I'm surprised you even bothered to respond to my statement. I figured most people knew that when I post, I'm mostly talking to myself...or being cryptically cynical and detached.
I came to the realization years ago when Hasbro announced their plans to release "more Legends in one year than ever before" that there was an inevitable downside to the proclamation. Most people should be aware of the truth to the notion that too much of a good thing is indeed a bad thing. What seemed like largesse on the part of Hasbro was destined to sour (imo) and I asked whether collectors really believed the toy maker would increase their expenditures on manufacturing to a commensurate degree to match their output. Nah, that was never going to happen. Like any other corporation, they were going to pump out more product while spending roughly the same amount of dough resulting in a steady decline in wares. That's businesses - only the uninitiated stumble when trying to grasp this reality. I admonished that quality trumped quantity, but most disagreed, which is fine in the big scheme. Do I think Hasbro with ultimately fail? Of course they will. Everyone does eventually - life holds so many lessons and most of them bite. Do I care if Hasbro fails? Hell no. Toy Biz came before and some muthafucker will come after. At the end of the day I'm a fan of action figures, not Hasbro. Same with these MCU movies - I'm not a fan of Feige, I'm not even a fan of current Marvel, I'm a fan of this particular pantheon of heroes and the comics I read as a kid. Fuck all the other noise. I'd apologize for my language, but it's 2 in the morning, I'm drunk, and I'm riding a long train home from the city after spending time with friends at places I didn't want to go to...so zero fucks are given right now...I'll regret it tomorrow...probably not. |

I did. Went in for 8 basic plus 2 deluxe. Kinda feel I went overboard being this is my first time backing a Kickstarter project. I don't regret it though. I've communicated with the creator a couple of years ago and found out he was a local so I had to throw him my support. Besides, I needed SWAT and mercs for my Legends to beat on.
I feel you on Killgrave. I slept on him when he was reasonably priced because I thought we would get more Netflix characters. Now with the shows being cancelled, I'll doubt if that will ever happen. Too bad Dr. Who figures are 5 inch scale. I would've scooped one up and put the David Tennant head on a Coulson body. Here's hoping for a comic Daredevil wave that includes a re-release of Purple Man. Looks good. Does Goose really need sticky tac to sit upright?

So I know it's the booze and nihilism and I chuckled while mostly taking it in the spirit intended but, uh, let's talk about it? I can't be the only one here that isn't foreseeing the DOOM of Hasbro and Marvel toys due one mediocre wave? Mediocre to some, I guess, I want like half of them. I see waves all the time that have one or two figures I want, and then they come back stronger with some shit that I gots to have yes yes give it oooohh mamacita ... ahem. My point is that there were Rogue One figures still on the shelves here up until a couple of months ago for five dollars and people still didn't want them. If Legends weren't selling really well (at least partly owed to the wildly successful movies), we would not be seeing the sheer maddening number of Legends figures in circulation. I mean holy crap, there were so many waves debuting all at once recently that people here were loudly chafing under the expense wrought by the goddamn magnitude of it all. So the line is probably doing okay, but that's just this guy's assessment. For people that are inexplicably mad about the movies, odds are pretty good that they'll swing back around to something you like. That's the beauty of the line. |

I don't know what you guys are discussing, but I personally think Legends is in trouble once they finish up the 90's X-men and main classic Spiderman characters. I think X-men and Spiderman are the main draw... not the MCU characters or other comic teams or whatever. I remember going to local toy shows hunting Joes and seeing the old Legends Deadpool figures going for $50+ loose before Legends came back in 2011 or whenever they did... now there are tons of Deadpool figures flooding the market. Legends don't really seem to hold value anymore like they used to. And it is not like the old Legends in which there was a need to upgrade your figures with the newer molds... I think this is it. These current Legends figures meet the magically good enough standard... once you complete your teams in 6" scale this time... you are good... don't need to upgrade ever again.

This never would've happened without the Walgreens $13.99 sale on all Marvel Legends. Hasbro did an amazing job. Amazing figure. Wow. Absolutely a must-have.

^ You found the entire wave at Walgreens on sale? Damn... nice score. Haven't seen any figure of this wave at retail yet... not even at Gamestop... saw about 12 six arm Spideys at my LCS though... and only him. LOL. IMO they should have made Silver Sable the double pack no baf figure.

