Mailman brought me my Revoltech Batman figure in the mail the other day. Kaiyodo's Revoltech line has been taking a crack at various movie properties, one of which is The Dark Knight. The packaging is slick, and opens like a book.
The figure itself is a fantastic sculpt. He comes with a batarang, a grappling gun, four extra hands, an alternate Bruce Wayne head, and a stand for various poses. While it says it's The Dark Knight bat suit, it's actually the Batman Begins suit. Batman did wear it for a while at the beginning of the sequel, so I suppose it's technically correct. His cape is made of three separate hard plastic pieces, held together by revo joints. The result is a dynamic cape that you can pose. I still don't know what to think of the cape. While it's cool you can pose the cape, I wish the plastic material were softer, like a malleable material that DCUC figures wear. When folded up, it doesn't aesthetically look the greatest. The placement of the joints by the shoulders seems a bit off as well. He definitely looks better from the front than the back. Here's what he looks like with the cape removed. As you can see, his grappling gun can attach to his utility belt, which is neat. One of his hands are molded to specifically hold the batarang. The alternate Bruce Wayne head sculpt is... terrible. Needless to say, I will not be using this head. He has multiple points of articulation, thus being able to pull off some dynamic poses. He has revo joints in the neck at the base of the head, where his neck and torso connect, his shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles, as well as three joints for the cape alone. (pictured next to the Revoltech Alien toy, which I believe is still the better figure). As you can see, the money shots are the flying ones. That's where the benefit of the three piece cape comes into play. Honestly, when standing still, I prefer the DCUC capes, or a cloth one, but for flying, this looks impressive. Size-wise, he is somewhere between the 3.75" and 6" sculpts. He's a bit back heavy due to the cape, so the stand is a must when trying to stand him. All in all, he's a really cool figure, very movie accurate. Really good, but not great. The thing holding this toy back from being great is the cape itself, which leaves something to be desired. I would have liked it if Kaiyodo had thrown in an extra cape for non-flying poses. He looks great on the shelf next to the other recent Revoltech releases. I would really like it if Kaiyodo made the Bat-pod to go along with this Batman, as well as the Joker. Finally, Kaiyodo has an Alien Queen and Predator in the works for the near future, which I am really looking forward to.

Yeah, it's that damned cape. Only good for mid-air poses.

Yeah, the regular alien is awesome. I can't wait to get the queen, as well as the predator that's supposed to be coming out!
