Now the question is, Super Nintendo or Sega Genesis box art?

Well I won't be getting the Robocop since I already have the NES version, but this is a cool way to get it if you missed out the first time.
News: just saw on NECA's twitter that there might also be a copper T-800, a blue-ish T-800, and a terminator-dog. Possibly just display only customs for the booth, but possibly not.

I'm pretty sure this'll be a T-800 two pack, with the blue and copper figures seen in the SDCC diorama. Maybe they might include the Terminator-dog thing as a bonus piece, but I wouldn't jump to that conclusion yet. As of now, I'm sticking with the blue and copper T-800s.

Hopefully these endoskeletons have been altered slightly for better durability, as the original ones that came out with the T2 line were pretty fragile. I recall it being a bit difficult to seat the weapons in their hands properly, as the fingers were fairly delicate and were prone to breaking off at the joint. The sliding pistons, particularly on the legs, while fairly neat and a nice bit of fan service detail, but they were also a major hinderence as those parts were often the first to break on those figures. They greatly restricted the articulation as well.

I hope NECA has upgraded these, they've evolved greatly over the past few years as a company. It would be a shame if these came out with their old QC issues, I only started buying from them last year but I have had almost zero issues so far.

Robocop vs Terminator Packaging Design Preview - The Toyark - News

Guess the license was a bit too tricky to actually call it "Robocop vs Terminator".

Ugh. It might have been difficult to get the license to produce the original box art, but honestly, that was the only thing this series of releases had going for me. Those window boxes are horrible looking. There were NES and Genesis games for both Terminator and Robocop, I would have rather they released this wave with their respective box covers (especially if they would have used the incredible Sega CD version of Terminator for a reference...)instead of this rather generic look for the packaging.

Hopefully NECA will give the NES treatment to the Aliens and Gremlins line. Both had pretty decent NES games, and a cell shaded dog alien would be killer!

Well doing a separate figure for Robocop isn't necessary since we already have the NES figure, I suppose we could see one later for Terminator, posiibly. I think it may be that the NES window with a cover flap (like the NES Robocop, Predator, etc.) costs a little more than doing this regular window box. Since this will be a series of figures, not just one-off special limited production figures, they may have chosen to use the slightly cheaper packaging. That being said, I think this packaging also makes it easier to identify what toy you're buying. With the NES figures it's just look at the box/movie poster and know that there's only one figure it could be, If they used the Robocop Vs Terminator box design for all figures with the same flap-window front then you'd only have the back of the bow to identify which figure is inside. I'm not totally defending this packaging design, but I can see why they may have chosen to use this instead.
Also I agree, Alien 3 is the first (and only I think) Alien game on the NES so I definitely think a blue cel-shaded dog-alien would be pretty bad-ass.

Good points ESN, since most of the video game line is shrink wrapped, I can imagine how it could cause confusion. The other alternative would have been to go with the separate game entries, but since they wanted to capitalize on the Vs. game, and with Robo already having one, I can understand the decision. I do like the red border on the side of the packaging however, emulating the box style the Sega Genesis had near the end of it's console life cycle.

Since Neca is now branching into 16 bit titles, the could also do the decent Alien3 titles on snes or Genesis, or even Alien Trilogy on PSX or Saturn. Alien 3 was the only title though released on NES though (and it was awful...), so that cell shaded dog and facehugger is top on my list of wants! Make it happen Neca!

If they really wanted to embrace a variety of games, they could do the Alien vs Predator SNES or Arcade game, Aliens Arcade Game, ET Atari 2600 game, Gremlins 2 NES game, etc. But at some point, I hope they start acquiring licenses specifically for some classic games, or doing a work around (like they did with Batman).

"Unlike the previous figures in their video game line, these will come packaging in classic window boxes, as opposed to packaging mimicking video game box."

that kinda sucks some of the fun out of it, but they still look good.

They're still somewhat close to the design of the SNES and Genesis boxes. I like thatt hey went with the close up steel box design element as well as a similar logo treatment to the game packaging. But being pure window boxes, for me, puts them outside the NECA Classic Video Game Series.

Also, I'm guessing a licensing issue is preventing them from putting "Robocop vs Terminator" on the packaging. It's a nice nod to have "Robocop" and "Versus The Terminator" on the individual toys, so I appreciate the effort to nod and wink as much as they are legally allowed to.

agree on all points. I'm interested, but they now seem like something different than the rest of the "video game" line up.

I bet dollars to donuts it's a matter of demanding logo be a certain size and each be credited at the same size- a common thing with Crossover stuff. There can't be 'favoritism'. They're getting around that by making them 'not crossover' doing the split-level logo trick here.
