i feel this toy line needs an appreciation thread like so many of the other cool lines of figures on here. so let me start with my collection and i'd like to add some pics of my newest addition to my set so far !!
fresh from the Neca, ordered on ebay literally a day or 2 ago and it made it here today !! Paint and articulation are excellent. well thats normal for Neca Predators at least the ones i've gotten so far. Looks cool with the helmet also, i realize he'sa repaint of Nightstorm. i'm still partial to this guy though considering i had the original as you can see in the the here. Here's all of my bad boys together on the shelf, i realize it's a bit empty still working on my set. sorry about the dust. it'll get cleaned when i end up relocating this shelf soon to my man cave after the girlfriend moves in lol everyone enjoy the pics, and let's see some more Preds !!! |

Thanks for posting pictures of Scavage, it makes it easier for me to compare him to Nightstorm. I'll definitely be passing Scavage unless I find him in store and am swayed.
I started getting NECA Predators with series 9 and have been a big fan ever since. Series 10 is my favorite so far. I've got Renegade and Cracked Tusk ordered with free shipping so I'm just waiting for those two to come in next week. Water emergence under black light: Nightstorm and Greyback (v2): Viper:

Finally...it's about time we Predator fans made our own thread...
I've been collecting Yauntja's since the original Kenner and Mcfarlane Movie Maniacs days, and have been collecting NECA's Predators in particular since the AVP:R series. I have nearly all of NECA's Preds (there is an omission or two, such as when NECA was pairing up the City Hunter in Predators two pack, it made it easy for me to avoid picking up the same figure when it was later released seperately...) and this has been the one line that I just can't seem to quit. I don't have a picture of my predator collection just yet (it would be kinda un-exciting My favorite Predator thus far though, isn't one from NECA though. It's easily the Wolf Predator from MonsterArts. This is the standard version, not the heavy arms version that came afterwards, but the detail and poseability of this guy is amazing, and well worth the extra dough if you're considering picking him up. While he is not to scale with NECA's Predator line... He does fit in perfectly with these guys, making it easy to come up with a sequel to "Dead End." Anyways...that's my two cents for now Donmeca, congrats on your newest yauntja and growing collection, and En Sabah, you and I go back a little ways with these guys...lol. So glad this thread exists, so let's shoot the shit and talk some Predators! |

I met a guy at my flea market who hated the SH Wolf Predator. It's not my cup o' tea (mainly because of its price and size) but this guy seriously just apparently couldn't find anything to like about it besides the accessories. Eh, whatever.
I wonder whether a NECA Predator or the SH one would fit in scale better for the upcoming Mortal Kombat X toys from Mezco.

I still have all of them in a box at my house lol. i would love to get my hands on a Big Red Predator but the price for that one is just insane on Ebay. As for Scavage, he took a tumble or two last night off the shelf. i'll have to mess with him today. when he fell off last night, he startled my pitbull and i definitely don't want him picking up scavage off the floor and destroying him. I have to use a base for Nightstorm, the design of the super-Predator just has smaller feet but they keep the big torso and head so it is really tricky to get it balanced. I just plugged Nightstorm onto a NECA display stand and he hasn't fallen once since, it also makes him just a tad taller than the rest of my Predator figures which works out nice. I was surprised though since my Nightstorm fell like three or four times but never broke. This isn't totally monumental, a four foot-ish drop onto a carpet floor, but he didn't break at all. Which I find amusing since some people complain incessantly about how fragile and poorly made NECA figures are.

Like for this one I searched and found a volcanic background image on my computer and then I put the figure in front of it, which you can see the monitor's light kind of going through the translucent plastic. Though like I said you could probably print/order a backdrop for permanent display.

I wonder whether a NECA Predator or the SH one would fit in scale beFtter for the upcoming Mortal Kombat X toys from Mezco. A: upset about the price and are "sour graping" it. B: hate the AVP movies so therefore bag on the Predator choice being The Wolf, or... C: they just don't understand Japanese toys, the materials they use, and some of the concepts and designs they implement (such as Revoltech-style joints, and limbs and parts that easily disassemble.) The only issue I've ever had with my Wolf is that it's tough to get the bio-masked head on at times due to the top of the head being really spikey (leading it to be physically painful to swap out) and the mandibles fitting a little loose one the open mouth set (my closed set fits fine.) His shoulder armor plate will come off on occasion when posing, but again, it's the nature of nearly all Japanese toys to have parts fall off like that, and they plug back in easily and stay put once I'm done posing the figure, so it's never an issue. It's a shame people hate, but it's their right, and in my eyes...their loss. On the scale question, As we all know, since all 6 inch scales are done differently, if it's closer to Marvel Legends six inch scale, I'd say the SH Monster Arts one would fit better to scale. If it's done in a 6" scale closer to SOTA Toys Street Fighter Line, then I would say the Neca predator would be better, as the Neca Pred stands in near perfect scale next to some of the larger characters in that line (namely Sagat and T.Hawk, who both are over 7 feet tall in the game.) My apologies for not having a Sagat figure out of the package that I could easily access...but at least you can make the comparison here pretty good. Sagat stands about 7'4" in the game, so I'd say it's about right. And while I'm at it...MKX has me drooling right now. I BADLY wanted Jason Voorhees in the last one, especially after Freddy showed up, and now that he and the Predator are showing up...I'm sold. I hope that they eventually do throw Freddy back in there as future DLC, as he was a pretty well thought out character, and a nice breath of fresh air in the midsts of all those ninjas. Quote:

Yeah the AVP movies are bad (sometimes I watch them as a guilty pleasure) but Wolf is still an awesome predator anyway. I also always liked Celtic's look and attitude as the headstrong leader of the three. Celtic may have died early in the movie, but he outlasted that Chopper bitch. Sorry fans of Chopper but you chose the wrong predator to back. It always weirded me out how light-skinned Sagat is. I'm Thai and I'm white but one of my parents is white, Sagat (I thought) is pure Thai so he should have that standard SouthEast Asian bronzing. It's not a big deal but I have to support my people, Sagat is my favorite SF character. I hope Freddy ends up in MKX, but it damn well better be the Englund version and only have the one glove.

