It’s looking like the Martin Brody figure has been cancelled due to licensing issues. Quint is supposed to be released in January now. I’m not sure what the point is though. I was hoping they could use positive sales of Brody and Quint to convince Dreyfuss to negotiate a license for Hooper. But, with no Brody, that seems even more unrealistic now.

Man this one really bums me out. How the hell does NECA put something up for preorder that isn't fully locked in? I mean was the estate going to sue them or something? Did they renege on the deal? Just seems like bullshit. I cancelled Quint, maybe if I see him in store I'll bite, but its just crap.
One thing is that the actor or estate typically get final say on the product. Even after an initial agreement is reached, the estate will need to approve final product. If they aren't happy with how it looks, what is included, or just decide they don't want it released after seeing it, they can kill the deal. Another area you can run into issues is with competing parties claiming they hold the rights. Could be different members of the family, could be a company. One party threatens to sue both the licensor and the licensee unless product is pulled or they are cut into the licensing deal. And finally, it could come down to another manufacturer claiming they have the rights to produce Roy Schieder's likeness related to Jaws merchandise. Basically, all stuff that can pop up once a product has been announced.

There's so many areas this can go awry when it comes to figures with individual likeness deals.

The problem with separate likeness rights deals, is they're different for every instance. It's rare that any 2 deals are identical, and a lot of actors are very protective of how they are portrayed in merchandising. Then you have those that will overvalue their likeness, making a deal near impossible.

Damn, well that killed my interest in this line. What a shame. I'll still wait to see how Quint turns out, but man that sucks. Granted I wish these weren't retro cloth style.

I'm guessing they're going to do a full line of Toony Terrors Jaws figures. Won't need likenesses for those since they'll be cartoon style. Plus you'll be able to do Hooper, Quint, Brody, Bruce the shark, and multiple variations of each. I'll be ok with that for now, as I dig the Toony Terrors stuff, not so much the non-horror items right now.

I'll probably pick this up if I see it in store, slight downgrade from the prototype but that's to be expected. Those were painted almost like 1/6 scale quality.
This does look overall like one of the best mego style figures they've done as far as clothing fit. |

Good point man. They definitely have increased quality in that area. Also the what I'm guessing is 3D print molding the actors likenesses', is way better too.

Jaws - New Figure Teaser by NECA - The Toyark - News
Look like they enticed Richard Dreyfuss to sign on.

It will always feel incomplete without Brody though. I finally saw Quint at Target this week and decided to pass on him since there's no Brody to pair up with him.

I had always heard Dreyfus was impossible to get, so this is really exciting. I really hope we get Brody eventually but I think they'll do a good job on Hooper. We got the crushed cup accessory lol.
