The 1/18 IRIAF F-14A Tomcat is set for release in autumn of this year.
In Iranian service, the F-14A Tomcat first served with the Iranian Air Force, and then with the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force after the Iranian Revolution. While the official kill count for the US Navy's F-14's in air to air combat has been 5-0(2 SU-22's, 2 MIG-23's, 1 Mi-8 Hip helicopter), the kill count in Iranian service has been exponentially higher, although the exact figures are hard to verify. Kills accounted for include gun kills and kills with the AIM-54 Phoenix missle(the only combat kills on record for this missle), the longest range air to air missle in service at the time.
The IRIAF still maintains a fleet of aging F-14A Tomcats, and have new camouflage with distinct shades of gray(and some hints of blue). The S2 scheme is of the initial paint scheme worn by the IRIAF Tomcats in the 80's. This is also the more recognizable paint scheme of the 2. Will JSI retool the Tomcat to be more accurate for the S2 paint scheme? The IRIAF Tomcats are older block F-14A's produced in the late 70's, whereas the JSI S1 Jolly Rogers release last December used the a much later block number F-14A mold. As noted previously, that mold is only accurate for squadrons such as VF-41 Black Aces and VF-154 Black Knights prior to their transition to the F/A-18F Super Hornet. | | Credit: warbirdmodelle | Views: 530 | | | Posted on 12-17-2009 at 12:58 PM by Shin Densetsu under Military Toy News. | The Toyark has just received a new press release announcing the upcoming A Team line by Jazzwares! JAZWARES™ SELECTED BY TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX LICENSING & MERCHANDISING TO CAPTURE THE EXPLOSIVE ACTION OF THE UPCOMING MOTION PICTURE EVENT
THE A-TEAM WITH PREMIERE LINE OF LICENSED PRODUCTS
Jazwares, Inc. Awarded Toy License for the Upcoming Feature Film
SUNRISE, FL - November X, 2009 - Jazwares™, a leader in the licensed products marketplace, has been tapped by Twentieth Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising (Fox Licensing) to develop an extensive toy line for the upcoming feature film The A-Team. The launch of the Jazwares product line, which includes action figures in various sizes, vehicles, and electronics, will coincide with the movie's release in June 2010.
"The release of The A-Team film will introduce a new generation of fans to the heroes of the popular series," said Laura Zebersky, executive vice president sales, Jazwares. "The A-Team is a part of pop culture history and we look forward to playing a role in its return."
"Jazwares is part of the ‘A-Team’ of licensees we’ve assembled to work on the merchandising program for this fantastic property," said Lora Cohn, VP of Fox Licensing. "We are confident that both old and new fans alike will be pleased by what Jazwares introduces to retail.”
The Jazwares toy line will include 3 ¾” action figures in an A-Team assortment and villain assortment, 12" B.A. Baracus and Hannibal Smith collector figures with voice chips, an electronic A-Team van for the 3 ¾” figures, plus other retailer exclusive packs. THE A-TEAM follows the exciting and daring exploits of Hannibal Smith and his colorful team of former Special Forces soldiers who were set up for a crime they did not commit. Going “rogue,” they utilize their unique talents – and eccentricities – to try and clear their names and find the true culprit. THE A-TEAM hits everywhere June 11, 2010.
Liam Neeson, whose many credits include the Oscar-winning “Schindler’s List” and the recent box office hit “Taken,” portrays Hannibal Smith, a master planner of inventive missions requiring split-second timing, unusual skills and a team of incredibly proficient and …eccentric.. soldiers; Bradley Cooper, who shot to movie superstardom in the smash comedy “The Hangover,” is Templeton “Face” Peck, who can procure anything for the Team’s unorthodox and daring activities; Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, a professional mixed martial artist and a top rated UFC light heavyweight, is B.A. Baracas, the Team’s driver and muscle; and Sharlto Copley, who stars in the surprise summer hit “District 9,” is H.M “Howling Mad” Murdock, a gifted pilot – and certified loon. Jessica Biel (“The Illusionist”) stars as Capt. Charisa Sosa, a former love interest of Face’s, but who’s now relentlessly pursuing the Team for a crime not of their doing. Patrick Wilson (“Watchmen”) is Lynch, a mysterious CIA operative who is a key player in the Team’s most explosive mission.
Joe Carnahan (“Narc,” “Smokin’ Aces”) directs from a screenplay by Skip Woods (“X-Men Origins: Wolverine”), Carnahan, and Carnahan’s writing partner Brian Bloom (writing credit not final), based on the television series “The A-Team.” The producers are Ridley Scott, Tony Scott, Jules Daly, Stephen J. Cannell, Alex Young, Iain Smith, and Spike Seldin.

This Tomcat, one of only 250 produced for the entire world, has been confirmed to us and we expect to be shipping these lighted versions out to their lucky owners on Tuesday. These unique aircraft will go out several days ahead of the standard models currently mired in US Customs. I asked for and was granted a few extra planes so if you haven't called or emailed for one, now is the time. These should be fun!! | | Credit: Tales of The Cat | Views: 657 | | | Posted on 12-02-2009 at 03:35 PM by Shin Densetsu under Military Toy News. | Merit International has posted images of the production model JSI 1/18 F-14A Tomcat VF-84 Jolly Rogers version. We saw images of these models being assembled not too long ago, and now you can see how they turned out!
The JSI F-14A Tomcat is hopefully the 1st of many modernized model jets in 1/18 scale. The F-14 Tomcat was retired in 2006 but it still has legions of fans, some of which have been asking for a 1/18 F-14 Tomcat for the past few years. That request will soon become a reality as these Tomcats are set to arrive stateside this month!

