I like the Apocalypse wave, but IMO they could have done a better job with Psylocke, and the Multi-Man with that ten year old jacket was kind effortless on Hasbro’s part, and giving us another Gladiator was great, but no creativity on Hasbro part to put in a new figure even with using the same body mold, and while Apocalypse is a great BAF, his articulation could have been better...But to each us own, Storm and Wolverine were the standout this wave, like Mags, but that color scheme is funky to me,

Anyone else notice several figures in the legends line have lost calf articulation? Looks like dwight is at it again....this time taking aim at legends. Can we please get rid of this guy before he kills legends like he killed mu?

There could be the factor of the Killmonger set being Target exclusive that might prevent it from ever going that cheap.

And even on some where they took out the calf articulation (Taskmaster from the Giant-Man wave, Moon Knight, Gwenpool), they did include a new swivel joint in the ankle (which is functionally the same without sacrificing the aesthetic)

I dunno. I picked up the target 3 pack warbird cap radioactive man for 15 and the west coast vision, ultron and greaser hulk for 12 and those were three packs. Hell i got that war machine disco inferno armor set for 9 bucks. It could go that route and target could pull a wal mart and never lower it further like those damn doomsday wave figs haha. Though they were quick to clearance other exclusives. Only time will tell.

Which ones? I haven't really noticed it outside of Pizza Spidey-based figures. I know a lot of the female body-types are missing them, but that's been long-standing.

Nine bucks!!! Are you kidding me?! I slept on that two pack for the longest time. Never saw it go below $28 at retail and after it sold out at stores, the third party market had it at over $40. Finally pulled the trigger when I found it at $30 last month. I feel comfortable with what I paid but $9 bucks is unbelievable. Please tell me you bought it a long time ago.

Whats worse is one wal mart may clearance some and get new in ( rarely in my area ) but most just shuffled the doomed four around the ever shrinking action figure aisles.

I don't think what you mentioned is gonna kill Legends. What will kill Legends though is fatigue, double dipping, and the shoddy way exclusives are set up and cases are packed/ labeled for ordering. Many figs are exclusives of Walmart for example, and truth be told, I'm actually seeing more and more Walmarts that don't carry Legends AT ALL since their last reset. No tags, no missing space, what was once there now filled by the 5poa titan figures or those little mini arcade cabinets that are all the rage. With TRU gone, Hasbro Toy Shop shutting its doors as a supplier next year, and Target still incapable of providing worthy competition, there's no need to. This is also the way Walmart pretty much strangled Legends out the first time, and I can see it happening again if Hasbro doesn't wisen up. Black Series is even worse. I have to scour Target, Walgreens, Walmart, Amazon, EE, DISNEY STORE and several others just to track down figures that shouldn't be that difficult to find. It's exhausting, and its killed my joy in collecting that line altogether. Once Grevious drops and my Figuarts Dooku arrives...I'm out for good because of the nonsense. Double dipping speaks for itself, and this next BP wave has three figures in it we pretty much already have. Black Series will soon be following this pattern as well with their upcoming Archive line. As for fatigue...it's real. I have been finding myself walking away Legends figures in stores because I'm saying to myself...do I really need another BP figure? And to consider the alternative, the super niche characters whose names come up on these threads time and time again that have me scratching my head saying "SRSLY? Did that person seriously just suggest Sugar Man would fly off of shelves?"...when 90 to 95 percent of the general toy buying population would have no idea who the **** that is... (Looking at you SPY/DRP and Bonecrusher!) I don't look at my collection saying "Damn...I really need a Rocket Racer for my shelf...why is Hasbro not making it!?! " Nah...I'm good. The Peni that came with that SP//DR wouldn't look any more out of place style wise than Panda does. Just the articulation is minimal.

She's about as big as a 6yr old compared to even a small Legend like Miles. Peni is supposed to be a 4'11 HighSchool student (probably just a grade or so below Miles and Gwen)so no... the little Peni figure that comes with SP//dr definitely doesn't work for me.

ideally what I want is someone about 10-12cm tall (just around Miles' shoulder) Panda fits the size and aesthetic of Legends that works for me- even looking a little cartoony- but i would prefer something more physically shaped like Peni. Spiderverse went for a pretty small anime look-so i wouldn't mind finding a figma or something that fits the bill- but the kid's figure of Peni is about 1/2 as tall as i want her to be.

Are you talking about in the comics or the movie? In the movie she was drawn anime style, so she is going to look way younger and she was quite small in that.

I'm not seeing a loss. Many of those figures are kitbashed or are retoolings of figures that never had that spot of articulation to begin with. Most MCU figures don't have that as an articulation point anyways, as they sacrifice it in favor of a clean sculpt.

And it seems like they're already going to be doing it going into next year with MCU Captain Marvel within the same wave. Does a bomber jacket and a different facial expression really justify releasing the same character twice within a wave? Meh. Last edited by SymbiSpidey; 12-18-2018 at 08:45 AM.. |

it's got to be a blend... something that is Legends style of the movie character that still evokes the true nature of the character... it's complicated. I'll know what it is when I see it.It's not Panda- it's not the kid-line Peni... (but Panda is much closer than the Peni figure)

I've been saying this for awhile. The BAF concept just doesn't work for those of us who cherry pick. I'd gladly pay more (maybe even double) for a larger character or one that comes with a lot of accessories.

As an aside, for all the hate that SP//dr seems to get, I sure as hell can't find anyone looking to part with the loose pieces to complete him. Sure, the ones I need come from the two least-wanted figures from the wave (Daredevil and House of M Spidey), but still, you'd think it'd be easier to find them. (Incidentally, if anyone is looking to part with the right arm and/or leg, hit me up for a sale/trade)

------------------- Regarding mold/character reuse, I think some of it is Hasbro trying to increase their bottom line. Management sees the line doing well and sees an easy corner to cut to increase profit. A deluxe line would work well I think, even tho I like BAFs. Kinda like the Vehicle packs they're doing now. Many characters/accesories could be released like the Star Wars Black Series does it. But I would like them to also do large characters scaled closely to the 6" figures. Some could probably be used with the 12" line. Characters like Giant-Man, Goliath, etc. But it'd awesome if they did huge releases like Transformers titan series: Living Tribunal, Surtur, Shuma-Gorath, etc. |

The unfortunate reality is pretty much every wave is gonna have at least a few cheap kitbashes/repaints to cut costs. It's pretty much been that way since Hasbro first got the license and was already steadily becoming a thing in the final few ToyBiz waves.
I agree thought the character double dipping is becoming irritating. There's no reason one of the Captain Marvels couldn't have just been someone else. |
