This project is for my Remco Universal Studios Mini Monsters, which are in 1/18 scale. I recently acquired a set of fast food mini monsters, some of which came with accessories. The Frankenstein Monster came with a monotone gray plastic lab table, which came in 3 pieces. As you can see from the pictures, it fits the Remco figure perfectly, so I decided to give it a custom paint job. Out of the entire set, I feel this is the best piece. It is simple to make, yet communicates the idea of the lab table perfectly. I am disappointed Remco never thought of anything like this.
I started by disassembling it and giving the pieces a good base coat of white paint. This will help preserve the integrity of the colors I use. Next I repainted the base parts of the table gray. I added detail with brown for the straps and bronze for the “moving parts,” those elements that look like mechanical parts of the table. I painted black in the channels for the knobs and white, yellow, green and red in the gages. I trimmed the gages in bronze and used a sewing pin to dot the holes in the straps with black. CCC. |

I really like paper-craft props because they're cheap and allow for ample customization in a display. I made this arcade cabinet a few years back and wanted to make more for an arcade/comic-shop diorama but my color printer went to shit and I had to throw it away and upgrade to a laser printer but it only does black and white. Maybe one day I'll go to a print shop and make some more but right now I've at least got the one.

This is the Animal Planet Polar playset. It went out of stock about 4 years ago at TRU. I got this one at a garage sale for $4 last year, minus 2 of the 3 penguins. I didn't care, I wasn't after the penguins.
I decided to recreate it in foam core, but make some changes/improvements to it. Here is the final assembly, prepaint/color. If you look close you can see some of the changes. I plan to use different colors to create a more alien landscape for taking pictures. I may add a few loose pieces and a better base before I am done. CCC. |

Edit: To get one, it only is available through Amazon's exclusive The Force Awakens Troop builder box set and I put the accessories on a Black Series Stormtrooper. Maybe a single release will come soon; I hope anyway. Last edited by Universe; 04-24-2016 at 12:26 AM.. |

Well I didn't have much time to get too much of my lab stuff out and I haven't found all of it yet but here is a quick picture of it coming together.
It's a good thing Finn didn't go with Quiigold and the Crimson Corsair... So some of the stuff here is Dr. Dreadfull lab drinks. I picked up a bunch of these on cleance for $1 Star Wars Power of the Jedi - Carbon Freeze Chamber Wolverine Origins - Weapon X Stasis Chamber Various pieces from the GI Joe Rise of Cobra PIT The Star Trek 2K9 transporter I mentioned earlier. The main pieces is from an awesome line called Operation Bug that came with these lab tables and giant bug things you get to dissect. Various candy toxic waste cans. Yeah it does. I saw a GI Joe next to it at some point and it worked great. That was one I added to the Archives already. I just always found the cat magic 8 ball thing an interesting oddity that could be used as a shelf or something. I would have to find it on super-clearance though for that.

That set is actually pretty great. Will Robinson actual scales to 1:18 pretty well as a kid. The Cryo chamber is kind of small but there is a removable part I plan on taking out to see if it would fit a regular sized human any better. And it also comes with 3 magnetic tri-spider things. I love little critters like these.

Hey I actually already have one of these! It's a Schrödinger's Cat box. It's like a magic eight ball but with only two possible answers: yes if the cat is alive or no if it's dead.
It actually works pretty neat too. There's two plastic cats in the box (one yes and one no) but they're each set apart from each other facing the right angle corner of the box near the door. When the sliding door is moved aside it switches rapidly between one of two lights which is right above the door (each light facing one cat) for a random brief period until it stops on one cat giving you the answer. The alive/yes cat sits right in front of the window so if the light shines on it then the rest of the box is simply too obscured to see anything else, but the dead/no cat is set across from a small angled mirror so when it's illuminated it's reflection is projected onto the window screen and the non-illuminated yes cat is obscured. Yay for basic light properties of science!
