The worst thing happened today. Received all 5 of the new MU wave in the mail today, and couldn't have been less excited.
I mean, I used to get as giddy as a freakin little kid when I got new figs, but I felt this way with the Gigantic Battles as well? It's really disheartening because I have alot of fun collecting all of the Marvel/ Hasbro 3.75 lines. I'm attributing this lack of enthusiasm to a couple things. a. Joining ToyArk.com lol. Its an unbelieveable heads up/resource guide/ sharing the scoop type of place. Thats why Im in here 8 times a day. But the element of surprise is lost. 2 years ago, I had no idea what a pre-order was, or a wave..but now? Shoot I know about a figure 6 months before I can even touch it. b. Maybe it's just run it's course? Once upon a time I loved breakdancing, got tired of it. Once upon a time I liked the WWF, got tired of it. Once upon a time I liked rap music, etc etc etc. Maybe this is a stage on its last lap..which leads me to: c. To date minus the Deadpool/Taskmaster and Wolvie/ SSam 2-packs, I own every single figure of every single line plus variants MOC. What the hell do I do with all of them?? Sell? And get like 1/10th of their worth? Ya know? But it's like sh*t, I made it this far, why stop now? Its a Catch-22. Sorry for the babbling. Anyone else out there? Anyone else feel like they're just "going through the motions?" This is a real downer.

Comes and goes for me, but I know eventually if I ever sell them off, as a grouped lot they may net a decent price. So the monetary constraint doesn't bother me in the least.
What is bothering me though, is just not any figures to really get excited about being released lately except for taskmaster. Once the skaar wave hits I may start changing my tune, and I know for sure that once X-23, Dark Hawk, and Commander rogers hit I'll be back to stoked, but after that, it's just the Wonderman figure I'll be looking for and then back in the 'bleh' stages until Nova Prime, Scarlet Witch, Emma Frost, Beast, ASX Wolverine, Modern Quasar, X-Force Wolfsbane, and Uncanny X-Force archangel get made. For the time being though, I'm mostly just killing time until Darkhawks, and X-23(really hoping for an eventual maskless X-23 variant!) |

I have to say that whenever I get a shipment in I am like a kid on Christmas morning. I love it. The best thing about is the fact that my children sit down with me as well, as I always order them a special item or two whenever I order me something, can't have Daddy getting all the cool toys, you know. Sadly though that sometimes back fires as they like what Daddy got better. I have lost several figures that way.

Nah I kinda feel the same way with Marvel Universe. I started out a borderline completionist but last year, the constant reuse of a few bodies caught up to me and I got burned out. I was pretty vocal about it here too. I looked at the Gigantic Battles sets as disappointments after I bought them. The new ones look okay.
I got some excitement back when I found world war hulk and bleeding edge iron man at walmart. Rocker ankles and a more articulated Hulk. Are a step in the right direction. The newer figures look great for the most part.

Ive noticed, oddly enough...that I am more excited about the blue arc Iron Man 2 War Machine variant that I just scored than I am about the new MU's! ah well...to sit and complain about action figures? My life must be pretty good!

As to what to do with them head on down to Ikea...or Target.
Get yourself some inexpensive bookshelves and display your awesome collection! I bought a bunch of "Photo Ledge" shelves from Target on clearance- two 12" ledges for $10. Thhey're meant to display framed photos but they work perfectly for Marvel Universe. I plan an entire wall of Avengers, one of al Villians nad one of everyone else. The only problem is the nuiversal nemesis of all loose figure collectors. Cats. |

My DC being on the top of the shelf end up taking night flights though. I'm not sure I can even count how many times I've had to repose the MRS shelf. So for collectors, a word to the wise! Cats prefer autobots and Kamen Riders to snuggle with, but will gladly throw DCIH completely off the shelf! (It probably doesn't help the shelf in question is right next to my office desk where I do most of my work/internet checking.) |

I understand what your saying. I definitely go ape Shit when I find new figures, but lately I've really been up on release dates thanks to this site and many others so the element of surprise really goes out the window. When I do get them in my hands I still get happy none the less. It's as if someone ruined your surprise party.

I'll tell you what was fun for me...scooping up all the IM2s when they were running $5 a pop. 2 here, 3 there, you know whenever I was at Target, actually buying stuff besides action figures!

So far I got: cats like autobots and kids, unlike what retailers and the like think, like what we like.

All renters get dinged a bit on their security deposit anyway for painting expenses. I'm lucky- I live in a 2/1 with my roommmate 9and longtime best bud). the roomie colects comics and Heroclix- I do figures and build model spaceships....and some comic book art. Our home is a shrine to geekdom. Currently my Cat is being "good" (meaning she's asleep on the fresh laundry). She's got a thing for Moon Knight- he's often across the living room in the morning. |

I know exactly what you mean, and to be honest; I kind of like it. My toned down excitement has me passing on figures I don't need (watch me not buy DoTM stuff), whereas a couple of years ago anything new I saw in stores was cool/exciting, and probably bought. I still get excited, don't get me wrong, but it's different. And certainly on occasion, when that special figure you've been waiting or hoping on for so long, it's still magical (for me anyway). Just last week when Panthor arrived, I almost kicked my fiance out of the house for not telling me the second I walked in the door that a package came for me that day. I knew he was in the works for about eight months, but I was still really excited about adding that purple cat to my bookshelf opposite of He-Man and BC.

I had a similar feeling about a year ago. I had pretty much full sets of all the MU waves on card, neatly displayed. It looked great but felt empty. That big pile of toys stuck in their boxes seemed like a hollow victory.
To me you sound like a guy that is into the hunt, not the kill, if you catch my drift. I was the same and then I turned it around. The planet hulk wave turned up along with Galactus and I lost my mind. I spent a weekend tearing through the packaging and liberating every single figure I had. That was when I got my mojo back, having all those guys out, en masse, ready for posing and display won me back. Now I can't wait to get the toys, not for the sake of having them, but for the sake of fitting them into the display. You got to get hands on with these things, otherwise they might as well be in a vault. |

I admit, I wasnt really giddy when I got my new stuff this and last month. But I think theres a valid excuse to it. I just started working at a much better job than my last one. like a 1 week long transition, and I was excited over that and to me opening these things was more "ok, open box, look at, open package, display, run out to do laundry for work and find some dinner" so I've been busy. but that didnt stop me from checking frequently online to check their delivery status.
