attachment 2010 Hasbro GI Joe Q And A Round 2 Answers
The Toyark has just received our answers from the 2nd round of Hasbro's 2010 GI Joe Q &A.

1) Since City Strike Scarlett was canceled, will the parts molded for this figure be used for a forthcoming Pursuit of Cobra figure, or perhaps a GI Joe Renegades figure?
A) We like the suggestions but we have no plans for this right now. We'll keep it in mind!

2) Are retailers reluctant to order female GI Joe figures? We've noticed a lack of female figures in recent and forthcoming GI Joe lines
A) We will always produce female figures, but the variety depends on the current storyline.

Jedi_Master_Ben:
Is it possible to get the now canceled City Strike Scarlett into the spring POC line? Maybe as an exclusive if not for the main line? Even if you had to swap out the head with something like Helix head and call her City Strike Helix, or add a whole new head sculpt of lets say Jinx or a new character, just so we can get that awesome base figure sculpt and those fantastic accessories. It would be a shame to let something this cool fade into plastic oblivian.
Aheld92:
any chane of seeing a larger variety of female characters we still have yet to see figures of Jinx, classic Cover Girl, and Zarana
ferndog1980:
I would just like Road Pig, snow Serpent V2, Desert Scorpion, Annihilator, Gung Ho (Marine), The Fridge, and the Tomax/Xamot in suites, in 25th anniversary style. Any chance of any of these figures getting on the table of production?
ryogam:
What is going on with the Snow-cat/Wolfhound deco? We're now seeing released versions with black marbleized chassis but pure white missile launchers, which seems to be the worst possible deco choice Hasbro could make. Why isn't the whole vehicle either marbleized or pure white? Isn't /Hasbro worried about releasing a vehicle which looks so differently from it's box art? Is there any hope of a running change that will get us a pure white Wolf-hound?

  • Tomax/Xamot in suits: Highest chance is an exclusive of some sort.
  • Fridge: Most likely dependent on if royalties/use of likeness costs.
  • The others I'm not sure, but Desert Scorpion is going to be included with one of the mechs for 2011.
Johnnyakiba:
Will Renegades take over for the Pursuit line? OR will both Pursuit and Renegade be in tandem.

All going to depend on how Pursuit Of Cobra does at retail and if retailer demands can be satisfied by reintroducing and/or continuing POC alongside Renegades.

I would love to think that it will do well. There are ton's of reasons why I think it will. Pakaging, Character selection, and decent advertisement. Plus the hype of a non 25th series is actually getting me a bit excited.

I would love to see some "real world" adventures of our favorite 25th characters!!....SPEAKING OF WHICH...SCI-FI? WTF would he look like in this line.
cinemajay:
Has Hasbro been having issues getting product to retail? I've noticed bare pegs in Target and Wal-mart for more than 3 weeks now for Star Wars and Marvel Universe toys. As of today, shelves are literally bare. When will the new Vintage series (SW) arrive in stores and we seem to be several waves behind in Marvel Universe with wave 6 having never shown up (in my area at least).
Johnnyakiba:
Man. They really play their cards close to the chest...My question was dashed!!

But, SDCC is only a few days away...soo...I guess we will know Hasbro's plans one way or another.

The Fall reset is taking place at all retailers across the U.S. things especially suck here in MD. TRU, Target and Walmart aren't getting in new stock until September. I'm sure things will pick up just in time for Christmas with all of the movie related toys that came out this year as well as TRON Legacy toys that will get a front endcap at all major retailers across the U.S. in December.
Ash Talon:
1. If Stalker's codename is keeping him from having more figures, why not give him a new codename? Something like or featuring "Hunter" perhaps?

2. Even though Pursuit of Cobra is likely to fade away when Renegades takes over, is it possible to see the new HISS and VAMP repainted in different color schemes (ala desert VAMP and urban HISS).

3. Why was the dual-laser cannon arm from the Sigma 6 Iron Hammer not utilized for any of the 4 POC mechs? It's arguably the most realistic-looking weapon for the mech.

4. One of the best improvements the Anniversay line brought to the table was working holsters with removable pistols. These started to phase out during the Rise of Cobra line and are also missing on most Pursuit of Cobra figures as well. Why the lack of working holsters for recent Joe figures?

5. Is it possible to incorporate more personality references on filecards? As of now, they only speak about a character's role on the team but fail to provide any character personality traits for kids to incorpate into their play patterns. The little bit of description for characters fueled my imagination as a kid and offered a springboard for further adventures for my Joes and Cobras.

Yeah for classic vehicles, I think vintage is the way to go at this point. If you don't, you may be hoping for a re-release of a vehicle from your childhood only to find yourself a few years later still without seeing it. For 30th, your guess is as good as mine. Bear in mind, GI Joe 2 may be in 2012, and Renegades will have been on the air for a while by then too. Will 30th get pushed to the side like 25th/Modern Era did in 2009, in favor of Joe toylines with media tie-ins? Who knows.
Evantainment:
I really hope we see some acknowledgement of the 30th anniversary. A whole line would be preferable, but at the very least, I hope there's some kind of box set.

