I'm not a fan, Kamala Khan was a strike while the iron is hot character, I haven't actually read any of her comics, but the media hailing her as the first Muslim super heroine, when characters like Dust existed for years before her just sat wrong with me

Ms Marvel is one of Marvels best selling characters where it counts, trade and digital sales. People pointing to her titles monthly sales don't know how the industry works.
Agreed, let the block function banish the misogynist creeps to the void where they belong.

I’m a huge advocate for female characters, hardly a misogynist. I just need them to be good.

The first female Muslim hero thing was totally wrong (off the top of my head I think of Dust, Monica Chang, and the one Captain Britain who's name I can't remember, Faiza?) I would say she's the first really truly marketable Muslim hero for Marvel though. Dust had a traditional character design that would alienate some (and honestly, her powerset is pretty stereotypical), people don't even realize there is a Chinese Muslim population, and Captain Britain doesn't exactly draw stateside. I would love figures of all of them though. Granted, Monica could be made just by popping a an unmasked Silk head on an Mockingbird or Black Widow body. I'm actually kinda hoping SDCC to come up with some figures that truly surprise. Marrow Infinty War/Endgame Hulkbuster Amadeus Hulk Modok America Chavez Squirrel Girl Iron Heart debut suit and new suit. Armor Secret Wars 2099 characters Daisy Johnson Comic-verse Black Order Sharon Rogers Luna Snow The Hellions The Morlocks Mojo - Spiral - Longshot The Mandarin.. etc. |

She has a new writer, Saladin Ahmed, who is doing a great job taking over from G Willow Wilson.
Kamala was the first Marvel Muslim superhero to get her own solo ongoing, not the first Muslim superhero, but that was too nuanced for the media. Great idea for a Monica Chang custom though. I wish we would get a generic female SHIELD agent army builder like the male version we got with comic Nick Fury.

Ok. She isn’t even in the top 200 best selling comics. Pretty sure Spidey cracked the top 200 in the 60’s.

Then again, the Media likes to exploit groups today. There was an article the other day about MLP bringing in a gay pony. Like oh my god, stop the presses, a gay character is going to be on a show. That's hot news for ya right there! Seriously though, I think it's more insulting to gay people that every time a gay character is brought into a show the media has to exploit it as if their being gay should matter. That tells me that the character is there for a quota and not there to be an actual character.

Folks...I love you all...and I truly have no dog in the fight, but let's relax on the misogynist accusations. Just because someone doesn't like Squirrel Girl or Gwenpool doesn't automatically make them one. And accusing someone of such, that's modern day McCarthyism at it's finest. Let's just chalk it up to people liking what they like.

As for SDCC sets...we just passed the 25th anniversary of Maximum Carnage not too long ago, so it wouldn't surprise me to see Hasbro put out a MC box set featuring Spidey, Venom, Carnage, Shriek, and Carrion/Demogoblin to go along with the recent Doppelganger figure we just got. Could be a good way to get Firestar out too if they needed to add one extra figure, since she was a part of Team Spidey in that story. Speaking of Doppelganger.... |

We kinda did...if you count that Red Onslaught wave Sharon Carter. There was nothing that really screamed Sharon with that figure, was a fairly generic look, and is easy to customize thanks to the number of female heads that fit easily onto that body mold. Last time I covered the MCU half of the Far From Home wave. Here's a couple thoughts on some of the comic figures of the wave....
Doppelganger: When I saw the six armed Spidey figure from the Kingpin wave, I knew that there had to be other six armed figures in the future for that mold, and this is one I secretly craved. I'm not sure what it was about the character, it was disgusting, creepy, and infuriating (in the Maximum Carnage video game) but it lends itself great to this mold, and is a great fig to put alongside your Carnage to showcase how "extreme" the 90's was. The same gripes are there with the limited articulation scheme, but the hands are swappable with more variety than the six armed Spidey, and the creepy monster feet give it great balance. I also love the choice of colors for the plastics, this guy pops way more in the right ways than Six Arm...It's also a character I never expected to see, and gets us just a little bit closer to a team Carnage which is a plus in my book, so if you can get past the obvious flaws, he's definitely worth picking up. Spider-Woman: Admittedly, I don't know too much about this version of the character....but she's a good, solid representation of it visually. The paint apps on mine were crisp and clean (although the spider on the chest seems to be misaligned unless you pose the ab crunch JUST right.) I like the choice of glossy paints used for the whites, but this figure also suffers from the same issue as the FFH Red Spidey in that the plastics and paints don't match in some areas, making her appear a little uneven. Also, I can't quite put my finger on it, but the arms on the figure seem a bit long and gangly...I'm not entirely sure why. The headsculpt is really gorgeous though, and I love the web accessory (despite it's lack of articulation) though I wish it was removable from the hand so it could be used with other figures such as Silk or Spider-Girl. A different set of hands would have been nice as well, as I get tired of the female figures only ever being able to slap or poke the eyes of their foes. Sounds good I'm on board! On the other hand I can't imagine how irritating it would be to have an oft requested figure like Firestar be in the set. But then again they did that with Enchantress and BOOM...3 months later she was in a Dr. Strange wave. Yess..it all makes sense now they would do something like this.
It would also be right in line with a practice that Hasbro has frequently dived into. After all, until recently, Psylocke was only available for years as part of a high priced, exclusive boxset. Warpath still is. Maximum Carnage was such a delightfully guilty pleasure. It was an absolutely terrible story, but it was pure fantasy booking (Captain America fighting alongside Venom? Seriously?) that exemplified everything that was wrong (and right) with comic books in the 90's. I'm really hoping we see Shriek (with straitjacket accessory!) Demogoblin and Carrion soon. I certainly wouldn't mind getting a Black Cat from that era too (with her crazy ridiculous, physics defying, plunging neckline.) |

@Triv awesome write up/reviews. I wasn’t really wanting Spiderwoman but looking at her now I’ve got it have her. Anyway need a Kraven from the Target Exclusive two pack? If so I’ve got one for trade. Last edited by Tim; 06-18-2019 at 10:34 AM.. |

Thanks Tim! I've nitpicked a bunch on them, but so far, but overall, I'm really liking this wave so far!

