Ah! This is awesome! I love the first Starship Troopers movie. This bug looks great.

"Yeah, we can't get the bug to stand on those thin, pointy legs. They keep breaking."
"Well, just put a wall under it, you know, so it looks like it's breaking through it or something. Maybe that'll support it." "Okay!" |

I'd love some great Starship Troopers figures, even 1/6 scale; but this statue is totally out of my price point and also display space. But it looks awesome.

Yup, looks like it's lying down or something.

It's pretty cool but just too damn big... Also just a regular stand would've looked better than that wall as support. It makes the whole thing look overall too busy.

It's a shame no company wants to make (or can license) a 6" scale line based on the film. I'd love a small set of the main characters along with a couple bugs. It would be perfect for NECA to do, but Randy and NECA probably would reject this like so many other popular licenses people keep asking him about that he thinks are too niche or wouldn't sell.

I was excited when I first saw this. Really excited. And then I read "132 pounds". Okay, this thing weighs more than I do. There's no way. And dear God, it's going to be pricey...

The 1997 movie was done well and a lot of fun. I don't understand why the franchise was allowed subsequently to flounder, despite best efforts of Casper Van Dien and friends. It's strange how things like this or Jericho or Babylon 5 take on a life of their own but get shown the executive door when it comes to support for taking it to the next level. Who else would love to see a new live action film, a sequel in the spirit of the original, and with some of the original cast and characters?
If somebody does a reasonably-good 6" line with a landing craft and a couple of articulated bugs, I'll be all over it. |

The reason the franchise never took off was because they didn't bring back Verhoeven when they wanted to make the sequel. Troopers had a really long tail with DVD sales and made studio more money on the back end and 5 years had passed. Never got fully behind it and cheaped out with the Direct to DVD cash grab. Statue is insanely heavy and it's too bad they went Traitor of Mars. Alien bug should be wet or glossy and the structure and ground should be matte and weather distressed. This is exactly the opposite. |

I don't think it's totally weird, the film was sort of a flop at the box office and it took a bit of time before it really gathered a cult following.

People didn't understand the film. Critics hilariously didn't get it, taking the fascist future entirely at face value, instead of seeing the war time propaganda film satire it was. Critics also hated the violence, they only go for gruesomeness when its a "true story" or is some realistic serial killer thing. (as opposed to exploitation horror, old mainstream critics tend to hate the genres of sci-fi, fantasy and horror)
