Finally time to post these. I mixed 2 plus batches together so my usual "all text" post is a long one.

I still have the completed team to post (have 1 character I want to finish, but it's not necessary for the team to be considered complete).

The Universe is expanding.... (pics to follow in next post)

I finally have an endgame (no pun) in mind for this long running project. Though I'm not going to get into that now, it's nice to have a planned stopping point. But that's a future talk for a future point and not one I'll belabor any further. Speaking of Endgames, I was watching it recently and the A-Force scene, while cool, was very forced and honestly was way out of place in that battle sequence. But that is mainly because of the way they shoehorned it in there. A better way to have implemented it would have been to do like the "team-up" sequence ala the first Avengers film with Capt. Marvel taking a zigzag approach across the battlefield & trying to make it to the van while interacting with every female Marvel hero along the way. That would have felt more organic than the rather arbitrary 'pop up out of no where' scene that made no logical sense. So, my overly long point is, I wanted to add more female characters before I take a customizing break and went through my "list" to see how many characters I wanted to add sooner rather than later. I knocked out quite a few more than I planned on, but sooo much hair sculpting! In comic news I've still been on a Wolverine tear, but I think that's about done. Origins went straight downhill once they brought in Daken. Since I started picking up Gamerverse packs for suit bodies I decided to keep one of the Spidey's as is. I hate the hands though, they need to be replaced. So, anyway, onto the rest...

Count Nefaria - As one of the Avengers earliest adversaries his appearance pre-dates my birth by quite a few years. So I only know of him from 'Top 10/Best of" type lists and random art here and there. I want to get more Avengers villains made and Nefaria is high on most lists so he was an easy choice. Plus it helps that his design is pretty easy. I only had to find a way to make the cape tie and paint him. The cape tie was a bit of creativity. The cape is entirely removable as I first fixed the string to the upper part of the cape then swung it around and attached it to the back. Once I made sure it'd take a considerable amount of force to remove it I finished painting the cape while waiting on the Marauder head. Now that he's done, Graviton is next to cross off the list. Just not sure when that will be.

Black Widow - This is the last Widow I intend to make. I now have a version of the character in with: SHIELD (going to be redone I think), one in with the street level heroes (for her time being paired with Daredevil), and finally this version which is for the Avengers shelf. She was very easy to make. I had the head from whatever version Hasbro included it with - added some highlights to the hair and blush to the cheeks to go along with a standard body. The stingers are slightly painted gold versions while the belt was one of the silver ones that I repainted entirely. So, that's it for the figure. The bike is a Maisto Ducati that I painted into Widow colors. I consider it both part of a Riders sub-project and an homage to the Age of Ultron chase scene. I thought about giving her holsters for the pistols, but they would clash too starkly with her Avengers (non-MCU) look so I left them off. All in all, Natasha Romanoff has a nice representation on the shelves.

Spider Woman - This is a character that was in desperate need of redo given the crappy figure that Hasbro made. The very first thing I did was to make her mask design and set that aside since I knew a lot of hair was going to need to be sculpted on it and that was going to take a while on its own. So I then went to work putting the costume design together and making sure that looked right. Surprisingly the body didn't take long at all. Not even the logo. Finally, it was sculpt on the stupid hair time which took forever. Though it came out quite well the hair doesn't fall down the back the way I wanted it too - it's too straight, I call it a beaver tail. That's been a common problem when I've had to sculpt long hair. But I finally figured out why and have since solved that problem on the other ladies. I'm glad to have the character with proper representation finally. With having made U.S. Agent just recently the Force Works team is complete. Not that I went out of my way to purposely make the team, there just happens to be a complete first roster if I cared to take a pic. Which I don't...

