Looks great, so you think every Stormtrooper and regiment on every planet in the entire galactic empire just went away?
After Jabba died for example the Stormtroopers would be the best armed and organized group on the planet, they would still run things the way they were without leadership it's not like everyone knew the Emperor died. I had drawn some light sabers with blades like that along time ago, pretty sure I had seen it years before that, and that's ridiculous that they asked some random guy about the small blades, it's always been a blade that can cut through anything. I mean you could touch a normal sword blade and not necessarily do any damage a blade made out of whatever light sabers are made out if is dangerous for everyone so I guess this guy should pout about light sabers all together. There isn't any weapon you can't hurt yourself with that's what they are for. Last edited by jestermon; 11-28-2014 at 09:36 PM.. |

I thought this was a joke. When I saw the black guy in the Stormtrooper outfit & then the weird droid ball thing & that speeder that looks like a brick it looked like something from Robot Chicken or Troops. I laughed at it. But the later scenes looked serious. It's not April 1st so I don't know what to think. The ships look great but everything else looks absolutely terrible. Is this for real?
Isn't the new movie supposed to take place 30 years later? Yeah, after 3 decades with no empire I would expect the Stormtroopers & clones to be all gone. What the hell have they been doing all that time? Last edited by Catatronic; 11-28-2014 at 10:02 PM.. |

Highlander Sith says..."there can be only one......erm....I mean two...."
I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and make a bold prediction. That laser claymore wielding character will not be an Inquisitor, or even the main bad guy at all. It will be Luke. Luke's style of lightsaber combat was two handed and very brutish, with long, wide swings, and a large claymore type weapon makes perfect sense for that style. The glove holding the saber also bears a resemblance to Anakin Skywalker's glove from the prequels, and it is on the hand that Luke lost to Vader, so it would not surprise me if Luke fashioned it after his father. There have also been rumors that the character might actually be Darth Revan as there are images circulating around the net of a character who wore a mask similar to Revan's brandishing a two handed claymore type lightsaber. I don't honestly know enough about Darth Revan to comment on this, other than that I know he's a pretty cool looking character. Regarding Revan, he is my favorite EU character and has an interesting and at times very ambiguous history. To start, I read the villain would dress "similarly" to Revan, but isn't actually him. That would make the guy over 3000 years old, although in the KOTOR timeline he does live to be over 300. The basic rundown on Revan is as follows: He was a very powerful Jedi who became the leading general during the Mandalorian wars. He became particularly brutal and willing to sacrifice many to ensure victory, and ultimately he handed the Mandalorians their asses when he killed the Mandalore. After the war he went into unknown territory and found the Star Forge. He wound up falling to the dark side and led a campaign against the republic until his apprentice and friend, Darth Malak, betrayed him and left him for dead. The Jedi mind-wiped him and used him against his former apprentice, but eventually Malak told him the truth of his identity. He rejects the dark side and winds up killing Malak and destroying the forge. He marries Bastila, the Jedi who saved him and helped him defeat Malak's army. His memories from before the wiping fully return, and he goes off to kill the Sith Emperor whom he encountered on his way to the Star Forge. He leaves his wife behind for her safety. His plan fails, he is betrayed by his allies again and the Emperor keeps him prisoner as a Force power generator for 300 years. They poorly explain that his strong connection to the force allows him to stop aging and mentally slow the Emperor's plans for decimation of the republic. After those 300 years he is released by a Jedi team but he's basically insane from his captivity and plans on wiping out all governments, both Jedi and Sith, to restore balance and peace. That's pretty much caught up to what I know is going on. Apparently they have confirmed that Andy Serkis is indeed the narrating voice from the trailer, he has a "pivotal role" yet "limited screen time."

Ehh. Personally I think that lightsaber looks really freaking stupid, like they're trying too hard to come up with unique designs. If you want it to look like a great sword, just give the hilt a cross guard. Don't make the thing look like something a 4 year-old designed.
The storm troopers look good. Seeing the Falcon again was great. When Abrams first did Star Trek I wished he would get a crack at Star Wars, but now that it's happening it just doesn't seem like that great of an idea. Can't even explain that. |

The light saber was the best thing about the trailer, why is there so much hate going on?

Personally, I like to think that it's this. Honestly though, there has been stranger weapons in the Star Wars EU. Plagius's lightsaber pike, Maris Brood's tonfa lightsabers, and Pong Krell's collapsible lightsabers were pretty wicked and cool looking, but highly impractical and dangerous weapons...especially Krell's. Those things were ridiculous...they were essentially lightsaber nun-chucks. Also...I think it's because the trailer gives the impression that the tone of the movie will go with the current Hollywood trend of being edgy and really dark, where people are more in tune with Star Wars having a fun, adventurous and light hearted atmosphere. It's rubbing a lot of old school fans the wrong way. Some people prefer the original versions of Grimm's fairy tales, while others enjoy the sanitized Disney versions (and I'm not trying to be ironic there.) To each his own there. All in all...everyone needs to relax...period. What we got to day was literally a little over 88 seconds of footage, which told us NOTHING about the characters or the movie itself. Whether or not Abrams can pull it off remains to be seen, but the man has a midas touch and we just have to hope he'll give it his best attempt. He successfully revived the Star Trek franchise (I personally enjoyed both movies, the first a lot more than the second, but hardcore fans there will tell you that he bastardized and butchered it as well...) Hopefully he will apply that same amount of love and care to this franchise, and we will finally have the Star Wars follow up we have been craving for the last thirty plus years. I kinda like the Lightsaber w/ a crossguard - made me think of that scene in Kingdom of Heaven, where Liam Neeson is teaching Orlando Bloom his type swordsmanship; particularly smashing another dude's eye using the pointy part of the crossguard. "The blade is not the only part of the weapon." Hope that guard is made with lightsaber resistant materials, though; one rocking smash and the guy's fingers/hand are gone.
Loving me those X-wings and stormtroopers. I kinda wonder what got that trooper at the beginning of the trailer afraid/confused? Plus the falcon flying to the star wars theme, gave me goosebumps. Last edited by PiercingRayer; 11-29-2014 at 01:04 AM.. |

