here is a documentry on the samurai and some history on thier armor, one thing I liked about the last samurai was it showed the true warrior mentality of these men,the honor they fought with and the destruction of an ancient yet civilizied warcraft with the introduction of western weapons,it was sad imo to see the downfall of true warriors.

sorry,forgot the link :/

He wasn't in real life (as far as I know), he only played a guy who was half-Chinese. I'm not talking about cementing roles, I mean cementing themes. Haven't you noticed that Asians are never in a lead role unless it's a Martial Arts action movie? Harold and Kumar being the mainstream exception. It just seems kind of funny since I live in Canada and there are plenty of Asians who live here who don't go around throwing roundhouses or meditating in parks or breaking into dance routines. I'm not saying Kung Fu was what did it, I'm just saying that ever since that, it's pretty much been martial arts experts or wise old men often played by James Hong. And Brazilians, too. If they need a capoeira expert, then bam, but otherwise, nothing. I mean thank goodness for Star Trek having Zulu. That was just groundbreaking and he pretty much had zero stereotypes. He was just one of the guys.

Honestly, as far as Kung Fu goes, I just wasn't a big fan of the show. I thought a lot of it was a little cheesy. I don't think "because of Kung Fu (the series), Asians can't find non-Martial Arts/wise old men roles in Western TV and movies" but I also don't think it helped the West understand the East in any profound way.

My favourite fight scene on the Magnificient Butcher. Sammo Hung basically attacks Lee Hoi San with just about every single animal form in the Hung Ga style of Kung Fu.

it may have been somewhat cheesy but it was 1974,what wasnt,as far as helping the west understand the east perhaps not,but its lessons helped me and continue to,it was and still is a great tool for those who look beyond the studio props and tv part of it.

I'll give you that. It definitely played the "wise master" part to the hilt and had a variety of endearing life lessons that certainly don't hurt to have in a cynical dog eat dog world like ours.

If it's goofy gory martial arts you want, then look no further than the Story of Ricky. There are some insanely graphic yet uber fake scenes you can search for yourself on YouTube, they're all in there, but here's the trailer to this weird flick.

I'd paint it black and silver if you were doing silver samuari but thats such a cool mask that i'd recommend creating something completely new.

here is an update,I sanded most of the mask to give it a brownish leathery look being alot of the menpo(face mask) were made of leather,I left a touch of the silver for frown type lines and or a tad of expression, any better?

IP Msn is a great movie!
Yeah, it was wicked when Yip Man beats the crap out of the Japanese military as revenge for the dude shooting the other Kung Fu Master in the back of the head. This is just another reason why Donnie Yen is -the- No. 1 Kung Fu action star to me. Here's another great Yen offering. Legend Of The Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen. My eyes practically popped out of their sockets when he stole the costume from the display and started going Kato on their asses!!

Love that film. Akira Kurosawa is an amazing director and I recommend any of his films, including that one and Hidden Fortress.

Fun facts: Seven Samurai was the basis for the classic Western known as The Magnificent Seven. Also, Hidden Fortress was part of the inspiration for the first Star Wars movie.

Indeed, they also feature very intricate and often stylized swordplay seldom seen at the time.
