No. Star Trek was never involved. Hasbro developed a writers group to work on Transformers movies and at approximately the same time there was discussion of trying to create a cinematic Hasbro universe. I am not sure if the Transformers writers group was or is taking part in developing the Hasbro cinematic universe. Hasbro does not own Star Trek and has never that I know of had anything to do with Star Trek. The comics recently created a unified Hasbro universe that could be seen as a preview of what Hasbro was or is trying to do on the big screen or maybe it's just Hasbro saying we are doing this and IDW was free to do their own take. The comic universe includes GI Joe, Action Man, MASK, ROM, Transformers, Micronauts, maybe a property that I'm missing, and at SDCC Hasbro made a box set for the IDW shared universe that included a Visionary. Visionaries have never been in any IDW comic as far as I know.

Ehh... the characters never crossed over. They just fought the same threat.
The same happened later with Infestation 2 but with Lovecraftian horrors.

I think Hasbro put a ton of their eggs in the GI Joe movie basket. I'm not sure if there was really a plan B. If I recall, GI Joe Renegades was cancelled due to pressure from Paramount or Hasbro believing there where some similarities with Retaliation. The head Renegades writer basically said as much in an interview. While Renegades had a very unique take on Joe, it was well done and actually did fairly well considering it was on a channel that most everyone other than Hasbro knew was going to die. Hasbro let Paramount have a great deal of control over the life of Joe and Paramount delivered two mediocre products that essentially killed Joe especially since it seems fairly clear Hasbro had no plan B if the movies failed. I mean they own one of the most famous toy lines of all time and can't figure our how to make money off of it. It is kinda sad. Sure Transformers makes tons of money, but there is no reason Joe can't either. If it was a licensed product like Marvel or Star Wars then there would be an elevated success level. But as the owners of the property there has to be a way they can make money off of the property.

I know that I already suggested getting YouTube vocal before, but let's again consider how the 6 inch YouTube community became a thing back when MU started up. Perhaps replicating that a little bit will help bring the hype back? After all, some people get into Legends or whatnot because of YouTubers.

There's no doubt 6 inch have a thriving and popular community, but as Jackieboy pointed out - a lot of people jumped ship from 4 inch to 6 inch. The question is, which came first - the chicken or the egg? Did Legends just become more popular, or did the huge amount of promotion and investment combined with far better value for money in the Legends line, happening at the same time as complete disinterest from the person in charge of Marvel to the 4 inch line destroy the 4 inch line's popularity? After all, 4 inch had artic cutting, accessory cutting, constant rebrands, and even price hikes at the same time - all following some heavy shelf-saturation of the line. Hasbro (Stall?) almost did everything they could to kill the line. If they had asked the fans what *not* to do at the time - that's exactly what they did.
Or, to put it another way: Imagine next year Legends went from $25 to $35, they made the packaging more basic, removed the BAF parts, removed 90% of accessories, and cut back on artic, while spending less to promote the line. At the same time they spend a bomb bigging up 4 inch figures, improve the packaging, increase the artic, increase the accessories, improve the paints, even add BAF parts for a larger figure compatible with the line, and at the same time they drop the price to $10. They then maintain this for 3 years. At the end of those 3 years has Legends got more popular or not? Has 4 inch gotten more popular or not? |

Those of you with instagram and twitter accounts - let's start using some unified activist hashtag. Something like #marvel375forlife, #marvel375forever.

