Why does hasbro choose different styles for the different toylines.
like for MU they use the thigh swivels and neck joints and for g.i joe they use the metal leg joints or for star wars 98% of the time they use t-crotch Why dont they ever combine the styles like MU figures with the joe leg joints or star wars figures with MU leg articulation. and why is 1 line more expensive then the other Star wars-$4.99 G.i joe-$6.99(i think) MU-$7.99 star wars is cheapest g.i joe has more accessories and the metal leg joints and stands MU has more character selection(i think) and sometimes superior articulation and stands So Why??? if its because the team that works on MU doesnt work on joes than why dont they have a little get together or something and be like "hey we should combine our work" |

Sometimes even the MU movie team is different than the MU team. But as of late they seem to be syncing up choices better. Sometimes not. As for the price difference. That's the cost of making them, plus the license rights cost for whatever deal they have. Marvel and Star wars for example may have different license costs, especially when you consider they've had the star wars rights for decades now, whereas marvel is moderately recent. Then there's the cost of sculpts, manufacturing, amounts of plastic, etc too including cost of the type of plastic. They do cross-pollinate some lines, but over all there's your answer for the different costs on a business standpoint of a major corporation that handles everything from baby toys to board games and various other action figure lines. |

Nicely done, Snow.
A couple things to add: Each design team are their own division within Hasbro and act independently of each other (all reporting to higher-ups), as Snow said. And sometimes designers will be inspired by other designs or innovations (either from within Hasbro or outside the company), but the influence is not immediately apparent due to the time frame for toy manufacturing (about two years from concept art to mass production). And even then, other factors may prevent one designer incorporating certain ideas into their own designs. Also, each team has a specific budget laid out based on licensing, materials, price point and labor costs. Keep in mind the factories that produce MU aren't necessarily the same ones who do G.I.Joe, Transformers, or any other Hasbro product. Also, the Hasbro-owned properties don't have any licensing associated with them. Since they're in-house, more of the budget can be put towards design and manufacturing. Combine that with reusable parts and accessories and that is why Joes are usually armed to the teeth and have better design construction across the board. You may notice that both Star Wars and MU only have a few accessories per figure (and they tend to be generic and/or repetitious).

...and Star wars figures are usually a comparable price to Marvel and GI Joe figures- Wal-Mart and Target just have them on a special price reduction right now, probably to clear out some old inventory before the new Star Wars lines start this fall.