They are working on something but that's the only thing they've said.

Great answers this time around, and glad to hear Renegades will be the same style as POC!

Steevy Maximus:
What prompted the selection of Blowtorch and Croc Master to receive new repaints in the upcoming Pursuit of Cobra waves? Both seem to be odd selections compared to other potential repaints.

Hasbro has produced some impressive new figures that ended up released on either store exclusives or multipacks (the cartoon colored BAT, the 2008 Joe and Cobra 5 packs, the Rise of Cobra TRU exclusive Snow Serpent, even Lt. Falcon in a comic pack). Has the potential of rereleasing some of these figures in the single figure assortment been pursued? Possibly a fan vote?
Shin Densetsu:
Good questions Steevy!
Jmacq1:
Have the third wave of Alpha Vehicles (HISS Scout and Cycle Armor) and second wave of Mechs officially been canceled or can we still expect to find these at retail in the coming months?

Retail support for the Joe line seems to be at a very low point right now, with many Wal-Marts not carrying the line, Target not carrying Bravo vehicles, and some product seemingly skipping mainstream retail channels altogether and going straight to closeout retailers like Ross. Has this affected the plans for the line in 2011 and beyond?
roadkillblues:
are you going to import POC to Mexico? there are loyal fans llike me that are eager to see them in stores

A) We have to be very careful about releasing exclusives in mainline. One of the reasons that we can call them exclusives is the fact that they can't be found anywhere else. While we may release similar figures and vehicles, the chances are you won't see the same ones as in the exclusive packs.
They can always rerelease the exclusives as exclusives to another store. They've done this several times in the past couple of years with Star Wars figure packs, where Wal-Mart exclusives turned into Toys R Us exclusives a year later with the newer style packaging designs Hasbro was using at the time.
Shin Densetsu:
Next round of questions due Monday, so BUMP and post questions NAO!
Deathx360:
Since no one else has posted I will have a go at it. I hope it isn't too late.

1.)The San Diego Comic Con Sgt. Slaughter was produced in very limited quantities and being a highly demanded figure was hard to come by. Can we expect the same for Zarana and the Starscream Skystricker?

2.)Figures in the Pursuit of Cobra line have been broken down into themes. Can we expect this to continue and possible expand upon it with some of the franchises sub-groups like Tiger Force, Sky Patrol, Night Force, Python Patrol, etc.?

3.)We've seen the repaint of the H.I.S.S. V5 as a Crimson H.I.S.S. but can we expect to see remolds of the newer vehicles like new weapons (example a missile launcher to turn the V.A.M.P. into a Stinger).

4.)There is always a lot of talk about characters that fans would like to see updated. Does some of this play into how you decide who to update and how do you decide which old character to update?

5.)When designing a new mold do you consider how that figures parts can be used for future figures or is it more of and after thought, just picking parts for characters from existing molds that might work?

6.)In the past few years we've seen new molds being used for exclusives at SDCC and not being reused. Can we expect this to continue?

7.)Will the 30th Anniversary be like the 25th with a heavy focus on the ARAH line or will we see more characters and designs taken from IDW, the SpyTroops line, and maybe even Sigma 6?

8.)The Joes haven't had many troop builders but in recent years we have gotten the Green Shirts, various Pit Commandos, and the upcoming Steel Brigade. Have you thought about beefing up the Joe Team with more troop builders or are you focusing more on the individuals?

9.)For the first four waves of Pursuit of Cobra we haven't had any variant figures like with the 25th Anniversary line but waves five and six will. Will we see more in the future?

10.)Why is the Pursuit of Cobra H.I.S.S. designated Version 5? The G.I. Joe vs. Cobra H.I.S.S. has the designation of Version 4 but the Direct to Customer H.I.S.S. which was also a new mold has no such designation but would be implied to be the fifth version. Was this version of the H.I.S.S. overlooked or was the H.I.S.S. III retconed out?

Backdrops to the Joe Universe historically have come to us with playsets. Recently Hasbro gave us the added bonus of backgrounds in the packaging which could be easily shaped and formed into diorama's. My son and I love the playsets and backdrops, but we also like the other small things Hasbro has added to the figures by means of accessories. These items have really helped flesh out the fantasy universe: tiki masks, bear traps, constantina wire, bomb robots, etc... Trust me, there is a lot. For example, when I though I didn't need another snake eyes, you see one with a new mask packaged with him, making it a must have. What is the thought process behind the accessories we get wich don't necessarily have to be character specific, and with the way some pieces are being released are we seeing an unnoficial "build-a-playset" without knowing or realizing it?

why did wave 4 cases not see a canadian card release? this has severely reduced the number of wave 4 figures available to canadians. wave 4 cases where 3 of each of the 4 figures. the US carded revision cases being sold in canada don't have destro or shadow tracker. did you not take this into consideration when deciding not to give us wave 4 cases?