considering that legends first hit shelves in 2002 and has a community that predates the universe line*2009 and youtube they also have many satelitte communities, trade groups, acba groups, turn up at cons religiously its going to be hard. also a little known fact that a decent number of legends collectors ALSO collect or collected MU.it looks like the opportunity passed us by and we didnt take it. After some research I disco that HASBRO is a 8% shareholder in Paramount Pictures. That is a HUGE stake in VIACOM the parent corporation. And according to Wikipedia it generates $3.7B annual revenue off a yearly operating income of just $219M. Lots of money in that partnership and Star Trek could easily fit into the scheme and the deal worked out amongst powerful friends in a round of golf most likely.
Also Tuesday fun fact: Marvel once owned the copyrights to the word "ZOMBIE" but sold it off in the sixties. It has since fallen under public domain and can used freely. YouTube hype? Name three Marvel 3.75" tubers that are still active... I will wait. Point is we are small, like our figures. The six community is massive and sales are through the roof. The new Legends 6" is one of their best hits of all time, in action figures. You have to remember, action figures are a very SMALL part of HASBRO. I forget the actual number, but I have linked it before along with charts and graphs, the kind that make Kernel tingle. It is something 6% to maybe 8% of their turnover. NERF, Monopoly and believe it or not, Mr. Potato head make up over 60% of their profits. We, as Marvel 3.75% buyers, don't equate to half of a half of a half of a percent to them. And all of us did not acquire 100% of our collection by buying at retail from their accounts. Sad but true, we don't matter. Six is strong, deny if you want but numbers don't lie. They will sell more Monoply set for a higher revenue in December than the entire lifespan of MU. We think we are unique and import snowflakes, truth is we are just dust on the moon. We don't matter.... Sad but true. Also, Stall is just a suit and a designer, as pointed out his boss his Jesse Falcon. He answers to Disney/Marvel and says yes or no to Stall. It is all a numbers game... we are $0.00000078 that is our number. That is mathematically our contribution to every $100 shareholder dividend. Sorry if this sounds bleak, just a reality check. 12 youtubers without a combined 100k sub base isn't going to change that. 3,000 people (many repeaters in the respective lines) buyers on kickstarter aren't going to convince them to fill every Wal-Mart and TESCO world wide. The margins simply aren't there for our line. We can justify to each why it makes sense, but trust me Disney and HASBRO have very very very smart financial wizards and they say otherwise. The ride is over. Our Sun has set, doesn't mean you have to like it but false hope is dangerous. Time to face facts. We may get a few more two packs and an occasional surprise trickle down economics figure a year, but if they were "actively seeking new markets" then we would have seen an exclusive at SDCC. We didn't though, and smart money says we won't next year either. Light at the end of the tunnel though, EVERYTHING is cyclical. Even bellbottoms will be cool again. 5 to 8 years maybe they reboot and relaunch once the six inch has neared its life cycles end. We had a good run my friends. We have over 500 characters in our scale!!!! That is amazing! We did it! We saw it to the end.... be proud not sad.

Right now...RIGHT NOW, there are 61 people viewing this thread right now. 2 members and 59 guests.
HASBRO people DO look here, I have that knowledge from Jesse Falcon himself. The way to bring the line back is to post pictures. Pics twice a week from EVERY member. If you don't post a pic, you are helping to end it. Page after page of complaining and two or three pics in every five pages..... we HAVE to do better. Everyone has at least one figure. Everyone knows at least person with a smart phone, everyone can post SOMETHING. Not super rad customs, or super armies, or super pro quality pictures with gorgeous backgrounds, not even super cool rooms filled with 3.75" goodness..... what we need is a clear picture of HULK. Another of Punisher. A shot of Namor standing in a puddle. A close up if Absorbing Man's face. Just simple pics of what already have. Show them how cool they are in their simplest form. If you read this forum and don't post one pic every ten days..... then maybe you should quit this forum. You are partly responsible for the demise of something I love.

Purely speculation, but I think the people who jumped from 4" to 6" had already jumped from 6" to 4" when they thought Legends was dead for good.

That's a crossover that IDW did of their major licenses a few years ago. The Hasbro Verse is something else. It was an interesting concept, but as someone pointed out the interaction between the properties was limited. TMNT, XFiles (I think), Mars Attacks and others were included in either the first or second crossover.

i am disappointed that the MU 3.75 is being "rested" and can see how everyone here wants to change it. With the momentum of the 6' line and Hasbro's strong bias towards it, it is most certain that nothing will change soon. Or at least, as some of you have pointed out, not for a few years.
i don't believe it was one reason but all reasons combined that caused our scale to fall. Poor distribution, series name changes (MU to Infinite to ML), articulation reduction, price inflation, poor paint apps/quality control issues, corporate bias, general public disinterest, new fans flocking directly to 6 inch popularity, old fans lost, Chinabay, etc... and its not just MU, but as we know other properties have seen our current demise and have had short lived eras of 3.75, just look at DC with Infinite Heroes, DC Collectibles, Mattel Multiverse, and Funko. Many forums have constantly expressed and reminisced of a period just a couple of years ago when brands, vehicles, playsets, & multi-packs were boundlessly full of 3.75 scale on shelves and aisles. Sadly, it has passed and with but a handful of die hard brands surviving. JOE fans are seeking Chap Mei, Corps, and independent Kickstarters for fixes. Whether it will return again is a huge mystery and will rely on the old and next generation of fans. But i believe the insurgence of the many 3.75 Kickstarters (some of which i have backed) is a strong start to showing the public a huge interest still remains and even thrives. i can't fault the 6 inch fans for reaching & enjoying their golden age either. Yet i am equally happy to support our scale regardless of it's current 'rested' state through the suggestions made here and elsewhere. Yes, we've fallen, but its up to us what we do next. Rather than disintegrate, let us recooperate together. All eras have their moments... Last edited by Sender; 09-12-2017 at 08:05 AM.. |
