Thanks to sister site TFW2005 Boards member FMA1987 for reporting that Michael Bell has played a part in GI Joe Renegades as Duke's dad, with BJ Ward as his mom, and Duke himself is played by Jason Marsden! The following was posted today on Bell's Facebook page:
Michael Bell To all my face bud fans. Just did a guest spot on the new Gi Joe animated series. Played Duke's dad.Duke being the ever talented Jason Marsden who incidentally, I directed in the Fox animated " Peter Pan" series way back when he was a mere teen. B J Ward played Duke's mom. What a kick to be back in the saddle again with old friends. Which other veteran GI Joe voice actors will return? |

Lots of details went into the figures as well as the subway... "I wanted to copy the graffiti seen in the cartoon as well but the sculpt of the train made that a little difficult. As I was finishing with that I realised I needed to sign it in some way so I made some more graffiti on the side of the wall behind Cobra Commander" Click the Discuss button for all the pics & details ! ! ! |

Today brings us a behind the scenes look by Bill Merklein at some of the concept art for GI Joe A Real American Hero! This is the origin of some of our fan-favorite figures/characters! In this rare blast from the past, Merklein showed HISS Tank boards members Gyre-Viper and Roshan the concept art he was given as reference for sculpting the figures back in the 80's. Roshan has posted these images online for us to see:
Some of this stuff has been seen before, but a lot of it has not. Although Bill is putting up these items for sale, he felt it was important that everyone get to see these things so they could be enjoyed by the public given that a lot of concept art is bought sight unseen and is never allowed into the public eye. Thanks to Bill for sharing the images with Gyre Viper and Roshan, and to Roshan for posting these images for us to enjoy! Viacom has announced new series slated for Comedy Central for 2010-2011, including a GI Joe parody by King of The Hill writer Blake McCormick, titled Joe Squad:
When these guys are not trying to save the world, they're getting in each other's way and on each other's nerves. Fortunately for Joe Squad, their nemesis Master Snake and his team of Rattlers are just as inept. This animated action-comedy comes from writer Blake McCormick ("King of the Hill") and executive producer Marty Adelstein ("Made of Honor"). Inspiration is drawn from the original Sunbow cartoon and Johnny Quest, with a mature, comedic twist. |

HISS Tank boards member Gyre-Viper has come through with the exceptionally detailed, and very highly anticipated Jungle Viper from wave 2 of GI Joe Pursuit of Cobra! The line is highly anticipated to begin with as evidenced by this ongoing crucial wishlist thread, and the numerous Pursuit of Cobra discussions here at HISS Tank.
Designed by John Warden of Hasbro, this figure shocked the fandom once unveiled last year at JoeCon 2009. It was clear evidence that the bar had been raised. If this is any indication of what we are to get in the near future and beyond, just imagine what the design team will be able to pull off for GI Joe Renegades and/or any other GI Joe line they lay their hands on. The Jungle Viper(Jungle Assault) figure won't be invading your collections en masse until later this fall, but until then, hit the title bar to get an extensive look at quite possibly the Cobra troop builder of the year! |

First off, a huge thanks goes out to sculptor Bill Merklein for passing these images off to HISS Tank boards member Roshan to share with us. What we have here is a rare look into the past of the beloved GI Joe A Real American Hero line, the longest running line in action figure history that even managed to outlast Star Wars at retail! One thing has remained constant about 3-3/4" GI Joes; no matter how long they remain off shelves in retail they've always managed to return(and it looks like they're definitely here to stay). While we presently look forward to the GI Joe Pursuit of Cobra line, what started this 3-3/4" legacy was the A Real American Hero line, a line which Merklein sculpted figures for. Today we can see some of the very 1st sculpts of what went on to be fan-favorite figures!
Here's more information supplied by Roshan: Same deal as the artwork, we were given these by Bill to show them off. The difference here is these are not for sale. These sculpts were all done by Mr. Merklein, and he is keeping the pictures, but he wanted them to be seen by everyone. Look closely at a lot of these many are first draft sculpts that were later changed. Some of the variation highlights:
So what are you waiting for, click on the title bar to check out a very welcome blast from the past! |

Looks like the Toys R Us exclusive Jurassic Park line is getting some air support, with a helicopter compatible with GI Joe(and other figures in the same scale), and a frankenjoe pilot using a GI Joe body(Airborne with a different head, and Scrap-Iron's vest)! HISS Tank boards member Gyre-Viper has posted an image of the prototypes for the currently unnamed helicopter and it's pilot.
The gimmicks for this seem to be missle launchers and a transport and/or capture cage. Click on the thumbnail to the left to take a closer look. |