I do agree that some of the waves have been weak overall so far this year, especially compared to last year. Seems like the X waves are consistently the ones with almost or no figures I wanna pass on.
That being said, I actually dont think the 1st Avengers wave is as bad as some have said. Laser, Herc, Maw, and Nighthawk are all grabs for me. The MCU figures in this wave are pretty underwhelming though. |

The store closest to me had nothing but Magiks (like at least 15 of them) for the longest time. The sale completely cleared them out about two weeks ago. Like everything. Zero Marvel Legends left. Then, I went to check in again a couple of nights ago to see if they restocked anything and I was super lucky because they filled in the empty shelf with the Kingpin wave. I've also been lucky enough to see them at my local Walmart recently too. The entire wave is very underrated because Night Thrasher, Puma, Symbiote Spiderman, and Silver Sable are all awesome figures. I'm not a fan of cross eyed Black cat. Not a fan of Red Goblin either. The face on Red Goblin reminds me of an elderly person without their dentures in or a prototypical halloween witch face. Plus the tail on red goblin is awful. It's sits lower that the feet do and tips the figure forward when you try to pose it.

Well, I was going to respond with a clever Conan Obrien Gif, but after about 30mins of fail, I've come to the realization that I've apparently lost image posting privileges here...heh, this place.

For people that are inexplicably mad about the movies, odds are pretty good that they'll swing back around to something you like. That's the beauty of the line. Ahhh....finally someone that's starting to get me. side note...I am pain-bot...and I've been convinced for some time that DTL is Cyborg...I hear Kary Payton whenever I read his comments...no parts of a lie. Buuut, srsly, as Dark will attest to, never take my shit to heart. I'm usually bored, or high, or both. Oh wait...I did say seriously, right? I usually hold my tongue (in cheek...heh) about MCU movies. I don't hate them, I just find that they've become formulaic and a bit stale. Other people, that I consider to be more than reasonable, and not closeted bigots or misogynists harboring disdain for diversity, have made similar claims. The addition of the FF, and more importantly, Surfer, will revitalize my interest. However, I do dislike Feige. I'm tired of 'interpretations' of my favorite stories and characters. I'm tired of packaging aimed more at 'casuals'. Throw we dyed in the wool heads a bone. Make something unabashedly geeky and courageously accurate with corny spandex and outlandish scene-breaking characters. How do you minimize the spectacle of Galactus and Eternity conversing as their true aspects? The answer is you don't; you let that shit all hang out big dick style. But whatever, if they never do it, I'm largely ambivalent. If I want to revisit my initial experience with comics, I've collected trades of most of my favorite story-lines from yesteryear and can just pluck them off the shelf. About Hasbro's Marvel Legends line and this wave in particular, I collect ALL comic canon figs whether I think they're shitty or not. That's what I do. That's what I've done from Toy Biz to Hasbro. I've been one of the few vocal posters stating unequivocally that I will be getting all the comic based figs from this wave (did the same with the similarly lamented Abomination wave)...I've had Herc for almost two months now and will be buying another when the wave hits. But again, I've no stock in Hasbro, so wha da'fuck do I care about whether they go the way of the dodo? And as a consumer who doesn't play favorites, or do brand loyalty (nothing wrong with you if you do, many people do - that's sort of the insidious nature of marketing), I can see the collective drop off. Lately, I've been even noticing it with the much ballyhooed MCU figs. Since Hasbro's bold announcement - what was it, two years ago? - we've seen the quotient of 'good' vs 'okay' vs 'uhhh, nope' fluctuate significantly. It happens organically in the best of cases, but even more so when a company decides to vastly increase its level of production. I'm not predicting a year when Hasbro's Legends line will come to an end, and I'm definitely not predicting an end to Marvel Legends...what I'm noting is 'change'(not always for the better - rehash, and not always for the worse - new body molds). I mean does anyone believe Hasbro will hold this license in perpetuity? Come on... Welp...I've long since crossed over the 'rambling' rubicon...Sooo, next week same time doc? While that's mighty white of you, Dustin, unfortunately, that's not the gif I had in mind.
Do you mean 'classic' Toad? Because, barring artistic license/interpretation, I thought Toad had been forcibly evolved beyond his frumpy potbellied appearance by an alternate reality Stranger (or some such) in that X-men Forever mini...which ever Toad you meant, Hasbro will ride the X-men for all they're worth making Toad's appearance likely. I would have to say, that there has been a decrease in my purchasing of waves:
For example since last year figures I purchased including BAF: 1. Okoye (BAF) 8 figures total purchased 3. 2. Lizard (BAF) 8 figures total purchased 4. 3. Thanos (BAF) 8 figures total purchased 0. 4. Cull Obsidian (BAF) 8 figures total purchased 0. 5. Apocalypse (BAF) 8 figures total purchased 4. 6. Monster Venom (BAF) 7 figures total purchased 3. 7. M'Baku (BAF) 7 figures total purchased 0. 8. Kree Sentry (BAF) 8 figures total purchased 2. 9. Kingpin (BAF) 8 figures total purchased 3. Note: IMO, the waves have been so interesting to me. Also, I am a comic collector, will collect MCU figures, if the figure is to my liking, the Hulk Buster, but as of late, no MCU figures have been capturing my interest. 1. Okoye (BAF) 8 figures total purchased 10 2. Lizard (BAF) 8 figures total purchased 9 3. Thanos (BAF) 8 figures total purchased 11 4. Cull Obsidian (BAF) 8 figures total purchased 9 5. Apocalypse (BAF) 8 figures total purchased 13 6. Monster Venom (BAF) 7 figures total purchased 9 7. M'Baku (BAF) 7 figures total purchased 11 8. Kree Sentry (BAF) 8 figures total purchased 14 9. Kingpin (BAF) 8 figures total purchased 9 lolz |

