Greetings from Boston!
Guess what I found in my parents' attic!? An all original Voltes V made-in-Japan transformer robot. Yes, that's right. Get out your jelly bracelets, and prepare to suck down a box of Nerds. It's the 1980's all over again! The Good: Remember that kid that no one wanted to hang with because he was so OCD he wouldn't take his toys out of the packaging and actually play with them? Well, that jackass was me, which is incredibly fortunate for you because this Japanese monstrosity is in exceptional condition. This transformer robot (a la Voltron) was based on a late 70's Anime series. The toy is incredibly detailed and well thought out with heavy diecast metal throughout. I can remember opening it on Christmas morning in the 80's and pretty much swooning dead away. I probably played with it less than 10 times because I was so overwhelmed with how complicated it was, and I didn't want to lose any pieces. There are a huge number of articulated joints, firing mechanisms, buttons and hidden features. It really is remarkable....and incredibly rare. Every missle that came with the toy is accounted for and included! Paint and plastics are on the whole in superb shape. Color is still rich and chrome is still bright. Original treads for the Panzer unit are intact and pristine, which is incredibly unusual for this particular toy. The robot fully assembles, and looks oh-so-bad-ass in that not-so-bad-ass 80's way. I'm happy to supply more photos to interested parties. Also: FREE SHIPPING!!! The Bad: Although put away in mint, hardly-played-with condition, after several attic cleanings over the subsequent 30 years some stuff got lost and broken. Missing items include: box top, one of the Big Fists, three antennae, manuals, one hose and one of the two connector pieces (I think they gave you an extra, because I can only find use for one, which is included). The Ugly: The biggest issue is the dreaded blue broken plastic of the Crewzer head piece (pictured). Also, the red pivot point is broken as well. With gentle handling it all goes into robot mode and stays there, but it's quite fragile. An enterprising collector could repair this, and this is incredibly common with this particular toy, and 80's era blue toy plastics from Japan in general. There is also the odd paint rub here and there on other pieces. See pics for details. On the whole, this toy is in superb condition. Even the original string for the spinny-top weapon is there! I am not a collector, so I've done my research and have based my price on my analysis of the Voltes V market in the last few months. I want to price this fair, and don't need to make a killing, so this might be your lucky day! It needs to go to a home of someone who can appreciate it, and find the last few pieces to make it perfect and complete. I'm brand new to the Toyark site, but I do have a perfect 5 star rating at Reverb.com, and have sold some high end audio/recording items there: https://reverb.com/profile/jrl0rrd15fc . I am not a dealer or collector. Just a happy dude who got this for Christmas in the 80's and found it again while visiting his folks. I can attest to the fact that every piece in the box is 100% authentic. There are no replacement parts whatsoever. Opening this was like opening a time capsule. That said, I cannot accept returns or exchanges of any kind. Please take a close look at the photos. I'm happy to answer any questions a prospective buyer might have. Hit me up with any questions you may have! I'm asking $1499 shipped. This is currently the least expensive all-original Voltes V on the market that I have seen. I am basing this price also on individual Voltes V pieces that have sold in the last several months. I would love to not deal with EBay, so I'm listing this treasure locally and on enthusiast websites. As of writing this there are four other Voltes V on Ebay: 1. mint complete for $13,000, 2. mint complete for $9,999, 3. Excellent condition near complete $2,800 and 4. Fair condition, less complete than mine $1799 Entire photo album of every piece in detail: https://imgur.com/a/CX6xL |
