Like many I was disappointed with the Guardians Set that MU put out. All the other team packs had three full figures plus whatever extras. The guardians got two, and this little non movable Rocket Racoon and Groot. I figured half articulated is better than what we got, so I fixed his arms. Used the Transformers Sam Witwicky fig that came boxed with Stealth Bumblebee. His legs were a very close color match so the only painting I had to do was in the cut marks (the plastic inside is unfortunately flesh tone). The parts for the wrist swivel was cut from Comic Pack Snake eyes hands (the silent issue where he's blue).
And yes I will be making a full size Groot. Just need to find a tree beard toy. If anyone needs the wip pics, I have them. |

First I heated and pulled out the right arm. I cut off the left arm, and drilled a hole to match the other side. The legs from Sam plug right in.
Then I pulled out Sam's lower legs, and cut his thighs almost in half. I drilled the holes upward deeper so there would be room for the legs to be plugged back together. My cut was curved in the back to give him an elbow and limit his arm from bending backwards. Then I cut Sam's lower legs as close to the bottom of the elbow as I could. I took a pair of GI Joe hands and cut them off at the wrists. That was glued onto the calf part. Finally I cut the gloves off Rocket's original arms, and drilled holes in them. I also hollowed out a little recess to make room for the GI Joe wrists. Popped the gloves on and I'm done. Oh, p.s. I used some blue paint on the inside of the elbow because the plastic of Sam's legs is actually flesh tone. I was hoping the jeans color was all the way through, because it's a near dead on match for Rocket. |
