I know this is nothing new, but I thought maybe we could report some of these figures here, and show a comparison between real and knockoff/fakes.
I have been watching these lately and I noticed some sellers in China, and Brazil are flooding ebay with fake action figures. I have seen a lot of BAF toys (Groot as of late), Deadpool, JLA, and Avengers toys being sold loose and all from China. Just as a heads up to new collectors I'd advise you look very carefully at what you buy.. The two I have seen being sold as real figures are loose build a figure (BAF) Groot toys, and that one is hard to spot unless you really look at the pictures and compare it to a real one since they don't come packaged anyways. The other is any 6 inch or smaller Deadpool being sold loose. My advise is read their feedback and even if its good look at their negative feedback. I'd avoid them if they have any reports of fake item at all, and also check if their items are being sold as PRIVATE listing in their feedback. The listing can be seen as private on the right side of the screen after you open their feedback page up. If its listed as PRIVATE then nobody can see what the item was that the previous buyers reported as fake. I'm sure you can probably ask here as well if you are concerned. I know not everyone can't run to a local shop and buy these figures, and are left with having to go to ebay for some of these older toys. Last edited by iLLest; 08-04-2015 at 03:32 PM.. |

I feel like they should notify the buyer that it's a knock off and not the real thing, like put it in the name or something that it's a knock off. I mean they're usually a good deal cheaper than the real thing would be anyway so trying to lie and pass it off as the real deal is just false advertising.

Well I don't give a shit. I bought a knock off Legends Red Hulk, as good as the real thing if not better. Who cares if it's still the figure you want? Groot has different, lesser articulation to the Legends BAF so we know it's knock-off, but if it's literally the same figure just made by a chinese guy in his basement yet still Hasbro quality we shouldn't care at all, espescially at the price you're buying them for.

some bootlegs are a lot better than the real thing. i buy the bootleg lego mini-figures and they are awesome. especially since you can get characters that lego will only do as exclusives or free giveaways at cons...

overheard a convo about this over the weekend at the show...
guy was saying that some guys LOVE to collect the bootlegs... the only concern voice was whether or not it was cheaply made..otherwise...they love looking for things "out of the norm"...or better or a close equivalent to things that are out there

Yeah, I'm all for the bootlegs. 90% of the time, if it's from china, it's going to be a bootleg, but most of them are the same plastic, the same mold, and the same paint. Hell, my red she-hulk I got for 7 bucks was totally worth it. She rules.

There is an entire sect of extreme bootleg collectors. Spider-Man like figure with a Batman like symbol, that type of thing. Google "bootleg toy collection" sometime..... A world unto itself

Dammit, why hasn't anyone mass produced a bootleg MU Solid Vision already! I could care less if it's a bootleg as long as it doesn't have poor quality. These people have the ability to mass produce bootlegs that are the same quality as the original versions of their figures and sometimes even better so they should do it with the more rare figures like Vision and Anti-Venom. And there has to be at least one serious collector that wants the things we want that just aren't given to us by the big companies like Hasbro out there that has the ability to mass produce variants that we will never get or something of the sort! One Arker already brought this up and came into contact with someone who has access to this stuff I believe.
EDIT: Well, actually the LEGO bootleggers that make the really good ones that LEGO won't deliver to the general public have already accomplished this. I don't mind getting myself a Solid Vision even if he's in some packaging that says something like 'Super Action Figure' as long as it's like the real thing. Hell, I would actually even find that packaging cool.

Star Wars Black Series 6" Darth Vader and Stormtrooper surfaced recently as substandard bootlegs. Unfortunately, without examining the photos closely, a person couldn't be blamed for jumping on them in the cheapest search results. They're Chinese, of course.
The box is amusing. Check out the box if you want to see a truly sad attempt to reproduce the unique Star Wars logo / typeface. You'd think they could at least get the spelling right, but no... I inadvertently bought a bootleg Iron Man MK43 a few weeks ago, thinking I was getting a loose authorized version second-hand. It's surprisingly good in sculpt and shiny detailed paint work. Considering that I paid about US$15, I won't complain, but I wouldn't encourage it for others, because the joints are barely flexible, and when you manipulate them, the nice paint flakes off. The figure is okay as long as you leave it in a standing position and not much else. It doesn't come anywhere near the quality of my Figma MK7, but they look great standing together. Nevertheless, if/when I see an at-least-as-good authorized version that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, I mean to jump on it. IMO, bootlegs are still only bootlegs. They're kind of fun to try, but it's unrealistic to expect all the same standards as a premium licensed collectible. |

So I was at a Con about a month ago and spoke to one specific dealer in great lengths. He had the red Deadpool and Blue Deadpool loose and one Red Deadpool in package (Toybiz). I said is that Blue one the real deal or a KO? He smiled, picked it up and said I get these for under $20 buying in bulk and anytime someone asks I tell them that I got it from a chinese ebay seller, but most people will pick it up and say "wow blue deadpool for $40 I didn't even know this existed" and will purchase it on spot no questions asked. He showed me a bag of 5 or 6 of both red and blue pools after the story.
This same guy sold me the Green Mandarin 3.75" IM2 figure on card for $15 while having the same figure loose for $20. I said why charge less for the packaged figure than the loose ones? He said I will sell 2 loose figures for every carded one. He said it was MU specific, but there are larger numbers of people looking to display them loose than on card. So his prices reflected that. Weird stuff, but I just wanted to give a heads up that the Bootlegs are not just on ebay anymore, vendors are also purchasing these things for resale. @Kamatayan I think the Solid Visions did have a Bootleg KO floating around for a few years after it released. They were being sold without his cape. About 3 years ago I purchased my Vision for a good deal off ebay, only to discover his cape was actually a painted Adam Warlock cape, so I am fairly sure the Solid Vision I have in my display is actually one of these KOs. I have since replaced his cape with a cast of the original from Vort. |

That's true, I saw a guy selling the KO Hulkbuster from a while back at the LFCC for £20. I think I bought mine for £8.
