Man, I wish I had the room for that thing. It's amazing.
Excellent galley as usual, Mr. Joe. I was looking forward to seeing what you'd do with this dio and I wasn't disappointed. |

The photo with all of the random figures lined up together reminds me of why I love toys.

Thanks! It’s a lot of fun using random things here and there, and breaking out figures I haven’t shot in ages.

Every time I thought I had enough figures, I had to go back and grab more. Looking at it, I probably could have popped a few more in there.

The TMNT version looks like it has transparent plastic windows, but the new one looks like its just empty spaces? or is it just really clear plastic? The paint job on the TMNT ver is about 100x better in that comparison pic too. Heh.

The both have windows, however, I chose not to install them on the new dio (and removed them from the TMNT one). I mentioned it a bit in the review. The acrylic attracts dust like crazy. On the initial TMNT shoot, I had to wipe them down between each shot, and it was still dusty. I just decided to not use them for my own sanity.

Honestly,I may remove my windows as well. The dust is annoying on my turtles set,my second version is in my pile of loot. Between these 2 street scenes and the giant ghostbusters firehouse a massive city-scape photo shoot needs to happen soon.

It’s funny... I’ve wanted something like this for Spider-Man and Batman toys since I was a little kid. It looks fantastic, but the more I look at it, the more I talk myself out of it. It’s so big, I really don’t know where to keep it if I got it.
That being said, I’m super excited to see all the pics people will be posting using this. It’s a fabulous addition to any collection. Sadly, I’ll have to stick to my paintings for a background.

It requires 15 figures to complete and two of them are extremely rare already GB2 Egon from wave 7 and RGB Egon from wave 9. At retail these are $25 each so you are looking at $375 for the completed backdrop if you got them all at retail, but I can't find Egon wave 7 for under $100... That being said some of these can be found for under $20 so some are cheaper now, but that wave 7 Egon is making me want to give up on trying to complete the Firehouse. I have the NECA Street Dio preordered and I already have the space for it next to the TMNT one reserved. I have mine on top of my Detolfs, if a figure falls they have a long drop, but it fits so well there in my collection. My TMNT dio has the same issues as Joe mentioned with the pegs not tight enough to hold the cardboard to the back. I have enough pegs that it isn't going anywhere, but a few places the cardboard is bowing out and I can't get the peg to make it stay in place. |

I am really tempted to buy this! Can somebody tell me what the back is like? I mean, is it a completely hollow shell? Does the lowest level, the sidewalk, extend to the back so it has a "floor" all along the bottom? Just curious!

With the backdrop attached, the back is flat. If you remove the backdrop, then the entire back is open. The bottom level extends all the way to the back, as it acts as a base. There is also enough floor space on the middle tier to stand figures behind the windows. I'll snap a photo after work to show what it looks like.

Thank you so much for doing it, but the photo isn't showing up for me! Can anybody else see it?
[EDIT] Aaaaaaaand, now it shows up magically. Thanks! That's what I needed to know. Nobody seems to have a photo of the back. I'm placing my order now! |

Might as well pretend it doesn't exist....

I'm tempted. My only concern is that I don't think I want to keep it set up all the time. Is it fairly easy to take apart?

Yeah, you can break it down in just a few minutes. Remove each of the floors/roofs, remove the side walls and you have a bunch of mostly flat pieces.

Thanks for the info. I'm starting to dabble into toy photography and I really want to add some dios to my shoots. Unfortunately, my space is limited so any dio I use has to be something that can be broken down easily and stored flat. Besides this and stuff from Extreme Sets, is there anything else out there that may suit my needs?

Once you know where everything goes, it can be put up and taken down in about 15 minutes. HOWEVER, the cardboard backing which adds stability as well as the skylines are very easily chipped. Just moving mine for my YouTube review caused several chips in the print. I dabbed a little acrylic paint on them to mask it, but for the $$$ this costs, a warning would have been nice.
