Some really nice shots Joe. If I pick this one up I'm also leaning in favor of using the sack head as they did make the hair too thick. I wonder if they tried making the strands thinner but QC wouldn't have held up.

Overall I love the figure and the upgrades over the original release, such as the added articulation and casting the skin in sweaty, grimy flesh-colored plastic. Everything looks much better with the improved and more detailed paint work and the original sculpt from 2009 still holds up. No worries on the single-jointed arms and legs, either, because as Joe said it matches the previous NECA Jasons.
And yeah, this figure looks amazing with the bag head. I was never a huge fan of the original bag head Jason, but I accepted it because...well, it's Jason. But this version's bag head looks SO much more intimidating and creepy so I actually ended up picking up two figures so I could display him both ways. That said...yeah, that hair. I don't mind how the strands look at all, honestly. It's how they attached them to the head that looks really terrible. On the original release the strands were actually attached to the straps of the hockey mask, but here they altered the head sculpt and half-assedly plugged the strands directly into the head. They had the right idea (that the hair should be attached to the head), but how they went about implementing it was really, really embarrassingly lazy, and it shows. I mean, it totally looks like complete garbage. But at least the straps from the hockey mask cover it up, so I guess it's not a HUGE deal. Last edited by Dolemite; 05-13-2019 at 06:51 PM.. |

Also, I really want to bitch...I'm SO SICK of constantly getting NECA figures where one leg is longer than the other. I had to exchange this figure twice until I had ones where they could stand upright normally. I think NECA needs to get their factory to address this issue, as it happens all the time.

As I suspected the blonde hair would be the weakest point of the figure. Aside from how the hair was attached to the mask original release, I think the hair and headsculpt was handled a lot better than this release. It’s a good thing the sac head sits better on this release as it’s most likely how I’ll be displaying mine when I pick it up someday.
A crossbow and a bear trap also would’ve been nice to see, but overall I think NECA made a good update to the original. Quote:

It stinks that it’s such a commonly occurring problem, but this method should at least save you the trouble of finding a replacement figure. |

I had that issue with a few of my NECA figures and what I’ve found is that the leg isn’t actually longer, but it’s that its not completely inserted into the hip joint. Heat up the upper leg with a hairdryer, carefully pop the leg from the hip joint, reapply heat to the upper leg and then reinsert the affected leg. After that you should be fine.

Just curious...since I'm sure you have the original Reboot Jason...do you know if the head from that figure would fit onto this new one without making any significant mods? I was thinking about doing that personally when my Ultimate arrives, since the older version has the hair sculpted to the mask as you were saying, and I'm not a huge fan of it myself... |

I had the same problem with my Pennywise I just opened. I love Neca but it's so frustrating for the price you pay and you get a leg bigger then the other.

Trivial Psychic- The peg hole is completely different on the original release. The neck peg on the original figure is twice as thick and, correspondingly, the neck hole in the head is twice as wide. It might be possible to mod the head to fit on the new figure, but like I said above, the skin doesn't even remotely match the new Ultimate figure.
BTW, I'm selling my original NECA reboot Jason on ebay now that I have the Ultimate! It's complete and I accept best offers! |

Not a fan of this look for Jason, and didn't care much for the remake in general. However, the figure itself (and of course the pictures) look great. Definitely better with the sack head versus the hockey mask.

Some interesting things said about some of their horror licenses on Neca's twitter. Nightmare on Elm Street is set to expire and its future is up in the air. I was kind of hoping for an FvJ Freddy with the demon head, but it looks like that's off the table.
Also, there are hints that the Friday the 13th lawsuit may have an impact on future Jasons. They didn't have a problem with the stuff already in production, but seem uncertain of upcoming figures. I kind of get the impression that they are going to push forward carefully, but are keeping an eye out for any cease and desist orders. It does explain why they are releasing 3 Jasons (well, two Jasons and a Roy) in such short succession. Hopefully, we can get Part 8 before the you know what hits the fan. Lastly, someone asked if Neca was going to do an Ultimate Loomis and Laurie. They replied in a vague way about rights and how the figures don't fit the Ultimate format. I thought it was interesting because he didn't say "No" but dismissed the Ultimate format specifically. I could see Loomis and/or Laurie getting a regular release. I understand why they wouldn't want to reveal it now, just before the 2018 Laurie release. A lot of people who would pick it up might pass for a young Laurie. |