Action Figure Displays used to make awesome diorama backdrops for MOTUC, G.I.Joe, and a few generic displays (such as jungle or desert backdrops) but unfortunately the company folded not too long ago. If you don't mind printing up some of your own though, I highly recommend checking out [CG Textures] - Textures for 3D, graphic design and Photoshop!. They have thousands of large, high quality images that could very easily be printed onto poster or photo paper. as for background images, i've been trying to find something for my shelves and figured the best thing for it would be a printed out image for which ever line of figures i have. just time is always a problem lol. This damn Scavage took another 2 tumbles on me again this time on hard floor... luckily nothing broke. i just moved my ikea shelf to my "man cave " room lol i now have him on the shelf with the others but with a large old pillow on the ground just in case him or anything else decide to fall because everything was moved just now. Scavage looks good with the others !! |

My only gripe with the SH Wolf, price aside, is he looks a bit too beefy for the character. Wolf was one of the thinnest Predators on film. This doesn't change the toy being good on its own, sometimes change can be nice. Case in point: the upcoming NECA AVP preds are much thinner than their tank-like movie appearances and they look a lot better for it.
It's not a big deal but I have to support my people, Sagat is my favorite SF character. I hope Freddy ends up in MKX, but it damn well better be the Englund version and only have the one glove. I'm split on the AVP movies themselves. I loathed the first one with a fiery passion (mostly due to the awful predator re-designs, and the movie's confusing attempts to tie it into the cannon storyline,) but I loved the director's cut of AVP:R. It seemed as if the directors were really trying their best to give us a bit of fan service, and actually had the balls to go through with things we had never seen in the franchises before but had always assumed (such as children being impregnated and eventually killed by the chestbursters they were hosting.) To those that were ticked off and whining about the crappy human characters and their development...lighten up...seriously. AVP:R is essentially an American kaiju movie, so those characters are there simply to be pushed through the meat grinder. What were you expecting, an Oscar worthy screenplay? I really liked the Wolf character, because in him, we got to see a little bit more of the personalities of the Predator. I love how we get to see his agitation when he answers the distress call, and how he mourns over his fallen hunter-brothers in the ship. Him and the Falconer Predator are probably my favorite Predators seen on-screen, unless you count the Boar Predator (one of the Lost Predators from P2) I really love that Predator's look. I'm hoping that once NECA starts their AVP series of figures, that we might get some from the games...the XB360 or PS3 ones in particular. I really liked some of the designs in that game featured in the multiplayer, Stalker, Spartan, and Lord Predator in particular. Would love to get a "Specimen 6" Alien as well. If it makes you feel any better, Sagat's student-turned-rival Adon is also Thai, and whiter than sin. M.Bison was also supposed to be Thai in SF2, with his new body after being destroyed by Akuma possibly being Taiwanese, yet Capcom also gave this guy a white wash both times. Capcom is infuriating like that. They either white wash their characters, or they stereotype them to the point where they become almost offensive (DeeJay and T.Hawk being perfect examples.) I didn't mind Freddy in the new one, nor did I mind the addition of the second glove. The character model borrowed elements of the original and reboot Freddy and mashed them pretty good together, while in my eyes, the second glove was Freddy simply evening out the playing field against a group of guys armed to the teeth with spears, laser nets and bombs, and acid spit. |

AVP:R director's cut was bloody fun. I still don't really like how the predalien in it came out, looking at the full suit is a joke. The "abomination" from AVP 2010 (xbox360/ps3/pc) was a much better looking creature for me.

SH has only made the one predator so far, Wolf from AVP:R. It is on the more expensive end considering size and what not. It's about $45 plus shipping at BBTS, so it is standard Japanese-toy price. I wouldn't put it in with NECA or McFarlane Predator stuff unless you're looking for one of your predators to have a teenage son who he's bringing on the hunt with him, but for other lines it can pass alright like Trivial was saying. The only other Japanese toy company that is making a predator that I know of is Square Enix will be making a Jungle Hunter, and that one is apparently gonna be 11" tall but also looks ugly and strange, rather fugly if you will.

Definitely keep an eye on it. Nightstorm stood for a week without falter and then one night when I get home he's on the floor. That's when I was all "F*** it, I'm getting bases!" The pillows sound like a nice precaution but maybe also push Scavage as far back from the edge as he can go (or whatever you feel is enough), this way if he does fall he might not completely leave the shelf.

The stands are the NECA "figure display stands" pack of 10. I ordered mine from BBTS, but places like TRU actually carry them in store and Gamestop has them online, there's also a bundle option at NECA's ebay store. It's $10 for the 10 bases which is okay I guess, the main point is I know they work for the Predator figures (and pretty much anything NECA made that has a peg hole in the bottom of the foot).

Yeah, they're just clear with one peg and they do have "NECA Made in China" molded on an area of the edge, but it's very small considering surface area and isn't that noticeable. 10 stands for $10 is okay I reckon, they were made by NECA for their own toys so I got a pack and they've come in handy so far. I only got the one pack but I only have one left in it so I may end up getting more if I need 'em. They are really only for 7" scale figures though as I tried one out once for a 6" Hasbro figure just to see if they could and that didn't work.