Ms. Marvel - Ms. Marvel is another redo in this batch, but her and Spider Woman are the only ones. Once again the Hasbro figure is beyond terrible. The costume was easy to emulate only needing a sash (flexible straps) and paint job. I was going to use a shade of gold for the lightning bolt but decided to use a dark yellow and gloss it to make it pop. Then I had to sculpt all that stupid hair. I actually ended up sculpting it twice. The first attempt was ok but very blah looking. Like she was just in from the rain. So I added a layer on top of that with more depth and body to it. I styled it based off of a Bowen statue I have. I almost went with the closed mask look like on the Hasbro figure, but decided I like this more. I went with fists since she was more of a brawler during this time period too. Now I can finally add the character to the Avengers shelf and repurpose the Hasbro figure into something else. Carol Danvers is a prominent character who is ultimately going to get the Widow treatment with multiple versions made. This is the first with two more to follow.

Domino - You wouldn't think painting black on black would be hard, but it's harder than you'd think, especially when you have one part glossy and the other flat satin, not matte. For such a drab color palette, Domino took a long time to complete. That was mostly due to all the sculpt work. I found a nice piece of art that looks like it's from an X-Force comic (strike team version) so I chose that for her design for my first Domino figure. I had to sculpt all of the straps and the bracelets. I also sculpted the collar, enlarged the chest slightly and sculpted on most of the belt. I used the front from a Marauder something or other. I added a couple of pouches and affixed the gun holsters to her sides. All of that plus guns from Marauder. On her legs there's an ammo pouch, sculpted on throwing knives and another pouch on her boot. Oh, and I threw a couple of grenades onto the back of her belt also. She came out well, all that and she's not even unbalanced. The glossy black looks pretty sharp in person. I do want to make her blue & purple outfit for nostalgia reasons - had the old Toybiz figure as a kid - and to go along with the Ian Churchill Cable design from the same time period that I still need to make. Eventually...

Weapon X (escape) - Even though I'm fresh off a Wolverine reading binge, I had no intention of making this figure at first. I was more than content to just have the Weapon X version I made last batch, but when I decided to add the third battery pack, I ended up with another mostly naked Wolverine figure as a result. And I started to think about what I could do with it. The obvious choice was an escape from Weapon X version. It's a strange feeling to spend a couple of hours painting a figure, then taking it outside and deliberately splattering it with red paint. Amazingly while I was doing that all the paint flying around miraculously missed the head except for what you can see on the face and a big glop that landed on the top of the head. I lucked out for stupidly leaving the head on while doing that. Whew. But, it makes for a nice gory-looking Logan for tearing through the Weapon X facility and killing everyone in sight. Oh, I forgot the helmet... I had no immediate plans for the extra helmet so I severed part of the cord, added some small "wires" to it and splattered it too. Nice little accessory for the figure.

Vision - I made this Vision for my brewing West Coast Avengers sub-team. This is another team I'm not actively making since most of the characters I have left will fall under the main Avengers realm anyway. I figure I'll get to them at some point eventually. There's really only Pym in his jumpsuit that might be a challenge. Tigra is on the list. I need to figure something out with her design first. Then there's a Mockingbird that doesn't suck and the android Torch, etc... But back to Vision, there's really not much to say. Vinyl cape and white paint. A lot of white paint...

Marvel Girl - While most of the Giant Size team was made by Hasbro, it always felt like an incomplete lineup without even taking into account the glaring Banshee omission. Especially since Thunderbird died one issue into his tenure with the team. (Seriously, why does he keep warranting a figure? The only thing he's ever done as a character is die!) But, I wanted more characters on the team. Those O.G. members that came along and joined up afterwards: Angel in this red, white & yellow costume and Jean Grey as Marvel Girl in her green and yellow costume. Already made Warren, it was Jean's turn., and this damn figure took forever to make. Mostly because of the head. I started by sculpting the mask on and adding the hair in multiple stages. I can't say exactly how much time was put into making this look, but it was substantial. The skirt is cobbled together from a Dr. Strange waist piece that I had to cut up and glue to the body and then add sculpt on top of it to complete the look (and help keep the skirt attached). Honestly this was way too much work to ever do again, but a key part of another X team is in place. Now just need a Banshee to flush out the team. Just have to find a head. Or make one. We'll see...

