that. Other companies have put restrictions like this in comics and TV shows too. The Justice League Unlimited cartoon was not allowed to use Superman or Batman supporting characters and villains for a period of time, for example. Anyhow, since that time, Illumina has gotten sort of a cult following over the years. It began when she kept being advertised though, with MVC readers wondering who she was and how she would fit into the story. Here's the last advertisement of Illumina from Volume 3, Issue 3: Quote:

Anyhow, I have a couple of pieces of news today! 1) If you "like" the Illumina Fan Page on Facebook, you have a chance at winning free MOTUC figures! That's pretty cool of them. When they hit 500 fans (or "likes") they will be giving away a Vikor figure! The next giveaway is when they hit 750 "likes"! You can join here: Illumina | Facebook 2) You can vote for Illumina in the He-Man.org Fan Poll even if you are not a registered member of He-Man.org! The winner of the poll will be added as one of the 8 total selections on Mattel's Official 2013 Character poll. The winner of Mattel's poll gets made into a MOTUC figure! For this poll, instead of only voting one character, you rank them in the order you like them most. You can read about the character choices on the .org poll at the link I post below (with pictures if you click on their names). Just scroll down to the red, bolded "The 2011 He-Man Fan Poll Candidates:" When you're ready to vote, click the big, bolded "Click here to vote!" spot. If you would like an Illumina figure in MOTUC, be sure to drag her name to the first spot! He-Man.org > News > 2011 He-Man.org Official Figure Fan Choice! - Vote now for the Org entry to Mattel's fan poll!

Illumina Day, Mattycollector.com order day AND the final day of the He-Man.org fan character poll are tomorrow! It's going to be a very big day!
In honour of Illumina Day being tomorrow, and to hopefully get people pumped up, here's another poster I put together! I'm happy to report that people are already starting to post pieces of art on various other websites that are taking part in Illumina Day and I will do my best to make sure they all get seen. I hope everyone has a fantastic December 15th!

You know she looks like a cool character but I don't get it...Obsessed over a character that NEVER was in the comic series??? Is this what this line has come to? And if I read the rumor's right the owner of the .org (one day) MAY have a figure made of him in the MOTUC line?
Why? These spots are for figures that most people want not the small minority...EPIC fail! |

Why? These spots are for figures that most people want not the small minority...EPIC fail! Illumina finished second place in the German fan vote for MOTUC. Geldor from the 80's mini-comic won. Illumina WAS leading the He-Man.org fan vote (which is open to the entire world to vote on) before the results were hidden. The voting is now closed though and the winner will be revealed later today! So, I wouldn't say a really small amount of people want her when her fan-appeal is truly international! Also, I have no idea about the rumour that the owner of He-Man.org will be in MOTUC started. That's a bold NO. lol Toyguru (Scott Neitlich) who's the brand manager of MOTUC from Mattel has his head as the caucasian Palace Guard in MOTUC and his character "The Mighty Spector" from the 30th Anniversary MOTUC line is the same character...so he's technically in the line twice. The DCUC character "Nite-lick" is also named/created after him. That might be what you're thinking of? ------------------------------------------------------------------ Anyhow, it's officially Illumina Day!!! Post your art, customs, fan-fics, baked goods, painted faces, etc. if you haven't already! Hope everyone has a GREAT time today sharing and having fun! *Also, don't forget today is ORDER day at MattyCollector.com! Demo-Man, Battleground Evil-Lyn and the Wind Raider go up for sale at 9 a.m. PacificTime / Noon EasternTime

Thanks! people don't see that this line there are so many spots to be taken and figures like this or some no name guy in yellow from a tug-of-war panel in the mini comics is asinine. More deserving characters need to be made and are wanted by more people than a small handful...sorry

I know what you're saying, Tranzor, and I don't disagree. But personally, the main reason I've bought into this line is to finally bring the mini comics I loved so much as a child to life. I don't really care much about the same characters I've bought from previous lines. I guess everybody is looking for something a little different.

I see this alot in lines where people get fixated on a character that only 1% of the collector's want and in a line with limited slots I don't want characters like "Illumina" Perfect example look at what fanboy geeks got Hasbro to make into a figure: What the hell??? 2 Seconds of screen time get's you a figure? WOW! but Star Wars can do that because they have a bigger fan base... Last edited by Tranzor Z; 12-15-2011 at 04:46 PM.. |

Illumina came in 2nd place in the German Fan Vote Poll (26 votes behind 1st place, Geldor) and Illumina came in 1st place in the He-Man.org Fan Vote Poll that was open to everyone! Second place went to Huntara from the She-Ra: Princess of Power Cartoon (trailing by 209 points).
Geldor and Illumina will face off against each other and SIX other characters chosen by Mattel in the 2013 Subscriber Fan Vote, taking place mid 2012. Also, here's a link to a compilation of ALL the Illumina Day submissions I have come across. If I missed any, please let me know! Illumina in MOTUC - Illumina Day Submissions!
