I really feel like people who love Tobey are doing so under nostalgia and not because he was a great Spider-Man. Don't get me wrong, he was a good Peter Parker (well, except when it came to showing the brilliant scientist side of Peter), but his Spider-Man was lackluster.
Which, I think we can all agree, needed a change. That era is long gone.

Liking Tobey as Spider-Man has nothing to do with nostalgia, at least for me. He was/ is the embodiment of the silver age Spidey, and had a quiet charm to boot! The movies hold up as well, because you can tell they were made with love, and not as a puzzle piece for a big movie tapestry like the MCU Spidey or Garfield's Spidey. I'd never tell people that like Godfather, Goodfellas, Clockwork Orange, Casablanca, etc... that they're being blinded by nostalgia, even though those movies do nothing for me haha

I saw 1 in person at Target 3 weeks ago and passed. It doesn't look cool enough to be an IM armor in the White they selected. It is flat and dull looking. I ordered the new blue gamerverse which looks a heck of a lot better.

However, Holland is by far closer to Stan Lee's Peter in personality, nerdiness, and science geek than Maquire and Garfield. Quote:

Um... that was never retconned in, that was something Claremont did early on when he showed her working for Shadow King.
As for her backstory being stereotypical, frankly, it's fictional, so I don't care one bit. Not to mention she is such a well written character that she goes beyond the stereotypes. She's basically to Marvel what Apu is to The Simpsons. A well developed, fully fleshed out, strong character who overcomes the stereotypes by being well written. Ha! I love it! |

Jamie Foxx confirmed that he was indeed playing Electro in MCU Spider-Man but said he won't be blue.
So it seems like it's a different version of the character, just with the same actor. |

As your response to my comments demonstrates. As I pointed out, you're pretty much indulging in a dictionary-perfect example of "First World Problems," attacking people who were, by the standards of the time, ardent liberals, doing ardently liberal things like presenting an integrated, international, interracial team of superheroes, because one character isn't as blandly, snooze-inducingly perfect as you want her to be.
Bonus: ARDENT - nice lexical expansion on what I usually see from you! You get a nickel from the PSAT bank You dug deep on that one...but I have to take 3 cents back for lack of effort in that you repeated the word and only changed it slightly by converting it into an adjective. You could have gone with something like "unequivocally" that second time around, which would have netted you a full dime and offered variety to the reader... Quote:

If you want to argue that the racial politics involved in Beetz's casting didn't contribute to the sequence of events that resulted in an inexperienced stuntwoman being killed because she was hired on the basis of her race rather than her suitability for the job, then you have no grounds to criticize anyone on the basis of "logic."
Hey, just food for thought, it takes a really stilted and insular perspective to try to twist that scenario into an anti-affirmative action argument. It's really not good for the soul. If you don't subscribe to individuals having souls? Then it's not a healthy outlook if you want to continue to evolve as a human - aka an intellectual dead end. Quote:

Not a fan of the "Deviation" from the Kirby designs but I understand why they did it.
