Viperkingdom strikes again, this time with an auction for a preproduction sample of Training Snake Eyes from GI Joe Pursuit Of Cobra. This figure came out of the blue and is a frankenjoe using parts from the canceled Training Duke, and Storm Shadow figures. This figure comes with numerous accessories, increasing the play value of the figure without resorting to the implementation of action attack. The inclusion of more weapons & accessories lured many collectors to the Pursuit Of Cobra line, and provides versatility; kids can mix and match to create a Snake Eyes to their liking(or use the parts on other figures).

Jiandan9966 had posted a new auction for a loose Desert Battle Dusty from GI Joe Pursuit Of Cobra wave 2. Maybe it's the lighting, but the figure shown looks more colorful than the one shown here. In any case it's a new look at the figure. Will the figure feature more muted deco like in the previous auction, to fit more in the Desert Battle theme, or is this new Dusty(Desert Battle) sample more indicative of the final product?

One thing that lures both collectors and kids alike to the upcoming GI Joe Pursuit Of Cobra vehicles is the fact that they feature modular weaponry. For example, if retooling the Modern Era Ghost HAWK with futuristic parts wasn't enough, it also comes with new weaponry, which can be put onto the HISS Tank V5! That's not all, you can swap the missle launchers for cannons on the VAMP, and vice versa. Read more about arming the all new HISS Tank V5 by hitting the title bar!

The Direct To Consumer(DTC) line was the 1st modern Joe line that started this trend, and this continued with the Sigma 6 2.5" line. With collectors, it was a more well received gimmick than ones prior, such as Sound Attack, & hidden mini-vehicles. Troynos has posted his photos of the HISS Tank V5 in different configurations, using various swappable weapons from preproduction samples of the following POC vehicles:

In fact, they are no stranger to GI Joe either. 2004 saw the release of a Transformers figure using GI Joe parts named Kicker from Transformers Energon, packed with a bike Transformer named Highwire. Decades prior, the Microchange segment of the Microman line(which predated Transformers), introduced everyday items which were compatible with 3-3/4" figures, and of course, we all knew the legacy that this venerable scale ended up starting. If it weren't for this line, we wouldn't have the long-lasting/groundbreaking Star Wars line by Kenner, and if not for Star Wars' 3-3/4" line success in the US, we wouldn't have had the beloved(and even longer-lasting) GI Joe A Real American Hero line. Maybe the Cycle Armor pays homage to Transformers and/or Microman, or the Rider Armors from Genesis Climber Mospeada, or maybe even both. Being that the Pursuit Of Cobra line takes design influence from certain video games, taking influence from anime isn't a stretch. If anything, the debut of the Cycle Armor set last year at JoeCon 2009 was a unique surprise that no one was expecting. Could it be a move by Hasbro to test the waters for transformable 3-3/4" vehicles, possibly for the Micronauts movie? More importantly, do all of you want transforming vehicles, compatible with GI Joe and other in-scale lines by Hasbro? |

HISS Tank boards member kennywr22 has passed along the latest update regarding the launch of GI Joe Pursuit Of Cobra at Target. Unfortunately, as of now, it won't be a complete launch. It seems that everything but the GI Joe Pursuit Of Cobra Wave 1 Bravo Vehicles will launch at Target on August 1st. Here's what kennywr22 passed along: Ok so i went looking today to see if the figures are starting to move out of the dcs anywhere and they haven't( i believe they will by the end of the week). I checked on the mechs and they are starting to leave the dc's and the alphas also. That is when i realized no bravos even shipping to the dc's!! I also checked the new planogram and guess what, no bravos on the set! This is all very odd and i truly believe it was an oversight or mistake made by someone in the ordering department and i fully expect target to get them a little later and have a revision done to include them in the aisle. But as of now you won't see the bravos at target anytime soon so grab them when you see them.(got my 3 from tru with the 1 wolfhound at buy one get one 50% off). If i see anything change i will let you know. That is all for now. Stay tuned for more information! |

