I think it's more that most retail employees are barely getting paid enough to live working multiple jobs, and certainly not enough to live with any sort of real comfort or security, so the amount of care they have for the job is understandably low. Plus, retail work environments are often garbage for a number of other additional factors aside from that as well, one of the big ones being frequent mistreatment by customers who hold low opinions of them, or who expect unrealistic things from them. For many of those people, they're literally only there because they have to be to live, and for a variety of other reasons, they have no better options for making a living.
TL;DR: maybe don't shittalk retail employees. They already have enough to deal with. The last thing the average retail employee wants to do is deal with an angry customer, so most will actively try to avoid that. But when your average shift consists of you trying to do a 3-man job on your own, being talked down upon by management and being treated like shit by customers simply because you're retail employee, some people just adopt a "fuck it" kind of attitude just to get through the day without losing it. I'm not one of those people, but I understand the frustration, especially given how toxic the work environment often is. Because no matter how hard you work, it's unlikely you'll be recognized for your effort. Then you have to be the scapegoat for when a customer is angry about something that is well beyond your control. Let's not forget having to deal with thieves or robbers (I was actually robbed working the register late at night, other stores in the immediate area were robbed at gunpoint several times since then). Shifts are irregular, so it's often hard to plan your personal life around work, and most retailers don't pay their employees enough to even stay afloat. Many of the employees you see are either going to school, living at home with their parents or working multiple jobs. And yeah, ideally, retail should only be for students trying to earn extra pocket money, but the reality is that so many adults work these jobs because they can't find work anywhere else. But this post has gone on too long, and at the end of the day, this is a forum about toys, so I'll just leave it at that. |

Dang, you guys must have worked for some terrible retailers and store managers. Dumbass customers have always been my biggest frustration. As a store manager, I always try to go out of my way to recognize hard work, and my bosses allow us a good bit of leeway to reward our team. We also pay above market, so that helps keep people in good spirits most of the time.

Pretty Sunspot. It looks like the screaming head is Banshee with Capt. Marvel hair... Is the other one a Human Torch? Ares wave, perhaps?

They are there to help customers first and foremost. I worked in retail for over five years and I made sure to know my customers by name, what their interests were, the times some of them would come in and my department covered video games, movies, music, MP3 players, and car audio. When I go into a store, there is no reason I can not get at least half of the quality of service I provided.

TL;DR: maybe don't shittalk retail employees. They already have enough to deal with. You need to correct something. No one HAS TO BE at any job. You, me, everyone chooses to do what they do for a living. Everyone can also decide to quit a bad job and go and find a better one. So the sob story of having it tough or working in a place where your unappreciated. Well That doesn't exactly bring a tear to my eye. This is not a third world country where you are forced into being or doing something unwillingly. Obvisously these comments all came from my original post about TRU and their lack of stock,no employees to be found etc. I don't have any unreal expectations from store employees, however I DO expect for them to at least do their jobs and do what they are paid for to do. |

If you have bills to pay, then you're going to take what you can get. For a lot of people, that's retail. It's one of the few industries you can break into easily with no experience and no network. As bad as retail may suck, it's preferable to starving to death.

Huh.. I want to say that was a weak Steve Rogers head - but I can't find a reference pic to back it up. Ideas, anyone? @TBM, I'm looking at you...
Regardless, it looks much better with the work that's been done to it and the new hair is great. |

there still is no excuse of being shitty at work especially when your getting paid to assist people with sales questions, ring them up or whatever functions you have at retail stores. Last edited by donmeca2020; 01-17-2018 at 12:51 PM.. |

I do agree that you have a responsibility and a job to do, but I also understand why people would be frustrated and the effect that has on customer service. And that's the side many customers that come into a store don't understand. Employees have bad days and they have off days. At the end of the day, there are people working behind that register or stocking those shelves. If you don't want to deal with the human factor of the retail experience, then shop online.
