lol As usual, you bring up good points. I am pretty persnickety, I'll admit. But at least I realize its not all about me and my wants. In the big picture, I have no problem with movie fans getting what they want as long as I get some classic figs too. Anyway, a wave of movie figs gives my pocket a breather until the next wave of comic themed figs! |

I wonder also, never seen the pic that accompanied the info. I see a dry spell for Hasbro between now and X-mas....so I expect it before X-mas because you know money talks. I bet they will be repaints of the SDCC and Movie wave. No knocking, since I am missing the SDCC boxset. I expect it to be similar to the X-Men boxset(90 dollars) cost UNLESS it is NOT a TRU exclusive.
That's my 2 cents using educated guessing. |

They are doing another this year. The figure is the BAF Rocket Raccoon with white gloves and piping on his vest instead of red.

Uhhhh..I really hope not. That's not a very good approximation of the suit Rocket is wearing on that cover. I also don't care so much for the movie GotG Starlord. However, its a moot issue since I have the classic-versions for both characters.
Funny how the movies influence the depictions of heroes in comics. I remember when Blade in the comics started looking like Wesley Snipes. Not to discredit Wesley, who I love as Blade, but I always preferred 70's Blade who sported a dope 'fro....not to mention the recent depiction of Blade as bald a la Sticky Fingaz...really? Sticky Fingaz (I never really was an Onyx fan - maybe a song or two)? Recently, we've seen Hawkeye transition to a look more closely resembling Renner's rendition of the hero. Call me an ol'fogey, a purist, a stick in the mud, but this sort of thing grinds me a bit.....I guess the movies nor the comics can be made to suit me specifically....and there is 'brand recognition' that must ALWAYS be considered! Anyway, I guess the Starlord/Rocket are not so important to me as is the Gamora. I hope Hasbro at least sticks to the picture they used as a mock-up, which featured her in her Annihilation outfit...and a new Drax and whomever else they decide to include (I'd personally like to see Phyla, Mantis, Bug, or Cosmo). DC may be doing it too, of course. They're adding characters from Arrow into the Green Arrow comic and allowing two of the writers from the show to take over the book. If they try to morph it into anything resembling the tv series, I'm out. I do like the movie Starlord costume, and while part of me still prefers the helmet design from the Abnett/Lanning comics, the movie version with the exposed hair is a little more unique. I think Drax's movie design is pretty good too, mostly due to how elaborate the tattoos/markings are. If they release a 6" comic-style GotG set, I might end up swapping that Starlord out for the movie version. I already have the 3.75" one, after all. |

@Poison Shadow
What you bring up about 'realistic' costumes ('realism' by extension) is a big part of why I consider superhero movies (and to a larger degree, comics as well – although for slightly different reasons that revolve around continuity and presentation) to be targeting someone other than myself – the older fan that has enjoyed reading comics for some 30 plus years. Many of the people that enjoy these movies often don't have a formalized experience with these characters in general, and that's ok. I'm not a snob about who enjoys these gems from our collective childhoods. I respect that while I grew up with (in many ways along side of) these characters, I don't have 'ownership'...I'm just a fan, whatever that means. However, as Hollywood creates a commodity out of childhood icons near and dear to my heart, they could at least do so in a more accurate fashion. Initially, it bugged me that film makers attempted to tamp down some of the flamboyant nature of heroes' costumes. Lets' tweak so-and-so's costume because the viewing audience isn't ready. Isn't ready? Super-heroes are the best thing that has happened to film in a very long time. After all, its Hollywood that has become stale and irrelevant. Now that they have finally recognized the wealth of creative energy that comics represent, don't infect the genre with the same stifled thinking that has plagued modern Hollywood. I admit that they have gotten a bit better as of late, but I still see directorial tweaks (reworking of origins) that seem to disregard the source material in ways that say, “my idea for this is better.” If the masses enjoy these changes, then who am I to nay-say or poo-poo the process. I'm willing to step aside, be selective/discerning in what I endorse, and take what enjoyment I can from these modern interpretations. I feel you on the current state of 'books'. I only do TPB's of epic story-lines and older stories I haven't read yet.....just picked up both TPB's for Thor: Eternals Saga. |

I would also like some credit for knowing this. I only knew it was a guardian because that art was featured in the young guns book
just saw this on ebay, its a great custom. I bet The'll use Satana's head & body for Gamora with a new cape for that 5 pack

My two local walgreens stores had neither Venom nor Boba Fett. They didn't have any actual Hasbro toys yet, but they had their exclusive Tyrion from GoT so I picked that up to make it not feel like a complete waste of time.