Fer-De-Lance - I've wanted a Fer-De-Lance figure ever since I first read the character in the pages of a Captain America comic. Just something about her design appealed to me, so when I decided on this "A-Force" theme adding some female villains was a given. It was also the perfect time to finally start knocking the Serpent Society off the list. She was my obvious first choice. Custom-wise the body was simple to make. The blades were a chore and I've already replaced the right twice and will probably do it again. It's just off... The head though was a chore. The look in the comic is slightly elongated, but her turn around art is a bit more bulbous since it accounts for the apparatus that the hose (or whatever that thing on her head is) is connected to which most artists do not. So I went with the turn around look since I tend to use those often when choosing designs.

Vindicator - I had forgotten that I wanted to add one more character to my core Alpha Flight team. As a character adding Heather Hudson to the team was my intention from the start. I just never took the time to make her. This project was a perfect time to do so. I almost went with her green and white look to have her stand out, but I hate the way it looks and having her, Mac and Logan in matching color schemes was too tempting to pass up. Since I chose this design I had debated on what color the visor should be until I decided to make both. I started with the red because it gave me a chance to sculpt her hair in a way that I wanted. There was no way I was going with that crazy hair the artists used to do. It's impractical and frankly would look stupid in 3-d and completely unbalance the figure. Hard pass. For the blue visor it was the ponytail look which was easy to make. Then some paint work later and my Alpha Flight team is complete. (No, I don't care about any of the other members, they're superfluous.)

Selene - While I was in the mood to add female characters, it was the perfect time to add the Black Queen. Not just an Emma Frost repaint, I did a lot of sculpting to get her look right, based on he art I chose. I sculpted the top of the boots, the corset, the head band and all of the hair. The thigh strap is a belt, probably the same one from the base figure. After a lot of black paint I put a couple coats of gloss on most of her black areas. Finally I went with a simple Emma cloak rather than something more billowy as she's also going to have to share shelf space with the rest of the Hellfire Club. Now she's ready to join Emma on the shelf. I need to make more guards.

Black Racer - In the same issue that I first read Fer-De-Lance in also had Black Racer, so I consider them a duo. That meant she was next off the Serpent list. I had no idea how to make this speedster at first. I knew what I wanted to do, but actually making it work was a whole different matter. I actually had to make this damn figure twice. Well, the body anyway. Long story short I misplaced the first one I'd started and since I have yet to find it I just bought another figure and made a new one rather than continuing to look in vain. While waiting on the new body I spent time sculpting the head and all that ridiculous hair. You can't even see the hair down the back, and I didn't even go as crazy as some of the art I've seen.. It was fun to make but also a pain since there was so much sculpting invovled. I almost didn't paint the boots to match her design as I didn't want her in baby blue booties, but once I started painting them it they grew on me.

Coachwhip - I have no affinity for this character, at all. So when I went on this female character kick and started looking at adding Serpent Society members I wanted to knock off some of their tertiary female team members first as I was unlikely to get to them otherwise. I started off with the intent to completely sculpt the head from scratch and had it in progress when I saw this head and said, that's perfect! I just had to add the visor onto it which saved me a lot of sculpting time. Now I have another team in progress, but I'm a fan of the snake squad so I'll be looking to complete them soon after returning from hiatus.

Colleen Wing - It was finally time to make Colleen Wing, who sprung from the pages of the X-Men, into a figure. When I started looking into female characters to make, I wanted to get her off the list and added in with the rest of the street level heroes. Most Colleen Wing customs out there use the same part combo and outfit design. I almost followed suit, but that goes against my nature, so I went looking for a suitable costume to tackle. I found this one and made a slight tweak to the end of the sleeves as I like the over the hand look. I sculpted that bit on the hands along with the collar and shoes (w/ laces). The hair took the longest amount of time, again, but I applied the lessons learned with Spider Woman and got the exact shape and look I wanted with no beaver tail! Painted her up along with the sword blade and she's ready to go.

