Upon looking at the panel again, I think people are taking the lackluster reveal of Black Bolt the wrong way. It's not a knock on the character or the toy, and lots of people want a chance to get a new Black Bolt and will be excited. But at that panel people were all hyped for new and exciting never before seen figures, especially after building it up with those nice Entertainment Weekly photos from the Black Panther movie. But then, Hasbro followed it up with a picture of the new Black Bolt. And then another Namor. And then...nothing. They didn't even show off the actual Black Panther figure of all things. It was a huge presentation fail on Hasbro's part, and it killed the crowd.
Also I showed that Defenders box set to my wife last night, she totally said exactly what you said. At first I wanted to defend the set, but looking at it again, Hasbro really phoned it in here to make a cheap figure set in a fancy box for Amazon. For what it's worth...Black Panther, Black Bolt, and Namor is a pretty exciting line-up IMO. That said, I'm not the biggest MCU guy and if I were, I'd totally be crestfallen at that reveal. It's not that hard to empathize with others, you just have to be willing to put yourself in their shoes. |

Maybe they'll do a Walgreens Silver Surfer and reuse the body for a classic Iceman.

I agree that E. Weekly and the Panther trailer raised expectations significantly, but I would stop short of presupposing exactly what people were feeling at the BP con reveal without asking them first to at least develop some background perspective. That's not an implication that you're off base with your suggestion, it makes sense in the way of trying to remotely understand things. Rather, I'm postulating that we don't really know unless we ask or someone tells us. That was my reasoning for posting the comment to which you responded. I was reading misinterpretations of perfectly reasonable rationales for being underwhelmed by the BP wave. Misinterpretations that were categorizing well articulated viewpoints as some race-based conspiracy clap-trap. No one whose comments I read ever played a race-card scenario. Instead, that was being projected onto people that simply expressed that they'd hoped for more from the reveal.

Thinking about it, I think part of it is the way it was presented. Instead of saying, "Hey, we're not quite ready to show off the X (whatever the number) Black Panther movie figures yet, but we can show you these comic figures in this wave of Kings," it may have been received better rather then what they did.
I'll be honest, oddly enough, my preferred look for Namor is the one we got with the Walgreens version (Which I actually have 2 of), but I'm still glad to see the trunks version and I'll get that version as well, so yay for me. So, to go back to the actual topic, of the "vintage" figures, I'm really looking forward to Widow and Iron Man. Cap except the head looks great too. I never got around to picking up Pizza Spiderman either, so who knows. If they're a lower price point, I'll probably snatch up a lot of them. |

Oh, hellz no!!! The Sunfire/Spider Man 2099/Bullseye body, with swap out cosmic power basting-hands and fists, topped with a slick reflective metallic paint app for Surfer and his board. The board must also offer a number of placement options and new 'Kirby-Krackle' accessories specific to the Surfer would be nice. NO HALF-ASS'ING SURFER

Hell, give me a good picture of the one from the PPT yesterday. I can't even find that. All I can find is the picture that was taken during the panel. Quote:

Oh, someone asked about what was wrong with the newest Iceman earlier. The translucent plastic is what is wrong. His joints are extremely loose and gummy, so he can not stand on his own. He needs to be leaned against something or be attached to a figure stand. Also, it is nearly impossible to keep him in a dynamic pose for more than 5 seconds, and his thigh swivles are frozen on mine.

Classic ANYTHING is ALWAYS preferred. So nearly naked Namor is all good in my book...The submariner doesn't intimidate me and my manhood remains unchallenged! Hahaha!

I'm hoping the FF figures are easy to find at Walgreens. The ones near me are hit or miss.

Honestly, I'm one of those guys that has a soft spot for the classics.
That means 70s "Yellow Blouse" Luke Cage and Speedo-wearing Namor. I'm still disappointed that the recently released Electro and Vulture weren't their classic looks, even though they look absolutely ridiculous by today's standards. The lone exception is the X-Men. I'll always take 90s X-Men over any other era. |

I don't even collect MCU figures, I just thought the designs for Black Panther (and Gotg 2 and Thor Ragnarok) were unusually attractive and now I want figures of them. I have all of one MCU figure in my collection, a Winter Soldier Black Widow as a stand in for comic BW.

Make mine classic Marvel costumes for my favorite characters always with just a very few rare exceptions.
One last thought about the BP wave debate. So its a mistake to include to white characters in it but its alright that both in the comics & especially in the MCU; that they change the race & gender of so many originally white characters? Changing The race of Flash Thompson & MJ along with Liz really put a dent in my enjoyment of the movie. |

I think the creative team themselves stated that they chose those first names for the characters simply to parallel their relationship to Peter in the comics, and that it doesn't necessarily mean that Michelle IS definitively Mary Jane or that Liz IS definitively Liz Allen. Even still, why would them changing their races put a dent in your enjoyment of the movie? Maybe if you were coming from a comic purist standpoint, but even then I'd be more bothered by how all of the characters are such drastic departures from their comic counterpart to begin with. Being white is not integral to any of those 3 characters. |

Eh, I grew up on the 90s X-Men too, but I prefer to go with the versions that have the better stories. It doesn't mean I wouldn't mind a 90s team, but I first want the 70s team.

Hasbro exclusives are on sale on 8/14. If you read the product descriptions, it says 8/14 sale date at the bottom. Just went looking.

I've never had a problem ordering off Hasbro toy shop. The site can be slow, but otherwise it's fine. I recommend making sure your payment info is up to date before you try to buy.

The only ones out of the set I need are Odinson and Ulik. Jane's getting released soon in the Gladiator Hulk wave and I don't really care about the repainted hammer enough to justify buying the whole set for an accessory, so the mass release will do just fine. The other two are more problematic, but I have a feeling we might be seeing Ulik again as a BAF in a future wave.

g, it was done to make the school more reflective of the world today. Seriously, go to a restaurant or a Walmart and look around. You're not going to see wall to wall white people anymore. People can scream about how changing the race is part of some SJW conspiracy but it ignores the simple fact that this is the world we live in today. The same applies to casting Marisa Tomei as Aunt May. 99.99999999999% of teenagers on this planet don't have an aunt that looks like their grandma. Heck, I'm 30 and a few of my aunts are close to retirement age. All of my aunts, and I do mean ALL OF THEM, are closer in appearance to Marisa Tomei and Sally Field than Rosemary Harris. Having an aunt that's the same age as your mom instead of the same age as your grandma is reflective of the world today.
Hopefully this ex did not try to kill Reed Richards. Last edited by hasbroherofan; 07-24-2017 at 07:30 AM.. |
