What does everyone think about this? Right now I saw you're better off getting a fat one, as there you can get great bundle deals with games and movies for the same price as just the slim.

Also, according to an article on Engadget the Slim is expected to ship on 26th. Good news for those who are getting one.

I don't have a PS3 yet. I heard it was supposed to be cheaper and have a 120 gig HD. I never see any PS3's for less than retail price, so I am really thinking about getting a PS3 this fall.

Yeah. The PS3 is becoming more a reality for me. I just couldn't justify spending so much on a gaming system that I honestly don't have the time to play as much as I would like. But for $300 its not that bad.

I got mine from a seller on another message board. I got the original 20gb with backwards compatibility, 2 games, 2 bluray movies, various cables, all for $200 shipped. Couldn't pass that up. I'm debating now on getting another one for the bedroom so I can stream my media wirelessly and watch my videos in the AC.

I feel the exact same way. I'm a sony guy when I have any time to play(which is very little too), so I won't settle for anything else. $600 was just way too expensive. You aren't really losing anything with the slim, so I consider it the best deal on the market right now for what you get.

My buddies at Game Stop got their shipments in yesterday.

I want to get the original PS3 with the biggest memory.

I just recently found out that the newer PS3s are not backwards compatible!

Sadly no. I think in fact there are only 2 models of the PS3 that are backwards compatible. If that's something you want, I would recommend getting the 20gb hard drive. You can always replace the HDD later on for something bigger if you want. However the 20gb model does not have wifi.

Yeah, I think it was only the very first PS3's(20 or 40? I can't remember) that had the backward compatibility. After that, they scrapped it. So PS3's have been without it for awhile.

I would only want the bigger memory.

OK, so the 40 is the bigger memory. How can you tell a backwards compatible version from a new version?

The 20GB, 60GB and older 80GB models were the ones with backwards compatibility. The 20GB and 60GB use hardware emulation, while the 80GB uses software emulation. I have a 60GB one. The size of the hard drive should not matter, It's very easy and cheap to upgrade, as they simply use laptop hard drives.

As always.....You the man Joe!

Thanks for that info!

So an 80GB hard drive is the biggest. Is there a way to tell the difference between the older backwards compatibility ones and the newer ones that aren't?

Probably by serial number. Anything at retail would not be backwards compatible now. Again, get the cheapest one possible. a huge HD will be less than $100 and it will take 10 minutes to install.

Couldn't agree more. That's why I got the original 20gb with backwards compatibility. If I ever need to upgrade I can. The only thing I lose out on is wifi.

I've been using the wifi on mine a bit. The only downfall is I am having a hard time getting my media servers to function properly. Sucks, but I just haven't felt like digging around to find out what's causing the trouble.