@Dark
...been off my meds for the last couple of days. I also don't care anymore about the conventions here. I initially hated the show, especially after Young Justice demonstrated what Titans could have been, but one weekend, when spending time with someone I was dating and her son, I watched hours (marathon) of it. I learned that day that it was a really funny toon....and, yeah, it's become a guilty pleasure that I now view on my own - I'm a kid at heart! |

Well after a week in Spain and not seeing anything close to a new Marvel Legends figure I think I need to go on a spending spree! But I do love this list that helps me keep track of what I've done the last year or so...
1. Okoye (BAF) 8 figures total purchased 10 2. Lizard (BAF) 8 figures total purchased 9 3. Thanos (BAF) 8 figures total purchased 11 4. Cull Obsidian (BAF) 8 figures total purchased 9 5. Apocalypse (BAF) 8 figures total purchased 13 6. Monster Venom (BAF) 7 figures total purchased 9 7. M'Baku (BAF) 7 figures total purchased 11 8. Kree Sentry (BAF) 8 figures total purchased 14 9. Kingpin (BAF) 8 figures total purchased 9 lolz Note: About the decline or the signs of a decline in Marvel Legends...I hope that Hasbro does succeed, because been collect see the Toybiz days, and to me, Marvel Legends are it, Arkers...Hasbro, as of late, has been giving us, for the most part, a good product. Me, I love all things Marvel, clothes, hats, keychains, if it looks good to me I sport it...I just hope that one day, Hasbro will do a deluxe wave or something, and give us that Blackbird we all want or a real ‘Giant Man’ that all of Marvel Legends fans would drop the dough for...I truly don’t want Marvel Legends to end like Marvel Universe and DC Universe did, which were to great toy lines, IMO!

I think Marvel Legends will be fine. There are always a couple of meh waves each year, usually at the beginning of the year. But it's simply not possible for anyone to be in the zone 100% of the time, even a toy company.

As for the Hasbro Marvel Legends not holding their value, not every TBML sold for $50+. Before the ROML, I bought many of the TB Legends off of eBay and paid anywhere from $10 - $30 per figure for most of my collection. Sure, there were some figures like Deadpool or carded figures from the Sentinel and Giant-Man waves that commanded higher prices. But most of the time when you saw high prices for TBML, it was the seller jacking up the price by claiming that a figure was "rare" when it really wasn't. |

Even your tripping balls takes are better reasoned than most peoples' grasps for logic. If you can figure out how to phrase that skill eloquently, it's resume type shit. It's a discussion worth having, though. I've bought more Legends figures in the past calendar year than ever. And while I definitely would be bummed out if Mattel got the license, it would almost be kind of a relief? I don't even remember how long Hasbro has held the license, at least a decade. The quality has soared and product output has multiplied exponentially in that time, so it's hard to imagine it collapsing right now. Difficult as it is for me to wrap my head around, they'll run out of people to make eventually. I just want a goddamn four foot Galactus before it ends. And Goldballs. Goldballs will herald the end, what a glorious end it shall be. I snapped this to mock some dude on Twitter who was mad about Captain Marvel being so successful, ya'll enjoy.