GI Joe Cobra #6 is due out tomorrow July 21st, hit the title bar to see how it turned out! HISS Tank presents to you, an early review for GI Joe Cobra #6! IDW takes on Cobra La, and it's not what you might expect! This issue is part 2 of Serpentor's origin, and the 2nd part of Scoop's infiltration, or rather, introduction, to The Coil! GI Joe Cobra #6 Credits Publisher: IDW Publishing Written By: Mike Costa & Christos N. Gage Art by: Segio Carrera & J.K. Woodward Colors by: Peter Dawes & J.K. Woodward Letters by: Chris Mowry Assistant Editor: Carlos Guzman Editor: Andy Schmidt Covers Cover A - Art by Antonio Fuso Cover B - Art by Ben Templesmith Review IDW takes on 2 groups in this issue:
Yet there is nothing childish about this issue at all. Personally, I was never a fan of Cobra La. Cobra La's introduction in the GI Joe The Movie(1987) left me shaking my head as a child. My reaction to Golobulus was "come on, a guy that is part snake....really?"(you'll see the term Golu bulas used in this issue; it's a neat play on words and someone "familiar" shows up too, only not as visually...surprising as you once knew him). Yet I knew if there was any creative team able to breathe new life into characters best left forgotten, and end up with a good story, it would be Costa & Gage. Speaking of breathing new life into someone, I think fans will be satisfied with Scoop. His use in this issue reminds me of the 1st GI Joe Cobra mini-series. It poses the same question we all had for Chuckles; how is this guy going to get out? Will he even get out? Like Chuckles, the odds are definitely against Scoop, as The Coil wraps its coils around him. Fuso won't be back for a couple more issues, but noothing seems obtrusive with regards to the artwork. The team of Carrera/Woodward/Dawes did a great job maintaining a consistent look. The background story told here for Cobra La is not very sci fi or over the top. Costa & Gage put a unique twist on them and The Coil. The back story is told well with painted pages. The art team nailed these sequences; the handwritten lettering is a neat touch too. Will Chuckles and Scoop cross paths? Can Scoop free himself from Serpentor's clutches? This issue is another exciting addition to the GI Joe Cobra series, and one that you should pick up. |

Here's some of what Scotty97 had to say about this upcoming figure: The new air filter interchangeable head is actually pretty neat, and seems like something straight out of a slightly futuristic war movie. I thought I would hate it, but Hasbro won me over on this one. The unmasked head with removable helmet and goggles(not you Gary) feels totally classic. This figure really brings the best of the past and future together, in my opinion. I kinda wish he came with the classic rifle that has become Dusty's trademark, but the Kriss is really cool Dusty(Desert Battle) is planned for release in fall. |

That was only the beginning, as the story continues in GI Joe #156! GI Joe A Real American Hero #156 Credits Publisher: IDW Publishing Written By: Larry Hama Art by: Agustin Padilla Colors by: J. Brown Letters by: Robbie Robbins Assistant Editor: Carlos Guzman Editor: Andy Schmidt Covers Cover A - Art by Agustin Padilla colors by J. Brown Cover B - Art by Rod Whigham colors by Andrew Crossley Cover RI - Art by Larry Hama Review To say that GI Joe A Real American Hero #156 is exciting would be an understatement. This issue reminds me of the excitement I had when reading GI Joe Origins #1. My excitement has nothing to do with the fact that this issue continues A Real American Hero. It's just a damn good issue! The entire issue is action packed. The Joes are on the run, similar to the upcoming premise of GI Joe Renegades. This makes for an exciting situation, since Cobra has more power, and even the US government on their side. It would be boring if GI Joe didn't have the odds against them, so I'm glad IDW went this route. The issue basically shows how some of the Joes are scrambling to regroup, in different parts of the world. The pressure is on, and it's exciting to see how they deal with it. The circumstances are not in their favor at all. Some characters were given slight redesigns, others, heavy. The Red Ninjas show up, and they look awesome. I want figures of these versions. If Agustin Padilla redesigned them, he did a great job. Speaking of Padilla, his artwork in this issue matches the action scripted by Hama, very well. We saw hints of this in his OPERATION HISS issues, but I think his work here is an improvement. It really shines and I think this is a great pairing for a creative team. The only thing I didn't like were the random specks of ink. They aren't as prevalent here as in previous issues by Padilla, but they are still noticeable. They only work well in panels with a lot of action, otherwise they just look like they were added on accident. Without ninjas, there wouldn't be a certain silent character that Hama is fond of using. Nonetheless, his presence is welcome, and I was anticipating seeing him in action. He isn't overused, and it was great seeing him back in action, with the help of a certain friend... The issue left me with some questions. Is the Joe team going to be missing a member in the next issue? Who won the "cat and mouse" game? In any case, definitely pick this issue up. Those of you who loved the original continuity will be happy, and those of you who just want a great comic in general will be satisfied too. |