Hey, everyone, hope the weekend is going great for all. Question, does anyone have an issue with the GOTG set? I mean, I try to like the set, but I can not even pull the trigger on the Groot BAF! Do not get me wrong, I do not think the figures are bad, but it seems like Nova is by far the best figure of the bunch, with all the other figures, to me anyway, tied for second. I hope that they do come out with a new GOTG set, and I do hope the figures are comic book costumes, any comic book costumes will do, and maybe come with a comic book or some type of comic book cover done by an artist who is familiar with their look.

I would not mind a Surfer done in a good Ron Lim style, but he was only in my lineup as the main figure to sell the line.

@Chuck Sass
Although you didn't direct that first part at me, my spirit demands that I answer...SACRILEGE...THERE ARE NEVER ENOUGH SURFERS....TAKE THAT BACK RIGHT NOW. Seriously though, not factoring the big four (Spider-Man, Iron Man, Cap, and Hulk) into consideration, between Toy Biz and Hasbro there have been 4 Daredevils (at least), make up a number for Wolverine (I personally have 8 or 9 - I've lost count), 5 Punishers (at least) and 4 Ghostriders (at least). I have nothing against any of those characters, but I bring them up only because I consider Norrin Radd just as pivotal a character (more so IMO) in the Marvel Universe as any of the others. That said, can we Surfer Fans just have one more gleaming champion of the spaceways!?!?!? Please. Just one more. Done correctly. Hasbro's offerings do not really count at all; they were undersized, poorly painted, and woefully underwhelming sculpts. I hear your point about 'new' versus 're-make' (I've even voiced the same opinion as it pertains to X-men figs - we've got a lot of duplicates y'know), but we jumped that shark so long ago that I no longer recall the date or time....Just one more!...and you won't hear from me again on the issue...promise! About Gamora, I believe the costume in question is less misogynistic than her original fishnet number. Even as a kid, when I saw her in that original fishnet jumper it made me think of soft-pron and impure thoughts (joke). She showed less skin in it, but the idea that she's actually wearing a skin tight fishnet body suit is quite provocative. In this increasingly prurient society in which we live today, I can only imagine what will run through people's minds if we get Gamora's starter uni. The Annihilation outfit is little more than a risque bathing-suit that I've seen as a costume option in video games such as Dead Or Alive circa 1998 (Sega Saturn import)...and more recently on celebs and starlets. I'll take either (any) as long as its comic based... Last edited by TheBlueMarvel; 09-01-2014 at 11:08 AM.. |

I know I've said it before in the 3.75" forum, but if they make comic Gamora it should be the Abnett and Lanning run design since that matches the other figures already available (the Drax was that design, the Rocket Raccoon BaF/membership exclusive is that design, and the comic Star-Lord is that design) so making it the Mass Effect armor design would just alienate her look from the team too much. I believe Hasbro would rather just repaint three existing figures and mock up two new figures, rather than make five entirely new figures. They could use this version, as I've said so many times before, to be more considerate to concerned buyers (though Emma Frost and Tigra wear about the same or less and nobody cries out that they use those designs, or that the Silver Surfer is technically naked and Hercules dresses like a man-stripper).
I'd definitely prefer for them repaint the SDCC Star-Lord, besides that being easily his best costume. The vol.3 one is very dull and lame compared to just about every other version. Going with his most recent design would just be a repack of the movie toy, and that wouldn't likely sell.

That could just be the SDCC Star-Lord with white stripes and gloves instead of red, or maybe the same figure but with the faceplate lifted (I guess that's the new head you would mean).

Meh. I'd prefer the bathing suit version for Gamora, with yellow circles around the eyes and possibly with the hood on her head. I'll be onboard with less revealing female comic character designs when male characters are no longer just as oversexualized.
I'm expecting Groot to basically be the movie BAF with a different head, MAYBE new hands and feet as well. Hell, I'd be fine if it was just a straight-up re-release of the BAF with no changes, but I completely understand why the majority of people wouldn't like that. Similarly, I'm expecting the Star Lord to be the same as the recent SDCC version but with white accents. Again, I'd actually prefer a straight re-release here as I like the uniform much better with red accents, but ehh, I could just paint over them myself. Whatever they release, I'll be happy to own a full set of comic Guardians. Unless of course they use the awful Marvel Now designs, in which case I'll skip them entirely. Only upside to those version would be the fact that Agent Venom would fit in with them better, but I'll display him with the set regardless. Already have Gargan Venom on my Spider-Man shelf. |