Hasbro would be hard pressed to top the original Spider-Man Classics one (which was a repaint of the old Macendale Hobgoblin.) That figure had an excellent sculpt with great articulation that holds up to this day (if a bit large...) Speaking of one upping....let's get the last two figs in the Far From Home wave out of the way... Hydro-Man: Whoa....where too start. So many ups and downs with this guy. First off...he looks bad ass. They really captured the essence of Hydro-Man here, with a dynamite headsculpt, some really awesome sculpted arms and water effects, and the Netflix Luke Cage body was a good reuse here. It's undeniably McFarlane era Hydro-Man, and he smokes that thing we got from ToyBiz back in the day. The bad however, lies in the good unfortunately. I'm not gonna be the one who whines about not receiving standard human arms, because honestly, I'd never set this figure on my shelf with them on. My issue lies with how the articulation is implemented on these arms. Hydro-Man has almost no bend in his elbows, and has no articulation at the bicep...meaning that his posing options are EXTREMELY limited. The arms are really heavy as well, so posing him with them outstretched might require a stand (though the water effects do a pretty good job, and cleverly serve as a makeshift stand.) While I love the Luke Cage body and feel it's appropriately sized for the character, I feel the size might be too small to accommodate the arms, and perhaps better articulation in them would have been attained if the figure was on the Absorbing Man body like his oft-rival Sandman, as it would have given Hasbro a bit more play with the sculpt. It's a shame, because what could have easily been the best comic figure of the year thus far, becomes a huge, excellent-looking disappointment due to this issue. On a side note...I'd love to see this guy re-released, on a slightly retooled Absorbing Man body casted in clear blue plastic to represent his fully watered up form, similar to how Hasbro did with the SDCC Sandman. That would be sick.... Scorpion: First...the elephant in the room. If you have any of the ToyBiz versions...you're honestly good to go. Outside the non-gimmick tail, this new figure does not surpass the original in any way. It doesn't make it a bad figure though...it's actually really good for what it is, but next to the ToyBiz version, this one feels really basic. Scorpion is on a retooled Spider-Man 2099 body, featuring a new torso that is ball jointed, ridding us of the traditional ratchet ab crunch. That's fine for most characters, but the problem is that for Mac...it's way too small. Scorpion has almost always towered over Spidey in some way, and this figure puts him eye to eye with him. In addition, the headsculpt doesn't do Scorpion any favors either. While I'm glad they went with something other than a stoic look, the smile/sneer comes off looking really forced and non-menacing, like when John Conner is teaching Arnie how to smile in Terminator 2. In addition, you can clearly see sculpted lines along the sides of his face where the skin would be exposed on his traditional mask, but instead, Hasbro opted to fill it all in down to the lips with the metallic green. It is still accurate, but not my favorite look for the character (nor the one featured on the side of the box art.) The tail is really good though, as it has a really good bend that stays put, and does a great job supporting the figure when posed right. It can coil around the figure really well thanks to it's length, which adds a ton of personality to the figure where the figure itself fails to inspire. The tail is glued to the back of the figure and is a separate piece, so it can be removed. I'm sure it won't be long until we see customizers out there attaching this to the ToyBiz version, because believe me, I would if I had the guts to be the first to try. All in all, like I said...my gripes aside, it's still a really good figure, especially if you missed out on the ToyBiz version. Does it top it though? I'm gonna say no on that one. Pyro, Lady Deathstrike, and Spiral are decent stand-ins for now. I’m ok with the swapped head that I used for Lady Deathstrike. I’ll definitely get different versions of Emma Frost. I can’t wait to get Mr. Sinister.

Wonder if they'll ever give us a rerelease/redux of Stryfe, with the 90s nostalgia boom they're running with in the X-Waves. I'd love to have him next to 90s Cable.

@Triv nice reviews and pics i agree with you on most points. HydroMan is def my fav in that wave. After stating several times i was fine with my TB Scorpion AND THEN even selling my Molten Man wave one after a live side by side comparison. I STILL bought another one ( i pass so many figs on a daily basis at Duane Reade stores). i see people posing it.. and it suckered me into purchasing another. so this one stays in my office.. and while we're on spider-folk.. and women.. heh.. i saw this pic on IG.. i'm going to set my shelf up JUST like this..i thought the ladies look bad ass like this. I'm going to put the ladies in the front, guys in the middle, bad guys in the back..depending on how many i can get on one shelf.. @pharaoh_black ************************************************** **** and i custom i picked up on Friday

All this 90's love from Hasbro and if we don't get an Exodus out of it before it ends I'm going to be one sad puppy.

I hope so because I'm not paying those prices for him. Though, they need to just redo him with the bigger Cable body since Stryfe is supposed to be the same height as Apocalypse.

I hope so. I spotted that entire BAF Jubilee wave at TRU for a fellow collector and he picked them up later that night. I wanted to buy them because I was a huge X-Men fan as a kid and always wanted to get into Legends. However, at the time I was really only collecting Transformers and Gears of War/NECA. I was not up to date on Legends so I had no idea how rare that wave was.
