Storm, only because she never got her revenge from when spidey punched her face.
that said, I agree with you both about buying books. I think the all new all different is the best time for me to jump off and start picking up trades. Although that Gamora book will be the only one I'll supporting monthly. |

I hear you, and with this "All-New All-Different" Marvel there are 60-odd new series launching. How do they expect readers to support every character/series they enjoy if they launch dozens of comics in one month?!
On an unrelated, ML-related note: out of all the X-Men, who would you pair Spider-Man against? I'm preparing a photo shoot, and I have no idea who he'd be suited with. Wolverine, perhaps? I was extremely shocked to hear Marvel is trying to bring some D lister heros back from the dead.. black knight and hercules???? As for pairing him up against someone, why not another street level character? Daredevil, wolverine. I recall years back where him and nightcrawler worked together. They are semi even skill wise, but spidey has more in the strength department. |

I have been thinking about this for awhile and after reading some other comments I am more convinced. Does anyone else feel like someone at Marvel was watching the 80s He-Man/She-Ra Secret of the Sword movie when they wrote up the new Angela back story?

The all new all different will be interesting... i'll continue with my favs. Spidey will be a definite, hulk im upset to say ill be dropping for awhile. That is until bruce banner comes back. I am definitely jumping on Carnage, ill try the new venom, but this is not the venom we all knew and love. Space knight Venom.

I always just thought they took that "she's your long lost secret sister" from any TV soap opera.

They don't. They're trying for a broader approach to reach a wider audience even if each individual is buying fewer books. A small number of obsessive collectors buying everything branded with an X or an A or a Spider is an unsustainable business plan and part of the reason comics are in the sorry state they're in as an industry.

True enough. But do you think the slow death of print media might be the bigger hurdle? How do you inspire a generation of potential readers, who were weaned on digital media, to suddenly shift gears and start collecting printed comics? I live near a LCS that does not carry any back issues. Until most recently, I'd never encountered anything like this. The owner told me there was no profit in having back issues. When I asked what he does with weekly-books that don't sell, he simply told me that he ships them back. Back to where, Diamond? I know next to nothing about the business-side of LCS, but that sounds like a losing proposition...

Print vs digital issue though is a different matter entirely than the amount of titles being published. |

I can't wait for my Vishanti set to come in, I just got my shipping notification friday (some of my orders were doubled so I had to call and cancel). |

I guess, I took what you said as meaning: Marvel increases the number of titles to get more people buying books over-all, even if those people are buying fewer titles per person. The reasoning behind all of this being that greater numbers of casual readers will potentially trump the 'value-add' of modest populations of voracious-long-term fans. My take is that because this new gen of readers is more apt to consume digital media (and torrent it at that..."if it's free, it's for me" attitude), there aren't many tricks or gimmicks you can use to combat the macro-issue of the medium dying as a whole. No matter how well intentioned the shift toward greater representation may be (as an African-American and representative of the "broader audience," I'm all for diversity), if it feels schlocky, it's only going to drive away what little loyal-base there is left...A tough scenario to be in for publishers.

Well, he has fought Wolvie on a few occasions. I think Gambit would also make for an interesting match up. They both have a high degree of cunning as far as fighting-styles are concerned...Beast is as strong (in some mutations, he might even be stronger), nearly as agile and fast as Petey...then there's Nightcrawler, but I don't know what X-men line-up you have in mind...

Guess I'm going with Nightcrawler then! Cheers everyone for the input. As for "All-New" Hulk, what's happening with him? From what I've heard, they're introducing a new character into the mantle? Smells like another Red-Hulk storyline to me.. Last edited by VonPooten; 08-02-2015 at 03:12 PM.. |

storm gets down played a lot, but I remembering numerous times in the old X-men comics and the cartoon where they explain she's one of the most powerful and destructive mutants alive, but she constantly bites back on her power to keep it in check. Hell chick can f up the weather pattern of an entire world!

Gambit or Nightcrawler, not a bad idea at all! I am organising Kurt to be attacking multiple people, but it'd be neat for Spidey to blindside him. Cheers! As for comics, I'm the same mate. I'll be picking up Spider-Woman, Extraordinary X-Men and Hopeless' Uncanny X-Men (LOVED his run on Magneto), but that'll be it for me.
Oh, don't worry about line-ups. This is a tester for my long-term dio project, and thus any X-Men character is on the table! As for the photo shoot, I'm leaning towards Kurt or Remy for sure due to their agility, and I'm perplexed as to why I didn't consider them earlier. Cheers BM! Ah unfortunately I'm planning for Storm to head off against Sentry (between you and me, she's got this), though yes, Ororo owes Parker pain. As for comics, I agree and much prefer buying TPBs, but that allows for the possibility that a comic you want to support may be cancelled before the first volume is released. :/ (Iron Patriot as a recent example) Guess I'm going with Nightcrawler then! Cheers everyone for the input. As for "All-New" Hulk, what's happening with him? From what I've heard, they're introducing a new character into the mantle? Smells like another Red-Hulk storyline to me.. Just say Ant-man a few moments ago and it it was phenomenal movie !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As for the topic about Print VS digital. it's the same thing i always tell people when this topic comes up. Where is the collect-ability with digital? i discovered digital comics as of last year, i was impress at the fact i can put a whole volume, quite a few TPB, and or just numerous different series on a flash drive and carry them to work. digital is good for the tech geek people or just want to read here and there. a real collector will continue to collect the paper version. I'm not seeing any digital copies of comics ever getting the values that amazing fantasy # 15, Avengers # 1 and X-men # 1. Comics are not just for reading but are also an investment if need be. Love the way this one turned out, just seemed like the kind of thing Spidey would do for a laugh.

Then there are the readers like me. I grew up with physical comics but would MUCH prefer to move to a digital system as I have lost all interest in the collection aspect and just want to read the stories. Plus I am running out of room for physical issues. Those problems have kept me (and many others based on reading posts around the web) from making the jump to digital and continuing to buy their products. I currently buy using Previews orders from Midtown. The discount is less than I would pay for either physical or digital at release and in the case of Marvel, I still get a digital code. However, if I could do the same Previews ordering through Comixology, get a discount for agreeing 3 months in advance to buy the issues and save archives of my comics to my hard drive that I can then read in another reader should I choose, I would make the jump right away. As it stands, I am considering stopping again because of the mentioned issues. Quote:

The webbing is actually from the Wal-mart exclusive Legends Amazing Spider-man and they really need to just throw those extra web lines in with every single forthcoming spider-man figure (imo).

No worries, man. Honestly, this is a breath of fresh air, I agree with most of your sentiments.

Younger generations are digitally focused. It's a fact of life. Until a system is in place that offers a fair (read less than print due to no cost of materials, shipping, etc) price and free usage to download and keep your digital issues or use them in a preferred digital reader they are not going to see an upswing. Marvel and DC have learned nothing from the years upon years of knowledge garnered by digital music.

lol You are doing much better than me. Half of the stuff talked about on this board, I have no clue about. 2008-10 backwards? I'm golden...Depending on what I hear, from people I consider to have tastes similar to mine, I'll pick up the TPB. But even then, I have found X-men vs Avengers, Infinity, and Age of Ultron all to be trash. Thanos Imperative was ok. The only current book I'm doing is Silver Surfer. If there's a Surfer book, I will come... |
