Hey guys, I'm going to start collecting Marvel Legends figures and other 6 inch figures as well. Today, I went to Target and Walmart and they both had White Tiger and Vision, 2 figures I definitely want but I noticed that they each had a lot of defects in the paint applications. Do you guys buy them regardless of the paint defects? Like the White Tiger had like almost grey scratches on some of the body where it's supposed to be white. I don't feel comfortable buying figures online because I never know if ill be getting it with paint defects or not so I tend to just check my local stores but I haven't been able to find the ones I want without messed up paint jobs.

Well...in all honesty, I think buying figures with minor paint defects is something that we as collectors have all done at some point, because we know that that there are instances where you honestly might not see something again, and to wait and hold out for the "perfect" figure is a bit unrealistic. Also, if some paint defects aren't too bad (like say a bad glob of paint in the hair or some crooked eyes) they can be easily rectified with a little bit of paint.
White Tiger does have grey scratches on her body, but that's a part of her costume (unless of course, there are some lines that should not be there...) As for Vision, paint apps are ALL over the place with that guy, especially on the eyes. Thankfully, both characters aren't quite flying off the shelf, at least in my area, so hopefully it's a similar situation where you are, and you'll be able to pick and choose accordingly. |

Personally, paint problems on figures, especially on so called "collector-aimed" figures, drive me absolutely crazy. Absolutely. Crazy.
I obsess over them and often spend WAAAAYYY too much time needlessly focusing on tiny blemishes. Unfortunately, paint and QC issues are just an unfortunate aspect of our hobby. Like Trivial Psychic said, sometimes holding off for a figure with better paint means missing out on that figure. Sadly, that happened to me with a few of the figures from ToysRUs's rare Jubilee wave of Marvel Legends. My approach is to pick the best looking one available at the moment, and do my best not to obsess over whether or not ones I may see later have better paint. Honestly, sometimes it's a struggle, due to my obsessive personality. On occasion, I will pass on a figure in the hopes of finding one with better paint if it's a figure that I feel absolutely certain I'll find again. Today, for instance, I passed on a Thundra from the Hulk Buster wave, since I feel that I won't have any trouble finding another one, possibly with better paint, in the near future.

The last part is the absolute truth. A lot of it lies in the character you are looking for. When I was hunting down the Guardians of the Galaxy wave for my GF, I cannot tell you how many times I passed on Starlord, Iron Man, and even Gamora. But once I finally ran into Rocket or Nova...there was absolutely no hesitation because I knew I might never run into those figures again outside of Ebay or the occasional local toy show, and at a much higher price. |

Pretty much what the others have said. If I know a figure is hard to find I will not fret about the paint apps as much unless it is just something really bad. Like the Legends Thundra and Valkyrie, I have noticed a lot that have bad paint on the red lips. The Misty Knight figure has well documented eye issues.

It's just frustrating to me because from what I've noticed, Hasbro has no issues of paint applications with the Star Wars Black series or their Transformers lines. I honestly only want probably 4 or 5 Legends figures dating back when they started the Captain America wave up until now. I've seen White Tiger probably 2 times. One looked like the ankle joint was nearly broken and the one I saw at Target yesterday had grey scratches all over the body that were not supposed to be there.

If it's a figure that I think will be hard to find, I will buy one with bad paint flaws and keep it in the package and tape the receipt to the back of the package. That way I can return it if I find one with better paint and if it is that hard to find then at least I have one. I have been customizing for several years and I can usually fix most minor problems like wonky eyes and stuff like that.

Welcome to never having any money!
I agree about paint app. I've been trying to get a BS 3.75" Chewie for weeks but every one I look at is cross eyed, so the hunt continues. |

Does anyone ever find the Cap series Black Widow? I want that figure so badly, I've checked all my local stores except Toys R US. Most of my local stores have the updated current waves in stock but I'm having a hard time finding the Cap series and the series with Scarlet Witch and Captain Marvel... Do you think they'll do a movie series Scarlet Witch for Legends and a Captain Marvel series for when the movie comes out? If so I can wait but that Black Widow is like so perfect!
