I think any child of the 80s like myself that grew up with Star Wars and GI Joe has a place in their heart for 3.75" figures. Naturally, I'm a fan of Marvel Universe/XMOW. That being said, I cannot deny it.
The MU Hulk is one of the worst incarnations of the character I've ever seen. I could sit and and complain, but we've ALL done that, and it would take up many pages. Anyway, the first step being throwing that MU Hulk in my parts bin. The second step was finding a suitable replacement, which was actually very easy. I had 4 rules in making my Hulk custom. 1. Size. 6" Marvel Legends Hulks are just TOO big. To me, personally, I like Hulk to be bigger than a person could ever be. He's been drawn so many sizes that there's not really one, standard size. We have the TV show really big human size all the way to artists that draw him as big as a house. In the first Hulk movie, I thought he was too big, but in the reboot second film, I thought they had it perfect. Big enough to pick up cars and punch tanks, but not as big as my apartment. 2. He has to look somewhat primal and REALLY pissed off. I don't need him to look like any specific era of Hulk, or look like a caveman or have any particular haircut. 3. Purple torn up pants. 4.Good articulation. I don't need 32 poa. Just enough to get him in any typical Hulk poses I want. So...with those four rules in play...I bring you my version of MU HULK complete with themed sequential action shots... Group...good size comparison. Not too big...not too small: ONE Hulk: TWO Hulks: ....THREE Hulks?!? !!!!! Versus WOLVERINE: 1 2 3 4!!!! 1... 2!!! Hulk on Hulk violence: Hulk strongest one there is!!! So, yes, he's a 5" scale movie 2 Hulk simply repainted. It's crazy how much difference a paint job can make! I saw him in the package and saw potential, but he was this drab military green with no shading, and one of his eyes were painted halfway down his cheek all melty-lookin'. They had three left on discount, and they all had melty-eye. So, I brought him home and gave him several coats of paint including 4 kinds of green, two of which I mixed myself.

I use this Hulk as my MU default Hulk but I haven't repainted him like you have. Looks great!

Nice work, SP!
I think the scale works really well, especially in those picks with Wolverine. It's almost like seeing Logan's debut all over again (aside for the costume, natch).

Coincidentally enough, this Hulk is in scale with 3-3/4" figures, that's one of the reasons it came with DTC G.I. Joe repaints.
I thought the movie Hulk figures were alright, could have been better, but I've definitely thought of getting some instead of using the disappointing, Marvel Universe Hulk. Also, movie Hulk figures are on clearance now. |

Movie Hulk was the way I went too. Though I prefer his movie colors, and torn blue jeans. The purple pants was always overkill to me. But yeah, he and ironmonger were both designed with 3.75'' in mind. That's why Stane's head is so tiny too. Others that work well are the Toy Biz Hulk line Wendigo (animated series hulk, not legends), the maestro from that same series, Toy Biz Hulk 2099(same wave as maestro), IronMan 90s TAS Titanium Man (probably dark Aegis too if he was ever made =/), IronMan Movie Mk I, Toy Biz Generation X Phalanx, Toy Biz X-Men TAS Hodge Phalanx, Toy Biz X-Men TAS Mojo, Toy Biz X-Force Nimrod, Toy Biz X-Men TAS Apocalypse II(the one with interchangeable arms, or BAF for giant apocalypse), Hasbro SpiderMan 3's walmart premium Venom, and Spiderman's more recent Venompion. The scales blend beautifully for perfection. There are probably more too, but those are the ones I have in my collection that I can vouch for. All except Maestro can be found relatively cheap. Maestro himself, his Trophy belt gives away his scale preference, which is also why he's more costly, but worth every penny. And personally, I also favor Toy Biz's Onslaught figure pre-legends.
Great touch ups though to make him more classic for your taste. Last edited by Snowflakian; 06-17-2009 at 03:49 PM.. |

On the subject of scale, I've been considering picking up some Marvel Showdown figures to add to my Universe collection. Are they compatible as far as scale? Any ones to avoid or any favorites to look out for? Anyone with any suggestions or answers PM me if you get a chance and let me know. Thanks.
