Tell me about it...
No out of box pics yet, but I wanted to give some thoughts on the new Ant-Man/Stinger two pack that I picked up today while they were still fresh in my head. Oh...and before I forget, these are also included in TRU's price slashes, so I was able to get it for about 35 dollars instead of forty... THE GOOD: Ant-Man: This figure is miles and miles ahead of the previous Walgreen's exclusive Ant-Man (Black Ant.) From the looks of it, it appears we have yet another new body mold, with butterfly joints at the shoulder and a bit of molded fabric wrinkle near the waist to create a bunched up torso. The paints are crisp and clean for the most part, with some nice variations between matte and gloss finishes, with some nice detailed line work. The head sculpt is amazing, and the head and collar piece are also well done and do not interfere with articulation. Stinger: Stinger is on the teen female mold, which is nothing new, but it's one that I've always enjoyed as that particular mold features calf rotation, which for some reason, most of the adult female Legends do not, so that's a plus. The wings are awesome, but we've seen these before...except now they are in teen size. We also get a new hand for the teen body, as her left hand is the gesturing hand that most of the adult female Legends use. Like her father, the deco is very well done (paint shading!!!) with bright colors and (mostly) crisp line work. The head sculpt on Stinger is BEAUTIFUL, as the helmet and lower face are sculpted and painted very well. THE BAD: Ant-Man: Loose joints everywhere! The right butterfly joint rotates with almost no tension, the head is loose, and the ab crunch is wobbly. I'm attributing this to maybe the new sculpt not quite being hashed out to perfection, but still, it's really bothersome. There are some spots in the line work on the torso that didn't go all the way through, leaving tiny specks of red showing up through the paintwork. Nothing that can't be touched up, but still. I also had some stuck joints on mine, particularly around the calf joints thanks to the glossy paint that was being used, but it's nothing that a little hot water couldn't fix. Still something to keep an eye out for. Stinger: Where Ant-Man had troublesome upper body QC, for some reason, Stinger has it in the lower body. The hip joints on mine are a bit loose, but at least her legs stay on when I move them (unlike my Ultimate Spider-Woman..whose left leg falls off quite a bit,) and the legs are also a bit loose around the calf joint. It doesn't take much to swing them around. The head is also a bit wobbly as well. Lastly, the legs are a bit mis-matched color wise. This is due to the fact that the paints for the legs below the thigh joint not matching the purple plastic above it. It's not too awful, but it can be an eyesore if you're a stickler for that sort of thing. And the final gripe, which applies for both of these...THE LACK OF FREAKING ACCESSORIES! We have two figures that can shrink down to the size of an insect...yet Hasbro couldn't be bothered to throw in a set of mini, non articulated Ant-Man/Stinger miniatures, and maybe a couple of tiny ants or insects? The Lizard figure for the ASM movie came with a couple of tiny lizard pets, can't we get Scott a couple of bugs to team up with? I also think that we are at the point, that we should start getting alternate heads for every single one of these figures if they are a hero that spends quite a bit of time unmasked in their comics. I can live without the flashy sparkle and bubble effects honestly...but I'll take an unmasked head sculpt for Ant-Man, Stinger, or any other masked hero or villain any day. Forty dollars for two, bare-boned figures is quite a bit these days, especially when they don't come with any accessories or BAF parts with them to make it feel like you're getting your money's worth. Found X-force Deadpool at Game stop and Deathlok and Domino at Walmart. These are the only three from the wave that I really wanted so I'm happy to have scooped them all up in one day. The Deadpool as a figure is fairly standard, nothing new or special, but the lack of accessories compared to the Hascon version is noticed. It's also really lame that they colored the pistol the way they did and his right hand is too open to securely grip a katana. Remender's Uncanny X-force is one of my favorite runs ever so this figure is still totally satisfying for me. Deathlok is the winner of the bunch for me. Some of his plastic feels a bit soft and I personally don't care for the big minigun piece but otherwise It's everything I was hoping it would be. Domino is an effective reuse of Mockingbird's body. The guns were my only apprehension about this one seeing it back at conventions but in hand I think they came out well. This style of gun definitely looks better with Domino than it did with the 12" DP.

I hope I am able to find one for myself. It beats having to pay for online shipping.

The one thing I especially love about Ant-Man figures...everything is game...scale be damned!

^Bless that last shot there, Triv. Especially with the quote.
All the issues with your figures aside, I can't wait to get my hands on this set. I'm still praying for a BAF Stature one day, but having any Cassie is fine by me, especially since she can fill in for both the 616 and MC2 versions. And having a modern Scott is no small deal, either. At least the color mismatch on Cassie's legs doesn't seem as drastic in natural lighting.

I wasn't a huge fan of the Black Ant figure, and don't care much for the Toybiz Hank Pym either, so getting this version of Ant-Man, and with so much extra attention to the figure to boot, was a real treat. None of the flaws (such as the stuck joints) are really game breaking either (although the loose joints are a bummer.) Most of them are fixable. I'm more disappointed about the lack of accessories more than anything. It would not have cost a whole lot for Hasbro to throw in a tiny Scott and Cassie, yet...they forgot to. I also think that at this point, alternate heads should be included with EVERY Legends figures, especially those that show their faces regularly in the comic. The recent X-23 figure is a perfect example of this, and would have benefitted a bit more with an alternate, unmasked head. |

THe Select? I think so as that is the one that came with the background piece, right?

Thanks BB...the kind words are much appreciated, considering how quick I had to snap those photos today (especially the railing shot, where it's been a very windy day and was dreading the figs taking a two story tumble to the ground below!)

A small bit of effort would give every figure that much more value.

I’d argue that Remender is the only person to have worked on Deadpool in roughly the last 15 years who actually understands the character... |

So I guess after Thing we really only have Doctor Doom and Super-Skrull to look forward to with the Walgreens exclusives.
I wonder if they'll shift to another franchise like Avengers or something. Where is that Loki from? |

You and me both. Rina's my favorite of Wolverine's various kids - I even bought that old Toybiz figure just to have some sort of Rina around. It's not like she would be hard to do, Hasbro - just slap a new head and some psychic claws on the teen girl buck, add some shoulderpads and boot wingtips like her father, and we're golden.

Finally found the Sasquatch wave out in the wild. Used Brickseek, and found the entire wave at Walmart. Just picked-up X-23 and Deadpool. Glad to finally be caught up with the current waves, if it is just for a moment...

I knew I should have grabbed the Infinity Gauntlet when I saw one. I can’t find one anywhere for retail.
I’m also looking for a loose X-23 with a better paint job. |