Cockpit lighting, nav lights, and faux exhaust illumination are included at the price of $280 compared to $230 for the standard model. Instead of the name of the carrier printed on the side of the fuselage, it will read the name of the show. If you are interested in this model, let us know and we'll try to get some.
The photos in question were taken down earlier today. It looks like some, if not all of the 250 limited edition 1/18 F-14A Tomcat models will be painted in VF-84 Jolly Rogers colors. The possibility of LEDs was looked into months back, so look at this as a test run of sorts. JSI is also willing to do custom work, as Toyark boards member Sapphireneonut has commissioned them to make a custom 1/18 F-14A Tomcat.
*UPDATE* Foxhole Toys chimed in at Small Scale Headquarters with additional information: The Special Edition Tomcat will be available to all vendors at the first annual Christmas "A Weekend of Heroes" show in California on December 5th. Any outstanding pieces will then be made available to dealers on the 6th who have purchased the regular F-14.
Just what exactly the 'extras' will be is unknown but we are told by Merit more information will be coming soon.
Cheers! | | Credit: Tales Of The Cat, Foxhole Toys | Views: 514 | | | Posted on 11-18-2009 at 10:01 PM by Shin Densetsu under Military Toy News. | Yesterday, AMERICAN_GRENADIER over at the Small Scale Military Headquarters mentioned that JSI would be making a special edition 1/18 F-14 Tomcat, limited to 250 pieces and carrying an MSRP of $280. Today, Foxhole Toys confirmed this: Hi Gang!
We can confirm this latest JSI info and the $280 MSRP American Grenadier announced.
These pieces were to go (did go?) to Hobby shows showcasing JSI & Merit. We and other retailers have been offered these pieces at a much higher price which in turn costs the consumer more as well.
I'm sure more info on what exactly the differences will be will come soon enough...and with photos.
Cheers and 'early' Happy Thanksgiving to ALL!
So what could this F-14 Tomcat be? Could it be a VF-84 Jolly Rogers version in one of the numerous paint schemes that the F-14A Tomcat was painted in over the years? A Bombcat 1/18 F-14B from the later VF-103 Jolly Rogers? A last cruise 1/18 F-14D Super Tomcat? A VF-154 Black Knights or VF-41 Black Aces Bombcat? Or perhaps it's a Jolly Rogers bird with the deck gear, crew, and vehicles shown at iHobby EXPO? The latter would certainly explain the increased price point. Post your guesses in the discussion by hitting the discuss button! | | Credit: AMERICAN_GRENADIER, Foxhole Toys | Views: 496 | | | Posted on 11-18-2009 at 09:32 PM by Shin Densetsu under Military Toy News. | Merit International has updated their site today with updated images of the JSI 1/18 F-14A Tomcat VF-84 Jolly Rogers in production now at the JSI factories. The largest and most ambitious 1/18 model to date by JSI, the 1/18 F-14A Tomcat features an abundant amount of detail and paint applications. Of course with the VF-84 Jolly Rogers version on it's way, it's often wondered what the next repaint or release will be.
Could it be a VF-154 Black Knights release? Or perhaps a VF-41 Black Aces bird? Both squadrons were some of the last to use the F-14A Tomcat in combat, and both did use it as a "Bombcat" during it's last years in service. Worth mentioning is that the mold itself is a late block F-14A, so the Black Knights and Black Aces later paint schemes are more accurate choices for production. *If JSI decides to retool the mold later on into an older block F-14A, it will be more accurate for numerous squadrons, and perhaps the SU-22 killer F-14A's from the Black Aces could be made*
The updated images show the following being assembled on the factory line:- Front landing gear
- Air intake
- Ejection Seats
- Cockpit instrument panels for pilot & RIO
- Randome assembly
- Cockpit side panel
- Speed brakes

For any of you doubting that the 1/18 F-14A Tomcat would ever be made, here's some proof! The images show the painting and pad printing at work.
Etailers have stated that the F-14A Tomcat by JSI should arrive stateside next month, so hopefully we will see this just in time for Christmas. Just be patient and know that unlike many ambitious 1/18 aircraft announced before that never materialized, this one is actually on it's way soon. According to Tales Of The Cat, Merit International announced their plans this weekend at iHobby EXPO: Distributor Merit Intl announced at the Ihobby show in Chicago that they are collaborating with JSI to build flight deck accessories for the 1:18 F-14 Tomcat. No dates or prices are available but these pieces will no doubt be appreciated by collectors of this scale. Interesting stuff!!
Flight deck crew and vehicles but no pilots? Not necessarily! JSI had informed us that they were working on new pilots and figures, as we reported here. In addition, Bad Cat Rob posted news that 1/18 F-14A Tomcat fans will surely be excited about: My sources tell me pilots for the F-14 are in development and should be here Q1.
So for those of you buying the JSI 1/18 F-14A Tomcat VF-84 Jolly Rogers, those cockpits won't be empty for too much longer!
