Seibertron reports that a pair of casting calls have recently gone out regarding Transformers 3. While the initial casting call that went out was quite nondescript, the second one specifically calls for extras for Transformers 3. The calls were for still photos in wardrobe, for a potential background role. The two calls were for general military looking men between 18-35, and a second more specific call was looking for men of the same age group who were of Iranian descent (the call specifies "must look like candidate is in Iranian military").
Does this mean there will be some sort of plot thread involving Iran or similar, Iran inspired Middle Eastern country in Transformers 3? Sound off with your opinions on the subject on our 2005 Boards by clicking on the discuss button. |

Three new Transformers books have been found listed online by 2005 Boards member NIBMRatchet. The three new books come under the upcoming Hunt for the Decepticons iniative that carries on the Movie universe following the Revenge of the Fallen line. The three books are titled Satellite Meltdown, Ratchet to the Rescue, and Buddy Brawl.
Is this, together with yesterday's news that Transformers Animated may be continued in print form, a sign that Hasbro may be broadening their approach to Transformers fiction beyond cartoons and comics? Sound off with your opinion on our 2005 Boards! |

A listing has popped up on Amazon.com for a Drift-centered paperback. The character, first developed and featured during the All Hail Megatron saga by IDW starting in 2008, has already had a Spotlight issue. Now, it appears that writer Shane McCarthy (with Lee Ferguson) will be providing more information about the new character through the paperback. The 104-page paperback is due out, per Amazon, on November 10th. There is no confirmation that this will be a trade of an upcoming, unannounced Drift mini-series or a stand-alone paperback book. The story description as provided by Amazon is as follows:
What was it that caused one of the Decepticon's most ruthless soldiers to turn his back on the Decepticon army and what is the ancient secret that lies hidden deep within an alien planet? All this and more as the origin of the newest Autobot, Drift, is finally revealed! |

TFW2005 has an early review on another Transformers comic! Today's review is for Bumblebee #4 by IDW Publishing, which will be released in comic book stores tomorrow - Wednesday, March 10th. Bumblebee #4 Credits Publisher: IDW Publishing Written by: Zander Cannon Art by: Chee Colors by: Moose Baumann Letters by: Neil Uyetake Editor: Andy Schmidt Associate Editor: Denton J. Tipton Covers Cover A – Art by Guido Guidi and Colors by Josh Burcham Cover B – Art by Chee and Colors by Moose Baumann Retailer Incentive – Art by Chee Review Bumblebee #3 ended with Bumblebee stating ““You deserve a goodbye, at least”. After a disappointing third issue, Bumblebee fulfills his statement. Bumblebee #4 not only wraps up the four-part mini-series covering Bumblebee’s early days as leader of the Autobots following Optimus Prime’s surrender to Skywatch in Transformers #1 but also works towards redemption after Issue #3. The final issue in the mini-series revolves around Bumblebee protecting his new friend Serena Bharwaney, her father Sanjay, and a device developed for Skywatch by Sanjay against the Decepticon Skywarp. The issue and writer Zander Cannon recover from a slow and uninteresting Issue #3 with an issue that offers action and explanations for motivation on all sides. Bumblebee learns what it means to be a true leader. We learn what Skywarp is up to and how that plan will affect both the Autobots and human. All human forces have some motivation to act in this issue, from Colonel Horiuchi to Lt. Klonowski. Even Sanjay Bharwaney’s actions have been motivated by an event from the past involving the Transformers! The final, long-awaited showdown between Bumblebee and Skywarp is more than just a passing scene, lasting about half of the issue. The final payout of the battle is worth the wait, with Bumblebee acting like a leader should. Meanwhile, at least one human shows his, well, human side in treating the Transformers like they are more than playthings. Chee’s art is consistent with what has been seen throughout the entire mini-series: stylized with the washed-out feel. Whereas the first few issues seemed to be missing high-action panels or “money-shots”, Issue #4 had several moments such as the full page panel seen in the five-page preview of Bumblebee jumping off the overpass. The issue concludes with some art that appears to attempt to a tie-in to the art of Ongoing series, but doesn’t make sense chronologically. In a mini-series that had its ups and downs, both the writer and artist pulled out their best effort for Bumblebee #4. While it may not go down among fans as the greatest mini-series or arc of the IDW-universe, it offers the fans a satisfying conclusion. In the end, the team behind the mini-series delivered on Bumblebee’s promise of a goodbye. Mission accomplished, Bumblebee. |

