There are clearly Hasbro figures that are 10x better while the upgrade for the Pyro doesn't look that significant IMO. The difference isn't that significant to justify buying a $50 pack when I don't personally care about the Rogue. That's just me and my buying decision. Your mileage will vary.

.... I say, doing a fair quantity of said bitching myself (including about this set). Now where’s Super Sabre & Crimson Commando, they’re essential Brotherhood members (semi-sarcastic?)? |

Well chuckle head, since my comment was in response to the requests for Toad, since I more associate Pyro and Avalanche than Pyro and Toad, and I didn't say anything about being displeased with the reveal I'll chalk it up to you not really knowing how coversation do

I recently decided that since we are gettI g a good amount of x and spidey related stuff that ( and I’m just outta room ) I am just gonna focus on x related and spidey related legends mostly. As such i have already offloaded my loose non x and spidey stuff and will be getting rid of the rest later on.

I liked reading the stories of how people collect, and what do they keep and what not.
I have a bit of downtime, so I will give some inside of how I collect toys. At the moment I am packing my huge collection as I have to move in three months and there's a lot to pack. As some people here know, I don't collect only Marvel. I pretty much collect anything from Mythic Legions to Hot Toys to Alien to DC to Disney etc, etc. The main guidelines for me are these: 1- Nostalgia: so everything I read/watch growing up has sentimental value and puts a smile on my face. From Maya The Bee, to Flinstones, to Terminator, to all the comics I read in the 80's. (Note: being brought up in Spain the comics were late, so I read 70's marvel in the 80's, thou some were at just about the same time like New Mutants, Alpha Flight and Teen titans). 2- Very simply, the aesthetic: I know nothing of Ultraman, but those Figuarts aliens looks awesome. 3-Impulse: I travel as much as I can, specially to Asia. And obviously linked to aesthetics I might get something because it looks cool and afterwards it will remind me of that trip ( I do the same with music). In respect to Marvel Legends, it's all about team building. The FF, the Avengers and X-men are the obvious ones. But I'm loving building up X-force, even if I despised that era of Marvel. (I.E. I want Sunspot all black). Who knew that over the top 90's designs made for great looking action figures. Then...I am from a minority, so anything D-list I love. Hence I have a display for A-Force, Asgard, The original Defenders and so and forth. So I am way more excited about a Thundra or Dakim The Enchanter than any Mega-ninja-assassin with antennae and shoulder-pads Deadpool you can give me. (And I like Deadpool). Finally, I Love the movies, but I feel most of the figures will wane over time and classic comic will remain. Hence, my Chris Evans is up for sale, but I will keep Mantis and Nebula as place holders. And one more thing. This new characters like Gwenpool and Miles and Kamala, I might not know initially, but if the design looks great ( and they all do), I will pull out their comics and read about them. Yes, I will always go back to old Hulk and Avengers and Spidey comics and re-read them, but sometimes I need to see what this Venom guy is about. And if you reached till here, good on yah, and keep posting. I love reading people's thoughts, and this is the best forum for marvel fans. |

Moving on...
@captainnash Where did you see the Selene head on the Black Queen body? Been searching but I can't find it. I have ordered the set from Honk Kong. If I get it earlier I will post pictures, pinky promise. Liking the Rogue /Pyro set, and have pre-ordered here in the UK. Now, I can see Hasbro building X -villains, so I wonder if Blob will be a BAF, and maybe Avalanche and Destiny a two-pack. Or even three pack ala Nimrod set. I simply cannot see Destiny on a single release, so my guess is with Mr Dukes. I am still debating the sentinel. Checking finances and moving is not cheap. But I keep looking at that Master Mold head in all its Kirby glory design, plus the Omega Sentinels and I feel it's all worthy. I will know what to do in a week. |

I decided to take three of my six detolfs and turn the top shelves into one giant X-Men battle scene. I might do the same with the other 3 for Spider-Man and have my static poses for all of the lower shelves like normal.
For future planning, I'm going to put Black Tom below Nightcrawler since my idea is to have NC jumping off his shoulder or something and both Thunderbird and Storm will be going into the case with Apocalypse. Also going to get another piece of balsa wood to break up for the Apocalypse battle scene.

If I had seen Jyn on clearance, I would have bought her too since sometimes I snatch up figures if they look like they could work as a regular nobody in a background or something as long as they are cheap. Well that or I had a specific reason to buy the figure like the Gotham dudes who I bought for the background pieces. They make great bystanders and knocked out gangsters.

Displays look good. Have you seen the extra shelves? That might give you a bit more space for display in those Detolfs.

I only have my “core” team of marvel legends x-men (everyone from the 90’s cartoon except Rogue. Was never able to find her and eBay prices are laughably ridiculous). I never collected any of the x-villains or side characters. Just don’t have the room.
They are on my Neca Street scene diorama display along with my Tmnt vs Batman figures.

I buy the figures that I like. Primarily I base it on actually liking the character or at least their appearance. I don't get tied down by worrying about team completion or matching-era looks. From most waves I'll only get one or two figures. If I like a character but find the toy lacking then I'll skip it and see what comes next. The big downside to this approach is that there have been multiple BAFs that I wanted but too many figures in the wave were undesirable and I'm not about to overpay for the BAF complete on ebay. This is why I'm such a supporter of their current trend of selling BAF characters as deluxes.
When they revealed that set it was already announced that it'll go up for order in September as a Pulse exclusive.