Wouldnt that be the stores fault for not ordering and distributing or displaying them? If anything, maybe Hasbro needs to start putting out commercials to ramp up more interest in their toy lines like the 30th anniversary GI Joe line, Marvel Universe and whatever other toy lines they are producing. I dont remember seeing any GI Joe toy commercials in a very long time or any Marvel commercials.
I would like to see a wider range of GI Joe figures made with more POC styled older figures as well.

Have you considered allowing all future convention exclusives to be available for preorder before the event? They were on HasbroToyShop so it would not be a further contradiction of the term "exclusive" by makeing them available beforehand. There are many loyal GiJoe collectors that get burned by being too far from San Diego or not having enough computers in one room to place an order on Tuesday morning at 11:45 am.

I am sorry I can't get past this and I know it may be getting old. They may have already answered a question like this for all I know. But this is the only big issue I have right now. The new figures and packaging looks great. The designs and accessories are awesome .
I had all the Joe exclusives in my cart multiple times before noon on that Tuesday in July but the site would not let me proceed to checkout. Now how many Joe collectors feel like they missed out by not getting Sgt. Slaughter, Pimp Destro, Rowdy Roddy Piper, and Zarana at a fair price?
Please consider submitting my first question even if it needs to be re-phrased.

The 30th Anniversary and Renegade figures have been appearing at US retail now, but from what I know, they haven't been spotted at Canadian retail yet. Any plans to improve distribution for these new series of Joe figures for Canadian retail?

Is it possible to retool the new sky striker so that the wings can sweep without retractiing the landing gear?
tlasjr:
Reccently small numbers of the Iron Man 2 Mandarin wave have been showing up at discount retailers. Is this retailer stock liquidation or direct from Hasbro, and if direct why not sell the figures on Hasbro Toy shop so they are available to all instead of sold at a discounted price to scalpers who then charge six times retail?
JustryGT:
Thanks for summarizing my question.
I firmly believe that pre-orders during an item's production will not hurt the sales of the additional thousands produced for show attendees only.
Darkspeed:
Many thanks for posting the answers there, Shin... Kinda disappointing about the lack of commitment of the Renegades question though. So far the only way I've managed to find them is in overpriced comic book stores, so I hope I can see them at regular retail soon!

Dumb ass fucking Hasbro sons of bitches think they are to damn good to give a god damn fucking answer. Corporate fucking whore mongering sluts. An answer is "whenver your county orders, we will ship" or some fucked up lame answer than that is fucking more respectful than no answer at all, fucking mother fuckers.

I am expecting some sort of action to be taken against my post but I don't really give a shit, nothing pisses me off more than not giving an answer at all.

I've noticed that JoeCon and club member exclusives work very differently than Hasbro SDCC exclusives. I would not make suggestions to change they way those real exclusives are sold.
Most SDCC exclusives are sold at Hasbrotoyshop.com so they are not entirely exclusive. If you read a few post back, I touched on this a little. So I think someone could ask Hasbro ;
Why not just call them SDDC premier items, or SDCC commemorative items? Something like that.
Solrac333:
(sigh) I didn't even think of ordering Zaranna from them. Shoot!
Waspinator:
I asked Hasbro about taking preorders for SDCC items at NYCC. The rep. I spoke too said they discussed it but in order to keep the items available at the convention, they cannot sell anything in advance.

I do understand the purpose of a convention item but it still sucks. Esp. with scalpers cashing in...

Regarding the current and upcoming line up of GI Joe Renegade figures, where did the decision come from to release early characters like Airtight, Firefly and Law & Order - Good looking figures, but with relatively small roles in the show - Than focus on more central characters like Destro, Baroness or Roadblock?

Wow, really? You do know that we (collectors) are not their target demographic right? We make up, IIRC, between 4-7% of their sales (it might be less then that), they could cut out all of the "collector lines" and still make money hand over fist. I feel any line that is geared to the collector is a godsend. While I agree that an answer for things is nice, they can't answer them all.

3) The 30th Anniversary line features figures of Renegades characters who didn't appear much in the show(Air Tight, Law and Order for example), compared to Destro, Roadblock and The Baroness. We realize that tooling could've been a cost issue, especially since Roadblock would've required a bigger body. Are characters with unique tooling viable for upcoming 7 packs?
3A: You are correct! We had to work very hard to manage costs within in the 20th Anniversary line which required us to make some tough decisions on figure choices and tooling usage. The 2012 movie line will use some new tooling in order to provide more movie accuracy. There are currently no plans for additional 7-packs in 2012.
Good see an answer here, thanks for that Shin! Figured it would be down to costs, but still disappointed there's no commitment to seeing the other Renegade characters in toy form soon. Guess they're gearing up for the next movie now...
Snowflakian:
I hope they find a place for the cycle armors. I want at least 2 of them, probably 3.
2 to get Renegades cobra commander full mask heads, and one to get the zombie-viper helmet.

I'm also sad for no Renegades Baroness or Jinx. They could have used the same lower arms even. Then Jynx would just need Wraith armor and the zombie viper helmet. and baroness could have been done with a different coated female body that can be reused for other stuff later. Or just a coat piece that goes over the Scarlet body similiar to how cobra commanders coat skirt works.
