Age of Apocalypse is a very cool story and was the original alternate reality to have a long running book before the Ultimate universe. Some parts are very in your face though about how much of a different world it is and a deal of characters are shockingly countered to their main selves or they just die. Still a fairly nice read though. Spoilers for the AoA comic story My biggest issue with AoA has always been the ending of its main story, they don't go into it a lot for various reasons but I guess that reality's Apocalypse is a lot weaker than most others are because in the end all it takes is Magneto to temporarily end his life. Of course then Apocalypse takes Weapon-X's body and mind as his own and gets Magneto back but that doesn't happen for years and in a different title. Still Apocalypse is a world ending threat, basically the X-Men's Thanos, and most every medium presents him this way but I guess they had to do something to let the good guys get a win in what was a very bleak and dark reality. End Spoilers

the Clone saga was also something i really enjoyed and had some of the actual issues but never completed the entire story. especially how they all intertwined with Amazing,Web of, Spectacular, Spider-Man and i believe it was almost like an entire year event or something for spider-man. |

oh the Age of Apocalypse....IMO the best storyline to come from the X-men post Claremont's first run. It's all downhill from there. Though I still thought the latter 90's were decent, and there were other good spots, it's just nothing ever has hit that high mark since. Enjoy the reading!
I've been really enjoyed the stuff I've been reading this month from the 80s and I want to read the entire run Claremont did along with what I loved in the 90s with X-Cutioner's Song and stuff. Actually, I think I quit the books just before Onslaught came into play. These are actually the first two Omnibuses I have ever owned that are in hard cover and they are awesome. I love all of the extra goodies they give you in them, especially with the Claremont volume having even the letters page in it. That was unexpected and something I never thought I would see done. I know they are rereleasing Volume 2 later on this year and Volume 3 just came out, but I really hope there is a fourth volume at some point. I can't wait to read the stuff before the Dark Phoenix Saga, but first, I need to finish Fall of the Mutants. I have one issue of X-Factor to read along with the side stories that deal with the Four Horsemen. I'm pretty much trying to stick with the Epic Collections for everything else. They have been great because I get a ton of stories be it a major storyline or stand alones, which is great since I'm tired of trades just collecting some major event and then being done with it. Unfortunately, they haven't done the clone saga for Spider-Man yet.

I'm not a fan of the modern stuff from X-Men. I lost interest in X-Men around 98 outside of the movies and Evolution, and every time I thought it might be cool to get back into it, something made me change my mind. I don't like the idea of Scott being a villain. Nor his being married to Emma. I don't like the whole thing about there being only like 100 mutants left. I also don't like Prof X being dead for the fourth time. That ship sailed.

Out of SDCC my favorite reveal was easily Jim Lee Cyclops. So dope. Angela and Jessica Jones are Tight but I kinda wish they had justa plain and bland Jessica from the max series too, in my dreams it would come with alt heads with shades and no shades, a pack of smokes and a bottle of Jack.

According to people on TFW2005, the Hasbro SDCC stuff is going on sale August 9th, which is a Tuesday. I already know I will not be able to get online that day so I just went the eBay route (of which I am a little ashamed).
That being said, if anyone is looking for the SDCC Spider-Man, let me know. I don't plan on keeping him. I might sell off Sandman too, I'll have to see him in hand before I make up my mind. |

I have a whole slew of stuff to open. My mom was here for my birthday (yesterday) for the past few days so I have not even taken stuff out of the shopping bags yet. Love having a mom who was fine with sitting in the car and reading her book while I stopped into a few stores while we were on the other side of KC.
I will post up some haul stuff when I get home from work tonight. |

Some thoughts:
Packaging: - Very nicely done, has little velcro bits on it so you can make a little box window thing that shows them all in the packaging and with Eel, Electro and Hobgoblin art on the top to make a sort of diorama look - The plastic bubble thing has these figures in REALLY TIGHT. Like if you want to take them out but at some stage want to put them back, I don't know if you will be able to without damaging the bubble. I had to rip parts of it to get the figures out, and was worried about paint scratching off. As a result, some of the limbs are warped and will need reheating to reshape. - The prison pen background is removable and can be used as a diorama! A very nice touch. Abomination: - REALLY REALLY NICE figure. The green is so dark, almost teal like. The dark wash is very nice throughout, but very thick on the armoured parts. - One of his ears was warped so I reshaped it with a hairdryer. - WAAAAAY better look than the Cap wave one Sandman: - If you've got Absorbing Man, you know what this one is like - NO EXTRA PARTS  - The veins on his torso are unsightly and shouldn't be there, but not a big deal - The stripes are PERFECT. Why couldn't we get them this well applied on other figures? Like Absorbing Man's pants? - Headsculpt is nice. Don't really like the teeth that much. The hair is perfect, and has a brown wash over the same light brown of the rest of him Purple Man: - Least interesting of the bunch, but great figure. Regular suited body again. - Looks straight out of the comics - Had a warped right arm, and the eyebrows missed the mark. The right one is completely above where it should be.... Dreadknight: - Best of the bunch, perfect in every way, apart from the bent winged ear which I fixed - Has Bucky Cap boots and bucaneer glove cuffs, which are movable pieces. - Cape is new, plugs in and looks great - Right hand has up/down wrist hinge, left one has regular hinge in middle of wrist. So right hand is meant for the weapons - Sword is the same we've seen with Zemo, lance is nice and kind of futuristic. Enchantress: - Very nice figure, but absolutely tall as f***. Between Bucky Cap and Reaper height. - Exact same body as Scarlet Witch - Headsculpt is THE BOMB. Incredible. Bright red lipstick and green eye shadow. Love the headpiece and hair, which has a tan wash - Deco is nice, little bit smudged on one part. The arms has a nice shiny metallic green, and the elbow disc is painted to match, but comes off right after you articulate them.... - Skirt does not hinder leg articulation in anyway and looks great! Spider-man - Totally meant to be Bagley based. I wouldn't say McFarlane. Just going by the spider logo and the eyes. - The eyes look really menacing, too scowly. The head is lacking some web lines in my opinion - Comes with no extra hands, Pizza Spidey hands DO NOT FIT! The pegs are the same as Speed Demons, Iron Fists and Reilly Spideys. - The legs split possibly the furthest out of any from this mold we've had yet. Only slightly more than Reilly Spidey, but still more. And that's it as far as I can think. |

I have to say that the Sandman you have next to the SDCC one is so much better. Hopefully the regular paint job will be better.

I am green with envy right now. Seeing these really close up, I agree with Dr. Kain, WTH on that sandman..... I actually like the Purple Man from your pics but that's just my want for a figure of him. Can't wait to see Enchantress and Dreadknight. Totally expected Enchantress to be mostly a repaint of SW so no surprise there, I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

Yeah I'll also give my thoughts on the SDCC set as soon as I get back to Houston. I've got tons of Legends to talk about when I get back since I got the Apocalypse BAF, the Raft box set and the entire Space Venom wave sans Ultimate Peter Parker at Comic-Con.

So for Spidey, his legs split at around 5 inches wide. Pizza Spidey's are about 4 inches at best, and Reilly Spidey's which were the best ones for that before this one came along, split at 4.5 inches.
So by far this is an improvement on Spidey's articulation! Still nowhere near where we want them to be but good nonetheless. |
