NECA Lone Ranger. He has been a muse of mine beyond all proportion to any charms the 2013 film might have boasted.

I used to have that Lone Ranger figure. Pretty nicely made, although the likeness seemed a little off. I also wonder how durable the rubber crotch pieces on NECA figures are over the years. It seems like they will decay over time. And they tend to warp if you pose your figure for long periods.

How do you not know about the Lone Ranger?! He dates back to the 30s, not knowing who he is is like not knowing who Zorro is. I guess you could call him a proto-superhero, he fights injustice and possesses uniquely good skills.

The Shadow predates the Phantom by about 6 years. I guess it also comes down to what exactly meets "superhero" criteria because we could go all the way back to Hercules or other ancient myths. Zorro was highly influential in forming the masked man concept, then came the Shadow, Lone Ranger, Green Hornet, and the Phantom. Superman in 1938 really was the first breakout character with actual significant powers which kicked off the superhero world as we now know and love.

He would actually be the first comic superhero since all other notables who predate him started in either radio or written pulp as where he debuted in a comic strip. So yeah if we're strictly looking at comic-originating characters it would be Mandrake the Magician and then Phantom shortly after.

I finally found out where this BAF is from the other day. A very obscure toy line that I don't know any of the characters from except I think—was it Madman that was in this wave?

Yeah, it was all indie comic book characters. Their Monkeyman BAF is brilliant.
