For some reason, the brown version of Clayface reminds me of the Golgothan from Dogma.

I am really late to the party. I was just going to post this. I am pretty excited for the Clayface pack because I stupidly didn't buy him the last time. I won't repeat that mistake. Now if they will rerelease Two Face, I'll be set.

Same here. I like that they're releasing some of the original DCSH figs as 2 packs, it helps me catch back up without spending a ton on the originals!

Dang, I wish they had pics for the GA Hawkman and Hawkgirl but if I ever see 'em that's the one I'll probably get.

I bet they are going to look awesome. I mean it's the four horsemen sculpting it.

They have to be 6", since these are DCUC and the Batman and Clayface are just reused from earlier releases. Guess this takes care of all those complaints about how impossible it was to find Clayface in the DCSH days! Making a muddied Batman to go with him was just icing on the cake. I think I found the Bats for my collection...

I personally hate the idea of these two-packs. I don't really care for the GA Hawks pack and Batman looks like someone blasted him with a turd. These aren't quite as bad as the "how bout you pay $30 for a chase on mattycollector" idea, but they're not a good one either. At least the clayface I had that WAS worth a little something is going to be completely devalued now.
I love the DCUC line, but I hate the way it's distributed. I'm luckier than most though and usually find everything, but it is USUALLY after quite a search. Wal-Mart wave was not a problem here. |

^ I'm puzzled by your reasoning.
If the distribution hadn't been bad, your Clayface wouldn't be "worth" so much in the first place. So now Mattel's going to make more available in a different package, and he'll be "devalued" after the fact. How does that hurt you? (Though I'll bet that MOSC single-carded Clayfaces are still going to command high prices after the 2-pack comes out.) Yeah, I'm not crazy about muddy Bats, but I'll happily pay $25 for the set, given that my alternative the last time I checked was $60-75 for Clayface alone. Meanwhile, I own Luthor and S-Girl from the DCSH line, but I'm glad those who missed them will be able to have an opportunity. (I know I saw them MAYBE once more each after I got mine.) And I'm stoked for green Brainiac and more Golden Age characters. I hope all the sets come to fruition. |

I hate the distribution in general. I find things, but only because I go to about 8 targets, 10 wal-marts, and 4 toys r us stores to get them. I saw two-face and clayface ONCE and ONCE only. I never found a Cain Batgirl figure. I don't think I've ever seen a clayface for 60-75. 35 or so maybe, but I've never seen it at the price you mentioned. Green Braniac is the only appealing thing to me about those sets, but I won't be paying 25 for him.
It just feels like such a waste to spend time finding something rare like clayface, cyborg superman, or supergirl only to have them re-released. I don't sell at shows, but it is/was nice knowing a few of these things were actually worth a little something. These online packs just take the fun out of it for me. |

In other words, would you have preferred an easy-to-find Clayface and no two-pack version later on, or the current situation where you have a figure that still commands decent aftermarket prices even after a "re-release" has been announced? Besides, if you've got no plans to ever sell your Clayface, then it really doesn't matter what he's worth in the aftermarket. To you, he might as well be priceless. OTOH, if you do intend to sell him, then price fluctuations are a risk you assumed when you bought the toy.

I don't intend to sell him, but it would have been nice that if something happened and I NEEDED to I could have and made a little bit of money. I've got hundreds and hundreds of figures, the only reason I sold ANY were because I finally got fed up with the JLU line.
There are also several Clayfaces on eBay right now with only one of those at $50 (and that is a BIN with best offer). The others are considerably less. It's not the chase that lost the appeal. It's the re-releases after the chase that make all that time spent useless . Wouldn't you feel burnt out if you spent that time finding something rare only to have it re-released in an almost, if not identical scheme? I also don't see why people are bitching at me over my opinion on toy distribution. It's not my fault their distribution sucks and it's not my fault that anybody didn't get a clayface or any other rare figure. If you wanted one bad enough, you would have bought one from one of the "good sellers" on eBay or at a toy show or have friends find them. I don't just look toys for myself. I've got friends out west that look toys for me in their areas and I do the same for them. I could have probably paid $50 and spent less money than I did finding one at retail. I don't think I said anything inflammatory in my post, but people seem to have a problem with my opinion on a toy and its distribution. So, for anyone who doesn't understand my reasoning I'm sorry. I wish they had made him easy to find to begin with, period. It was nice however, that while he was rare, if I needed to sell it I could have and made a little profit on it (if you don't count gas/other expenses to get him). Sorry that is unreasonable and/or offensive. |

^ I didn't see anyone "bitching". It certainly wasn't my intent, at least. And I doubt ANYONE'S going to disagree with you on the suckitude of DCSH/DCUC distribution.
At any rate, I feel it's contradictory to say you hate the two-packs because they're making Clayface's "value" go down, then turn around and say you hate the bad distribution which made him "worth" more in the first place. EDIT: Oh, and re: Clayface prices, I've mainly been checking Amazon sellers recently. I've had just about enough of eBay. |

Here's what I've been trying to say.
I HATE the distribution. I don't like the two-packs. I wouldn't care if clayface wasn't worth anything if he were easy to find because I would still have bought the figure. I do care that this rare figure I have now that I worked hard to find is going to be worth less because mattel has crappy distribution and decides to re-release the figure in a two-pack instead of focusing on new characters. There's no need to re-release toys just because they're rare. Having those grails is part of the fun of collecting, IMO. Don't get me wrong, I hate it for people that don't have/couldn't find him. I still don't have a cassie cain ( I keep meaning to buy her off eBay since she's usually around $24 or so). The option to sell for a profit was nice, but will go away once the two-packs are made official. I want to say again I have no current intentions to sell him, but if I HAD to I could have made a few bucks. Look at DC Direct cyborg superman. He was $100 at one point (loose). As soon as the DCSH Cyborg superman was announced, the DCD was worthless. I like eBay if I'm buying something, but I rarely sell there anymore since it's feeBay. I mean c'mon. They take X amount from the final value, charge the listing fee, then paypal gets another 4% off the top. I sold an item recently and at the end of the day they were going to take about $100 from me, if not more. |

Maybe the price on some of the originals is artificially high then if it could drop so quickly by a simple re-release?
I know that for myself I love the figs, & don't really care as they're worth more to me than selling them for money. I put a heck of a lot of work into getting all the modern era Joes, & was just as happy when they rereleased most of them. That just meant I could go back & buy duplicates to open & keep the originals in the box. Not that I'd sell them though. Better distribution means more people get what they want which equals less scalpers & less money & time out of my pocket. Sometimes it's the adventure that counts, & the pot of gold is only a bonus... |

Sorry that is unreasonable and/or offensive. And yes, I am happy when I figure I own increases in aftermarket value (it's happened to several TFs I own), but I'm not all that concerned if the value goes down at any point. I have no intention of every selling them. If I ever get to a point financially where I have to rely on my collection for extra cash, then I will probably have larger concerns than how some re-issue prevented me from getting the most money possible from selling a toy. I have also noticed that re-issues or even just the announcement of them doesn't really affect toy prices in the long-term. It's been my experience that most people who are willing to buy the toys are also willing to pay extra for originals in good or excellent condition, especially if there are any changes made to the re-issue. Having said that, it always comes down to what the buyer is willing to pay and what the seller is willing to charge. No amount of speculation (read: guesswork) is going to change that.