@Vex - I collect my Marvel Legends based on characters I know and like. It's that simple. There are a ton of Marvel Legends over the years I was never able to find and buy, but Hasbro being Hasbro, I'm sure we'll see remakes of them eventually. My family and I moved twice in 2017 and lost two-thirds of our belongings because of both moves, so a good chunk of my collection from my early childhood to 2017-present-day is gone, including Toy Biz Marvel figures, classic Masters of the Universe figures (seven of which were Mint In Box), classic Bandai Mighty Morphin Power Rangers items, Toy Biz Marvel Legends, Hasbro Marvel Legends, and more. I still can't write/talk about that for long.
Back on-topic, for characters I collect/buy, it also boils down to five important factors for me: 1.) Affordability, since I'm perpetually broke 2.) Whether it's easy to find or not, as most times whatever's out sells out before I can find out about it/pre-order it or if it's an infuriatingly hard-to-find store exclusive 3.) What accessories, or lack thereof, does the toy come with 4.) How good/bad is the quality control (or if they have metallic paint for no reason, which doesn't make them fit in with the rest of the wave of figures it came with) 5.) What costume/version of said character it is I personally love anything from Marvel from the Silver Age up until the mid/late 90s. Nothing after 2000, with the exception of the J.M.S. and Paul Jenkins pre-Sins Past/Civil War/One More Day eras of Spider-Man, has really caught my attention. Spider-Man is my all-time favorite hero, so any classic Spidey costumes, classic villains, classic heroes and classic supporting characters (I'd still love to see more civilian characters period from all of Marvel's comics, from J. Jonah Jameson and Rick Jones to Moira MacTaggert). I also love the Avengers (Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Wasp, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, etc.), Daredevil, the Fantastic Four, The Incredible Hulk and the X-Men, so any characters from 1961 to 1999 is fine with me. It's just a matter of waiting for characters X/Y/Z/ to get their turn being made into Marvel Legends figures (Negative Zone suit Fantastic Four, classic red suit Daredevil, classic Falcon, classic Miss Marvel, John Romita Sr. Doc Ock with bendy wire tentacles, Romita Sr. art first appearance Mary Jane Watson, 90s Jim Lee Cyclops with an optic blast accessory, classic Luke Cage, a John Byrne era scaly-chainmail Captain America with a smiling head since every Cap figure in recent years have have serious/angry/constipated-looking face sculpts, and the many, many, many other wish-listed items I've repeated here over the last few months and repeated online for the past few years). For more modern stuff, I'm not as interested in most Gamerverse figures (and I still can't get excited by the upcoming Avengers game and still think the suits/graphics look terrible), it's buy-or-pass when it comes to which M.C.U. characters are made into figures, and I'll get excited by classic Marvel movie figures like the Fox-Men and (fingers crossed) Sony Spider-Man trilogy when I see who/what is made. Finally, after seeing the Rogue and Pyro two-pack, I'm personally going to pass. Pyro doesn't look as good as I'd hoped he would, the paint doesn't look as good, and the new Rogue is from an era I didn't like. I still think there are a good chunk of Toy Biz Marvel Legends figures hold up well. Maybe not as well compared to Hasbro's Marvel Legends in most cases recently (and everyone can agree that every Hasbro Legend looks better than Toy Biz's Toad), but the paint apps usually were very good, the articulation and accessories were good, and they had pretty good sculpting. Figures like Pyro, the Green Goblin and Captain America (with straps inside his shield, which aren't usually found these days with most Cap figures) still look as good to me now as they did then. Personally, for now, if we don't get any more reveals for a while considering COVID put a wrench in everything and their planned-for-this-year waves like Eternals got delayed/pushed back, I won't be too upset. I'm still thrilled that my older sister surprised me with pre-ordering the rest of the vintage/retro Spider-Man wave figures I couldn't get (Spider-Man, Green Goblin and Mysterio, respectively). My sister is awesome. Thanks for reading my rant and I hope you all have a great day. Stay safe, everyone. |

When it comes to collecting, Im one of those with limited space and resources, thus I try to keep to only figures I really really want. I also make sure to pass along any unwanted figure or doubles I have to buy to my nephews, who are very Marvel obsessed, and its a lot of fun to share with them.
I originally started with 3 3/4" X-men from Marvel Universe (along with making my own customs), moved on to a joint MOTUC (mainly She-ra) collection with my fiance, and eventually started a Marvel Legends collection (mostly mine, but we grab any characters he wants too. Its so nice when we get to share excitment over a particular figure even though collecting is an interest that is mostly mine). With ML it started mostly with mine and my fiance's favorite MCU characters, but over the last couple years I have fallen for the ML X-men figures. I missed out on early waves like the Jubilee BAF and Juggernaught BAF waves, but have been grabbing up my favorites ever since. I try to stick to only one of each character, but do get multiple looks for Scarlet Witch and Storm since they are our favorites. My fiance has been loving all the Storms lately! I even just this year started making myself some 6" customs! Ive done an Okoye, painted the hair for my Cuckoos, and started a Wolfsbane, a body for the Black Queen head, and an adult Layla Miller (since I dont see Hasbro making one anytime soon if ever). Though my painting still needs some work. I really need to stop rushing the layers, lol! I am super excited for the Rogue Pyro 2 pack as I actually want both figures (though Im gonna mod that Rogue to make my favorite look)! Very glad it was an easy to get fan channel exclusive. So, today was a good news day to me. Last edited by Mimicboy; 08-03-2020 at 02:55 PM.. |

I always try to remind myself that Marvel is a franchise with hundreds, if not thousands of characters and that Hasbro is a business that doesn't have an unlimited output.

And I say this with some hypocrisy, I know I'm known for heavily pushing certain characters to get made, and having my wishlists. But I definitely don't decry getting the figures we are getting, with maybe a few exceptions. These last 5 years, since 2016 have been the golden age for not only X-Men fans but Marvel Legends in general. If they keep this going another five years who knows what all we'll end up with. I mean, a year ago, did anyone expect we'd have Shiklah, Black Tom, Selene, Wild Child and Spymaster this year? They do dig deep. |
