Superman features a stunning likeness to Henry Cavil. The likeness on his standard head is crazy, almost every angle nails the Cavil look.

Not to mention the the figure overall is just ugly to me. The colors are way too vibrant and the dude looks like he's wearing a bulky, oversized oven mitt. |

I get where you are coming from, but when I say this I don't mean its a 3d scan at master sculptor levels. It's within the scope of a 6 inch figure's expectations. This is the closest to Cavil at every angle of any of the figures so far, and I'd even argue better than Hot Toys. Of course some angles will be better than others, and lighting plays a part. The pic you chose from my set is the softest light of them all, cuts and details of the face sculpt are less present.

I can't tell these horrible Cavil Superman movies apart, but you do have a point. But after looking at some pics, I'd say he looks pretty much the same now, except maybe his face is a tad bit fuller.

Yes, as has already been said, the head generally resembles Cavil from certain angles and in certain lighting conditions, but it's more realistic to say it's an overall decent but not outstanding likeness. But - in my opinion - it doesn't qualify as "stunning," or "crazy." But perhaps the figure looks better in-hand? Quote:

Listen, we'll agree to disagree, that's all. Last edited by Dolemite; 04-09-2017 at 02:04 PM.. |

Oh, and so I don't come across as a totally critical wanker, I do have to say that even though I don't like the figure, I DO think your photo shoot for it was totally kick-ass! Great camera angles, fantastic lighting, excellent backgrounds, and I really dig the Photoshop effects you did with the eyes and all.

I get where you're coming from, but when you're writing a review and you're saying things like "stunning likeness" and "likeness on his standard head is crazy" and "almost every angle nails the Cavil look," you DO set an expectation of a certain level quality.
That pic of the Hot Toys Superman you posted looks way closer to Cavil and the Mezco one, IMO. Fair enough, but it's a picture you obviously chose as good enough to represent how the figure looks in a close-up. I mean, you even included it in the batch of pics you have to scroll through to get to the full gallery, and typically those pics are the best of the bunch. Listen, we'll agree to disagree, that's all. I do actually think it is stunning, and, I do think it's better than Hot Toys, especially what's shown there. Def disagree with your opinion on that one. My thing, Hot Toys is more of the "hit it at one angle, perfect, rest looks like a Cavil impersonator". With many of their figures. With this figure, in hand, almost all angles produce a situation where you recognize it as Cavil, even if not perfect. To me, mixed with the great dead on shots, it warrants the "stunning". That was my logic behind it. |