The trooper is played by John Boyega, who is reportedly one of the main characters. Possibly he was a stormtrooper who defected and is then abandoned in the desert, or maybe he saw Boba Fett in the desert and was awe struck because I really really really want Boba Fett to not be dead anymore (that's the one thing I definitely want them to keep from the non canonical post stuff). I gotta say though, the more I see the new stormtrooper design the less I care for it. It's not total garbage, however you can't beat the original in this case (for me anyway).

Looks like these troopers would at least hit their target.

Serious design flaw... after skimming through the comments many of us have noticed this. I love the cross guard a lot, but it is hard to look past the design flaw. Hope they fix it =3.

How is that a design flaw? It looks freaking awesome. I can not wait to see it in action.

Based on bits of leaks here and three, the lightsaber wielder is Adam Driver, and apparently the character is related to Count Dooku.

Let the marketing engine roar. I will wait to see more of the flick before assigning any judgement. That tease offered too little to go on.
That hilt is not very practical if it's intended as a hand guard versus another lightsaber. Given what we know about the weapon's irresistible nature, it completely makes sense that a lightsaber represents the best defense against other lightsabers. However, I'd have to wear lightsaber gloves to prevent losing fingers (or the very hand I use to wield the sword ) when another duelist forced my guard back upon me....if not running the risk of impaling myself with the lightsaber hilt as battle forced the blade close to my body (which would necessitate a lightsaber vest ) ....the design might be a bit of overkill, but many people dig overkill.... I now realize what my problem is with these new trooper designs. It's the helmet, specifically it's that the black of the "mouth" connects to the black of the visor. It just looks "eh" to me having it connect like that, I think it's because then they just have this weird white blob of a nose on the middle of their face. When the clone troopers visor connected to the "mouth" it was Boba Fett style which was an intentional nod to their template I guess, here it comes off as more of a band-aid on the nose look. Just if they had kept the visor and "mouth" separate, that's what I would have preferred, I do like though that now they have a visor and not just two eyes. Much more practical but still less aesthetically pleasing probably because since 1977 there has always been a "this is how stormtroopers look" deal and now this is new so I'm feeling the "but this is how they looked since '77 and you're doing it different, grahh I'm a fan why don't you bend to my will!"
Huh that was kind of a rant to just elaborate that I feel "meh" about the trooper design.

It looks great. The cinematography is pure Star Wars and it looks cool. I'm particularly in love with the new Stormtrooper helmet design. There's nothing wrong with change. It's the future of the canon for Christ's sake. It stands to reason that a design-change might happen here or there.
Honestly, anyone who thinks this movie is going to suck because the prequels sucked are trying way too hard to act jaded. Like it's passe to even get excited about Star Wars movies anymore. Yes, the prequels are mostly atrocious. But Disney usually doesn't put out utter shit, and JJ Abrams has a good eye for cinematography, which is honestly more important than a story with Star Wars. I can't wait, and I'd eat my words if I was wrong, but I have confidence this will be really entertaining. There's no way it could be as bad or worse than the prequels. No way. |

^there not a whole hell of a lot different! what the mouth area extends up to the eyes now? I just hope they try to give us something new instead of the episode 1-3 continuous rehash of sand people, Jawas, Hutts, and other characters from the OT. and for the love of god please try to stay off Tattoine! can one major galactic event ever play out without involving that god forsaken desert!

You know what's a shame...I know that the trailer didn't give us much to go off of, but nearly no one can seem to find anything to discuss other than the lightsaber. It reminds me of when the trailer for "The Phantom Menace" debuted, and they showed us all of this neat stuff we never saw before, and all anyone wanted to talk about was Maul's staff saber. In fact, all the way up to the movie, it was all anyone wanted to talk about.
Really makes me wish they left the damn thing out of the trailer. It's actually working against Abrams I think at this point, as it's become such a focus point on forums and in the media that it's becoming anti-hype. When CNN is doing stories about how sword makers are scoffing the weapon design, it's more than just a slow news day, it's becoming a big deal that's taking away from some of the excitement. When we get another trailer 3 or 4 months from now, people will still wanna discuss the lightsaber. I understand all about hype machines, but what was wrong in surprising us at the theater opening day? Going off on a tangent with that said, and I know this is going to sound contradictory as I am talking about non spoilers and trailers, but I hope the lightsaber never shows up again until the movie is actually in theaters, and the next trailer gives us something to discuss other than "oh ****" moments and action sequences that would be better reserved as surprises. ASM2 and G.I.Joe Retaliation were RUINED thanks to the amount of spoilers and "oh ****" moments it's trailers gave away. On the other hand, CA: Winter Soldier did a fantastic job at hiding the major plot points in it's trailers (unless you read spoilers, who saw Arnim Zola coming?), while Gareth Edwards did a good job at hiding stuff in Godzilla's trailers for months (until it was all spoiled by the onslaught of television commercials,) and I hope Abrams is able to do the same thing down the line with this film. The lightsaber discussion is actually starting to drive me crazy...lol. Last edited by Trivial Psychic; 11-29-2014 at 08:46 PM.. |