Hit the title bar to see the answers! Hasbro has just sent us our answers for the 3rd round of Hasbro GI Joe 2010 Q&A. These answers are pretty informative. The mystery of HISS Interlock revealed! "Classic GI Joe" continued? Did you like building vehicles as a child? Well..... Here are the questions and answers for the latest round: 1) It was noted that the POC Hiss Tank V5 is packaged in such a manner(disassembled) that the HISS Tank V5 must be "built" as was the norm for vehicles in the 80's and 90's. This clearly allows for a more compact product and does not take up as much shelf space as pre-assembled vehicles. Does this open the door for larger vehicles to be considered or any other changes in future plans concerning vehicles? *For example, other companies are releasing larger and more realistic GI Joe compatible vehicles at a fraction of cost compared to recent, smaller ROC releases.* A) The move to "build it yourself" style vehicles in the 1982 GI JOE RAH line was in part a way for Hasbro to offer a high-detail, high quality item at an affordable price during a time of expensive plastic and labor costs. As the brand began to build momentum, many of us who grew up with the brand found that this "built it yourself" approach also made for an enjoyable part of the toy experience. In fact, members of the G.I. Joe team recall breaking missiles and little treads off of spru runners to hand to parents who were helping to build vehicles. Moving forward, we are looking at this "build it yourself" approach again to offer good quality items for affordable prices to our kids and fans alike as well as unique play experience. 2) We understand that a toy company's first priority is to make toys for children to play with and that adult collectors are only a secondary concern. Well the Transformers line always seems to cater quite well to both children and adults. The Transformers "Classics" and "Generations" lines were a great way for adults to relive their childhood memories by being able to collect updated versions of their original "Generation 1" favorites. It also gave kids a chance to learn about the classic characters and also about the history of the Transformers Universe. The G.I. Joe "25th Anniversary" line did exactly the same thing. The only difference is that the Transformers "Classics" line has been released on 3 separate occasions now(Classics, Classics/Universe 2.0; Generations which the fandom looks at as Classics 3.0). In addition, in reference to Star Wars, while Clone Wars was released, a Legacy line of figures for collectors was released, and Legends figures have been a staple for the past few years, even alongside movie/cartoon lines. Is this kind of treatment, a line which throws a bone to collectors, sold in tandem with the "main" toyline, off limits? A)The concept of doing a classic line while at the same time running a kid based line is not "off limits". While we don't have current plans for a line segment like this, we wouldn't rule it out in the future - as we always like to say "nothing is ever off the table." 3) How does the upcoming alpha HISS Scout attach to the Hiss Tank V.5? I see gray clips and the sticker that says "Hiss Interlock" so I assume it attaches there. What is the purpose of this? Rather, what is the the thought behind this? A) When designing the HISS v5 and the HISS Scout the designers worked together to have the Scout "towable" by the larger HISS v5. You'll notice the small grey clips at the back of the HISS v5. These clips can connect the the roll-cage bars on the HISS scout, right above where the pilot sits in the cockpit of the HISS Scout. The smaller HISS ends up hanging aft of the HISS v5, as if it is being "towed" in to the battle, or "towed" away. It is not a main feature, as the result of the two HISS vehicles connected together is rather, well, awkward looking. But, like many things in the POC line, interchangeability is key, and are features are hidden like Easter Eggs across the line. Congratulations on finding one of the Easter Eggs! |
