Since you brought it up there's one aspect of the Assembly Cut I find stupid that the theatrical does better, the alien's host. Alien 3 introduces the idea that aliens gain attributes of their host and the dog alien shows much of this. It is sleeker, has digitigrade legs, and is faster than previous versions and this all makes sense given its host is a dog, an animal that is biologically much more suited for killing than humans. The Assembly Cut changes the host to be an ox which no longer makes as much sense for producing such a slim and quick alien. Finally the audience will care more about a dog dying than a bull, it automatically sets up the creature in Alien 3 to be evil when it kills a dog as victim number one.

I really like that aspect of the creature and feel like it's been really severely underutilized in the films. (Though Kenner had the right idea and gave us toys of all the cool hybrids) Think of how awesome (though expensive) it would be to have an actual alien movie set on an integalactic zoo or wildlife preserve and all the possibilities therein.

Thanks to the awesome Kenner toys I've always wanted to see a Xenomorph outbreak take place in a zoo.

Man, the Weyland Yutani Commando is the breakout star of this wave. Easily the best figure, and the figure everyone seems to be buying (he's much harder to find at retail than the other two). The detail and articulation are superb, and the overall design is just so out there...it's got this bizarre cobbled-together look that just ends up looking so imposing and unique, and I love the black pulse rifle.
I picked up two Commandos myself, one with the visor open, one with it closed. I always thought thought these guys looked cool in the 4 seconds of screen time they got in Alien 3, glad to see NECA's crazy enough to make a figure of them and that it appears to have paid off in terms of sales. BTW, the eyes on my Commandos are pretty much perfect, although I had to dig through a few to find them. Some of them were looking way up. Last edited by Dolemite; 07-19-2016 at 08:32 AM.. |

Man, the Dog Alien is like ten times creepier when standing upright. That's getting into Slenderman territory.

If you've been looking for even a slight variation on the dog you need to see it out of the packaging. In store, most people won't be able to distinguish between the two versions I reckon!
I too got a couple of commandos. I need to actually see how many brown dogs I've got and whether to sell one or two I've got that many from buying waves and collections. We see the Kenner line in the next few days don't we, or have I got that wrong?

What's the deal with the alternate colored Dog Alien, exactly? Best I can figure is that he's supposed to represent the scene where it was covered in molten lead right before it exploded, but I'd think it'd be a little more metallic in appearance if that's the intended effect. It's just strange that it's almost the same paint scheme with just a little bit of added silver coloring.

Personally I never liked the design of the Weyland Yutani Commando, I always thought it just looks like someone cut-up a Hockey Goalie's uniform. I guess they were going for that "prison riot gears" look. However, I do give props to NECA for making such a distinctive character with such a short screen time, and doing it so well.

Mainly just a variant for variants sake. They have a molten lead version they wanted to introduce as a chase figure. When Randy asked about it, fans were overwhelmingly against the idea of a chase. Said he couldn't get a full production run out of the figure, so it was either chase or probably nothing for the full molten lead version.

Doesn't really bother me, as in hand, the lack of clear coat is really noticeable. Plus, makes it easy to troop build them, which a lot of Alien collectors have been doing.

Why would you army build an alien that was unique? Having one might be cool for variation in a giant alien hive display, but it just seems odd to have a bunch of these guys.

Because, like me, I love to do grand battle set ups with the Aliens during photo shoots. I don't like their being just 1 or 2 types of Aliens. The more variety I can get, the better. Makes the images and display more interesting.

...looks like your Ripley got a lazy eye. I was afraid mine would have some problem with the painting specially the eyes and/or hairline, but happy to say she looks perfect.
The WY Commandos are excellent! Bought three but since there are five of them in the movie, might chase a couple more later on, if they don't get too expensive or hard to find. I like how the not-really-gray Dog Alien looks in the pics. Call me crazy but with that slight color variation he seems more accurate to the actual suit/puppet. I didn't notice how prominent the purpleish dome was on the original release and I wasn't happy with the yellow teeth. Might buy one from a friend who ordered the whole series

The teeth should have been closer to white but it's still a gorgeous figure.