Enchantress (EMH) - I've mentioned this stupid "for fun" figure that I started, I think, a year ago now if not longer. I finally said enough and decided to reclaim the real estate the half finished custom was soaking up and get it done. I used the look from the "Ballad of Beta Ray Bill" episode. I started with sculpting on the mask, which had cured before I realized the hair on the right of her head isn't even with the left and I should have carved out that area before sculpting. Oh well, still looks good. I then sculpted the arm armor and spikes. I wasn't paying close enough attention and sculpted the spikes onto the wrong side of one forearm. After fixing that mishap it was a tedious paint job to complete. This was really anything but an easy "for fun" custom. But I think she came out great. just have to finish the flame hair attachment I started.

Hammerhead - This character was a late addition. I got in a bunch of Nomad heads, including this one and since I had extra Negative bodies I put one to immediate use and added the mob hitman to the project. Other than painting and applying the suit lines this one was easy to make.

J. Jonah Jameson - Another late add due to getting a Nomad head. As soon as I pulled that one from the box I knew I was making a J.J.J. figure immediately. JK Simmons is J.J.J. personified and this is one of the few times that I have no qualms about using an actor likeness to bring a character into figure form. He just nails the role so perfectly it's hard to not envision the actor as the character. One of the very few instances where I will say that.

Maria Hill - I've wanted to get this character off the list for a while, especially once the MCU came and she debuted there. I have never had even a passing interest in the official Hasbro figure. It's fugly looking and was pretty hard to acquire for a time. So when I saw this head at Nomad's shop I picked it up since it's a much better looking head for the character and was an easy custom. Plus using the Smulder's likeness makes the character actually stand apart from Quake who often looks like Maria Hill in art. The paint is off in the pic, I mistakenly put on a final coat of the wrong color. That's been fixed.

Mr. Negative - Not much to say here, repainted the skin tone and gave him a sword.

My OCD Updated figures:

Deadpool - When I first made Deadpool I mentioned I wanted a third head with ovals ont he mask. I just hadn't gotten around to making one when I first made the figure so I made it a footnote to get one done later. Well that finally happened when I got a new Nomad head w/ big ovals. It's the last mask design I wanted for Deadpool and he's all done now.

Quake - Finally found a head I like for the character. (Third time's the charm.) Sharp eyed SW fans might recognize Sabine from Rebels as the head. I still don't like short hair, but this head fits the character to a T.

Storm (updated) - This is almost a new custom give the amount of work I had to do to get the look right. I had to crack off the original shoulder pads and made these new ones that actually match her look. Repositioned the X logos on her chest so that they are even. Then it was time to take on the real reason for this update, changing up that ridiculous head I hard on her before. I sculpted the bejeebus out of this head. The hair took more layers than I thought I'd need. Many more. I also sculpted on thunderbolt earrings. Painting the head was time consuming. I even gave her a subtle blush on the cheeks. Lastly I painted the entire figure again. A lot of work when I had only planned to add some hair sculpt onto the head I originally had on her.

Nick Fury - Another head update. And also another Nomad head which allowed me to put the dopey looking Hasbro exclusive head to pasture. I have to give Hasbro props, they've really upped their head sculpting game. I'm no fan of the Legends scale bodies, but the various heads they produce have been some quality work. I'll keep adding them every chance I get so I can knock out more and more characters.

Nice to see someone else give Blue Shield some love. Marvel Girl's green dress is her graduation costume/uniform from the original run. Would not mind having that full set in 4".

You are 100% right. I thought she showed up in this then quick switched to the Phoenix green outfit. That's what I get for trusting the net too much. She became Phoenix in issue 105. Well now I need to make that outfit and make the graduation team that I had no intention to make.

Edit: for anyone interested individual pics will be up on Flickr in the next few days. Not going to post them here. There's too many.
