While everyone is entitled to their opinion, to say that AVP:R was worse than AVP, you are doing that film a disservice. While not exactly a work of art, and it's annoying humans aside (who were only there for the purpose of creating a body count) that film was leaps and bounds better than AVP in nearly every aspect, and at a much lower budget no less. I'd even go as far as to day that the unrated cut is probably the third best film in the series, behind the original two Predator films.

I hate almost everything about AvP:R movie. Right in line with Alien: Resurrection. Film structure, creature designs, locale, ending. Everything about it irritates me to no end. I didn't even realize there were fans of that film. The 1st one, yeah, I see some fans here and there.

I picked up masked Scar after skipping the unmasked version in the previous wave (I picked up Celtic from that one). I can skip the other two Preds in this wave, they all loo too much alike. But the quality of this new buck is amazing, to be sure.

However, AVP:R was also packed with the most annoying, unsympathetic human characters ever seen in a horror/sci-fi movie...every one was an aggravating, cliched douche that were there, as you said, simply to be killed. And also, after years of great AVP Dark Horse comics set in the future and involving the Colonial Marines, setting the movie in the modern day was a move no one wanted to see, in addition to destroying the continuity of both individual series. Overall, AVP:R a guilty pleasure (although pleasure might be too strong a word), but it only compares to AVP favorably because AVP was typical Paul W.S. Anderson quality, AKA fucking terrible. I think AVP:R managed to attract some fans because it was rated R which carries some novelty and Wolf is a better predator in both design and behavior than the AVP guys. While neither is good I'd personally give the slight edge to the sequel because they're both guilty pleasures of mine but I prefer the more violent kills while I'm at it, that is if you can even see said kills because AVP:R had a horrible lighting situation.
If I had to rank each film from both franchises including the AVPs, for this list excluding Prometheus, in descending order it would probably be: Alien Aliens Predator Predator 2 / Predators (I hold them in equal regards) Alien 3 AVP:R AVP Alien Resurrection

Great pics! The Scar Predator is the AVP figure I have been waiting for. I picked that one up real fast
These Predators do look similar, but they're all really cool! Temple guard really stands out. |

It's amazing what quality photos can do for very similar figures!
I'd pre-ordered this line but UK releases take longer... I prefer AvP over the sequel by a country mile, Requiem just seemed to deploy crap references to the previous films in a pitch black setting! |
