Well, that was easier than I worried it would be...
Around lunch time I hit PopFindr and saw that my nearest Target had 3 of the Storm/Thunderbird set in-stock (they had 0 when the day started). I called the store but no one ever answered. When I wrapped up my workday I called again. Same deal. So I decided to just trek on down anyhow. Sure enough, they had two left on the shelf. Not the cleanest paint apps, but I grabbed the best of the two. I'm just glad to have 'em. Quote:
1) HasbroPulse's customer service is the bee's knees; very informed on the product, very helpful, and very accommodating.
2) According to the rep, the HFC pack will be shipping any day now for premium members who ordered during the early access period. 3) The Hellfire goons should be shipping starting 10/1. Back to Storm. It's funny this is being called FA Storm. As I recall, this is the first appearance of Storm : Last edited by tierneygreen; 09-29-2020 at 03:58 PM.. |

I’ve joked before but i didn’t think they would ever make a FIRST first appearance Storm.
Off topic dorkside charged me for the rogue/pyro pack. Cross another off the list! |

Just checked my account to see if Dorkside has charged me, but nothing yet. This Rogue/Pyro pack is my biggest want at the moment. Hopefully it happens soon |

Seeing that "FA" Storm reminds me of how many negative African stereotypes were imbedded in the character (intentional, or not) from the very start. Outside of her long shock of straight white hair and her blue eyes (I still chuckle at that), her introduction as barefoot and topless harkens to some of the worst depictions of native cultures made all too familiar in antiquated tomes like National Geographic.
The tropes don't stop with just her physical appearance, or her liberation from a 'primitive' existence by savior Charles Xavier, but extend to writers retconning her cringe-worthy backstory further to include a past that featured her as a poor orphaned child who was manipulated/trafficked into becoming a street-thief. Now I understand there was some small effort to demonstrate that she came from loving parents, but when you juxtapose those slight nods with the other grating elements, well, it becomes hard to justify. Funny how a title heralded for its allegories to elements and figures from the American civil rights struggle, with themes revolving around acceptance/tolerance of differences - all of which being true about the X-men - can still represent some ugly silliness at the core of character creation. Now don't misunderstand, I dig Storm very much as a character and have celebrated her throughout the years. However, as a person of color with a sense for both history and perspective, certain things just can't be unseen. Not bashing, nor am I trying to stir up shit as I'm a firm believer in accepting the pop-culture I've consumed throughout my life warts and all. I'm just expressing a viewpoint that I want better, more organic character creation that doesn't rely on off-putting devices. Last edited by TheBlueMarvel; 09-29-2020 at 05:59 PM.. |

Sorry man, as I've told you before, I don't speak 'meme'.
...but real talk, that woman is a human being like any other worthy of respect by virtue of that simple fact, so, yeah, I don't find that video offensive nor repulsive. Yeah, I know, different view points can be pretty terrifying and necessitate nonsensical and cliched retorts. You don't really strike me as someone that cares about 2nd, 3rd, or 4th world problems for that matter. Weren't you the one who suggested that Zazie Beetz being cast as Domino cost a stuntwoman her life then disappeared from the thread for months after being run out of here? With that kind of logic, it's just hard for me to take you seriously... |

Wasn't Storm's white hair and blue eyes addressed in world by Misty Knight at one point?

I'm curious to know what that might have been...some triple recessive gene, I'm sure. *Rolls eyes*

As far as I recall it's from her mother's side of the family. I remember that Storm was one of the last of the new characters they designed and originally she had cat powers

Got 2 Movie Wolverines, 2 Movie Dominos, and 2 Old Man Logan and Hawkeye sets at Target. Once again like yesterday I made sure to get the best paint apps and digital printing on the faces.

It's mostly wishful thinking, dude...with a bit of light hearted ribbing.
The fan vote Silk figure features new box art that I was (mostly baselessly) speculating might portend the arrival of numerous pictured characters. There were two Celestials pictured off in the distance... While I wanted the Haslab Sentinel to be a Galactus project and I would take either Galan, or the Stranger before anything else had I my druthers...I would also pick up any Celestial without hesitation. As for her backstory being stereotypical, frankly, it's fictional, so I don't care one bit. Not to mention she is such a well written character that she goes beyond the stereotypes. She's basically to Marvel what Apu is to The Simpsons. A well developed, fully fleshed out, strong character who overcomes the stereotypes by being well written.

Apparently Jocasta is arriving Friday. With Gamerverse wave 2 hitting now, it's possible that Spidey wave is going to be showing up in time for the Holidays

Yeah, I pre-ordered Kang on Dorkside but I was just checking Amazon and they suddenly claim the entire wave is estimated to arrive TODAY.

Buy one to stock, buy one to rock!

Cool. The Magneto and Professor X sets weren’t put out yet. One guy there wasn’t interested in the Storm and Thunderbird set and only bought a Deadpool and NTW set. I need to make a custom middle finger hand for Movie Mystique. Hope to find Movie Wolverine in store with good paint apps and no marks on his face. Haslab Barge is 48 inches. If Galactus is 36 inches. Then the Celestials maybe 48 inches. As big as the Barge! Having the Barge - I can't imagine - having 10 huge HasLab Celestials.
It's best for space + scale, to keep the Celestials as Roleplay helmets.. |