Images of what is quite possibly concept art for Transformers 3 has surfaced, originating from Frankell Baramdyka, who has done some work on the Transformers movie games for Activision/Luxoflux and High Moon Studios and has worked on movies such as Chronicles of Riddick and Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas. The possible concept art suggests that Earth may not be on the only non-Cybertronian planet seen in the third movie and also shows of a few new possible characters (including some familiar terminology!). If this is official concept art for the movie, it also confirms the production team's promise that the movie will dig deeper into the Transformers mythos.
As you view the images, keep in mind that this is unconfirmed concept art for Transformers 3. If Frankell Baramdyka has been hired to create concept art, it is still possible that none of the backgrounds or new characters will be used. Check out the images by clicking on the thumbnail to the left. |

Word is out that Kevin Dunn, the actor who played Ron Witwicky in Michael Bay's Transformers films, is currently in negotiations to reprise his role in the third installment.
News of this comes from HollywoodReporter (where they mistakenly referred to Dunn's character name as Sam Witwicky), there was no further information related to the upcoming Transformers sequel. The only thing we can take from this article is that we can most likely expect to see a return of Sam's parents (or at least his father) in the next Transformers movie. |

TFW2005 staff Seth Buzzard had a chance to sit down with Activision and High Moon Studios rep Matt Tieger yesterday at GDC 2010. They were kind enough to show us some gameplay for the upcoming War For Cybertron video game, introduce some new characters, and answer some questions. Read on below to check it all out! Tuesday night I headed down to San Francisco to meet with Matt Tieger of High Moon Studios. Matt is the Game Director of the upcoming Activision game Transformers: War for Cyberton. He walked me through a few sections of the game and answered a bunch of questions. Here is a rundown of what I learned. Characters have two weapons; different weapons can be found and picked up during levels. Each character also has a special ability. The special abilities they showed off were as follows. Optimus (he isn’t a Prime yet) who had a war cry. This gives Optimus a temporary boost making his attacks more powerful, the cry also has an area of effect granting the boost to nearby allies. Next was Ratchet who has a repair beam that, as you might guess, heals friendly units. Finally we see Soundwave’s power which was to make walls of sound that could be used for cover. Each level will have a squad of 3 characters, you will be able to choose which of these you want to play as at the start of each level with the computer controlling the other two. You will not be able to issue commands to the computer controlled characters. They will attack enemies and use their special abilities as they see fit. Matt Tieger assured us that they made sure the computer controlled characters are helpful and will not just spend the fight running into walls or putting themselves into unnecessary danger. More interesting than having computer controlled buddies is all the levels support 3 player co-op allowing your friends to hop into your game at any time and take control of one of those other characters. Unlike the Revenge of the Fallen game transformation is not handled by holding down a button to stay in vehicle mode. This time transformation is toggled, press a button to transform, press it again to change back. This looks to allow much better control of the vehicles. The ground type vehicles are all hover cars not unlike how Wheeljack and Bumblebee where shown to be in the first episode of G1. As hover cars they can slide sidewise and are capable of movement a wheeled car isn’t. The drawback is they aren’t especially fast. When you want some speed the hover disks flip down to become wheels. In this mode you move much faster and control more as you would expect in a driving game. Although they were nice guys and very friendly the PR folks in the room didn’t want Matt talking about multiplayer just yet and when I asked if he could tell me anything about the custom character feature they put the kibosh on that question. At the beginning of the story Optimus does not have the title of Prime and is not the leader. A character I did not get to see named Zeta Prime leads the Autobots. Characters I got to see as being playable were: Optimus (truck), Bumblebee (sport car), Ratchet (truck), Megatron (tank), Soundwave (truck class looked sort of like a van), Breakdown (muscle car) and Starscream (jet). Characters I saw but were not playable (at least in the parts I saw, maybe they are in other parts of the game) were: Skywarp, Thundercracker, Jetfire (all jets) and Omega Supreme who’s alt-mode was not shown. Omega Supreme was massive. To show just how big he was they had Soundwave stand next to him and poor Soundwave barley came up to Omega Supreme’s ankle. Omega Supreme and Trypticon will be the only “cityformers” seen in the game. There is a plan to have DLC for the game but it was too soon to give any hint what form it might take. Matt Tieger wanted to update the look of the characters but wanted to make sure they were still recognizable. To test this he would show concept art to his kids and ask them “who’s this?” As long as the kids could still identify the character they knew they were ok. The decision to make toys based on the games characters came several months into the games' development and was seen as a huge vote of confidence to the game makers that they were on the right track from Hasbro. I did not get to play the game myself as it was an early build and they haven’t settled on a final control scheme but what I saw of the game play, story, the Unreal Engine powered graphics and an attention to detail - like having the butt of Optimus’ gun the same shape as his gun in G1 - I walked away having a good feeling that this could be the best Transformers video game yet. TFW2005 would like to thank Activision and High Moon Studios for their time and the chance to see the actual game mechanics in action. Transformer War for Cybertron is due out late spring/ early summer 2010. Pre-Order a copy at your favorite game store today!
