Seen this.. I myself don't have her in my collection, but I didn't think she had a black t-shirt with a spidey logo? or is this a know variant?

I had it in my head that there was going to be a white-shirted Mary Jane variant, but I haven't been able to find anything about it. I must have been thinking of Luke Cage.

If I remember correctly the early concept images originally had Mary Jane in a plain black t-shirt.

The first displays of her had her in blue jeans and short-sleeves. The production result was khakis and no-sleeves.

Another thing is that the hair gets glued on differently on them.

If it were a variant, it probably wouldn't show the variant on the package. The normal version is what is displayed on the packaging.

That is definately different from the Mary Jane Watson that is in my collection. Face doesn't look right in the pic though, so perhaps a custom figure? Interested in hearing if this is an official variation by Hasbro of a piece of fan work. Variants I still have yet to see are Ronin (Black Costume), Luke Cage (White Tee/Black Beenie) or Black Widow (Yelena Belova/Blond Hair). Would love to see variant comparison pics of the supposed matte vs. glossy Red Hulk & Electro figures as I have yet to find or see such a variation on line (Ebay/forum classifieds) or in person. Finally, we have several new variations to search for as the year continues: Cable, Dr. Strange, Darkhawk & Masterworks Sentinal. I personally would really like to see an early Lizard/Dr. Curt Connors figure with interchangeable Lizard arm & head as an exclusive at Comic Con or Toy Fair when they decide to release a standard version of a full on Lizard figure in wide distribution. I also wish Hasbro would change the cardbacks of variation figs showing the pics of any additional newly released variant figs rather than the original cardback. It is disgusting on Ebay with the scalpers high prices. Why are people asing for, and more importantly, paying $300 for the mail-in Archangel fig, when you can grab it for $60?! Outright insanity IMHO. I pretty much use Ebay just to keep up when the variants start hitting the stores and then I go hunting myself. I would never pay anything higher than $14.00 for a figure variation of standard 3 3/4" size, and that is only if I could absolutely not find it on my own.

The pic on Marvelous is of the regular release. It's the same as the official pics we got from Hasbro ourselves back in May of 2010.

On a side note, welcome to the Toyark! A bit of advice: try breaking your posts up into paragraphs. Makes it easier to read than a sheer wall of text. Just a suggestion.

Luke Cage and Black Widow have not been released yet, but Black Ronin is available. If you look hard enough on ebay under a search for "Marvel Ronin" you should be able to spot the difference. As far as the Red Hulk/ Electro glossy/matte variant, yeah..those are a pain in the @ss. Heres a supurb link to the Red Hulk comparison: http://www.toyark.com/news/marvel-to...nt-found-1342/ As far as Electro, it was trial and error, I do have both, but the only gloss is on the abs and a bit of upper body, and I do apologize that my camera probably can't pick up the difference. And hey, bottom line is unless you get lucky spotting a variant at TRU or otherwise, you're probably going to have to dish out more than you'd like. Do sellers overprice? Absolutely. But supply and demand, my friend! |
