Fans of the Marvel run of G.I. Joe A Real American Hero, there is a treat in store for you on Ebay! Longtime G.I. Joe artist Andy Wildman has put the signed original cover for G.I. Joe #132 up for auction:
Original Comic Book art from GI Joe. This art is from the Marvel Comics series. Written by the legendary Larry Hama, who I loved working with. Those scripts, unforgetable. The cover is penciled and inked by me and is one of my favourite of the whole run. A great opportunity to draw a classic Snake Eyes pose while he smashes up a robot ;-) No irony intended This was the second series that I did for Marvel US and overlapped with the X-Men Adventures comic that I then went on to do. |

IDW Publishing has passed along their latest press release concerning the recently sold out, G.I. Joe Cobra II #1!
IDW Announces Two Sold-Out Titles in One Week New comics series TRANSFORMERS: Last Stand of the Wreckers #1 and G.I. JOE: COBRA II #1 both going to second printing San Diego, CA (February 1, 2010) – The excitement keeps growing for IDW Publishing’s TRANSFORMERS and G.I. JOE comics, with two new sold-out series last week. On Wednesday, January 27th, IDW released G.I. JOE: COBRA II #1, a continuation of the acclaimed COBRA series, and TRANSFORMERS: Last Stand of the WRECKERS #1, a new miniseries spinning out of IDW’s ongoing story. Both comics flew off the shelves and are already sold-out though Diamond. Under license from Hasbro, IDW is rushing to a second printing for each, and fans can expect them in stores on February 10th. “This is a really exciting time for fans of both TRANSFORMERS and G.I. JOE,” said Andy Schmidt, editor of both lines of comics for IDW. “We’ve tried a lot of new things and had a lot of success due to the support of not only the existing fan base but also many newer fans who are discovering these comics for the first time.” In TRANSFORMERS: Last Stand of the WRECKERS, fan-favorite writer and artist Nick Roche helms the five-issue series, which rounds out IDW's trifecta of new TRANSFORMERS comics, including the new ongoing series and TRANSFORMERS: BUMBLEBEE. WRECKERS gives fans a taste of what's been happening off of Earth as the WRECKERS investigate a prison planet that fell to the evil DECEPTICONS three years ago. Called “a festival of awesome” by TFormers.com, the second printing of WRECKERS #1 will feature a variant cover by Roche. “TRANSFORMERS fans braved some pretty bad Chicago weather to come out and get TRANSFORMERS: Last Stand of the WRECKERS #1 on Wednesday. Both old and new fans of TRANSFORMERS alike were quickly drawn to the book due to the amazing art by fan-favorite Nick Roche. And honestly, nobody can resist a Kup story,” said Jimmy PS Hayes of Graham Cracker Comics in Wheaton, IL. Written by Mike Costa and Christos Gage, G.I. JOE: COBRA II continues the danger and suspense of the acclaimed G.I. JOE: COBRA series, as the G.I. JOE team penetrates the evil COBRA organization and eventually comes face to face with COBRA COMMANDER himself. The masterful art of Antonio Fuso gives new layers to the subtle yet undeniable divide that fans have witnessed within COBRA, highlighted in the celebrated G.I. JOE: COBRA Special #1. The second printing of G.I. JOE: COBRA II #1 will offer an exclusive new variant cover treatment. “With the recent success of the G.I. JOE comics, we were on top of this new series and made plans to bring it in. Early demand caused us to increase quantities before release and we still sold out the first week,” commented Mike D'Elia of Astro-Zombies in Albuquerque, NM. TRANSFORMERS: Last Stand of the WRECKERS #1 (of 5; $3.99; 32 pages; full color, 2nd printing) will be available in stores on February 10th. Diamond order code: DEC09 8305. G.I. JOE: COBRA II #1 ($3.99; 32 pages; full color; 2nd printing) will be available in stores on February 10th. Diamond order code: DEC09 8306. Comic Book Resources has posted their interview with the creative team behind G.I. Joe Origins #12, which is set for release tomorrow and focuses on The Baroness!
“G.I. Joe Origins” #12 reveals the early days of the Baroness, who left behind her wealthy aristocratic family to embark on a life of terrorism with Cobra. “As a kid, I was always fascinated by the Patty Hearst story (look her up, yung’uns!) and when Andy Schmidt (editor of all things 'G.I. Joe' at IDW) called me about doing a Baroness story, I immediately wanted to see what happened in her life that ultimately led her to Cobra,” writer Marc Andreyko told CBR. “Was she a good girl manipulated into doing bad or was this a life she actively pursued with the blinders off? “I love the fact that she is such a hard-core character,” Andreyko added. “In many ways, I find her far more intimidating than Destro or Cobra Commander, mostly because the Baroness more than holds her own in the testosterone-laden world of the Joes. “And I have to give Hasbro some major props on this one. My story is a little darker, a little grittier than the normal Joe story and the folks at Hasbro were totally supportive about the direction. You never know how working with licensors will be, and this time was an absolute dream.” Click on the title bar to join the discussion! |

Allkpop has posted a new article which states that actor Lee Byung Hun, AKA Storm Shadow from G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra, will have a more substantial role in G.I. Joe 2. Also listed is the tentative start for filming this year, and pending release date in 2012:
Korean actor Lee Byung Hun is set to receive a more substantial role in the sequel to G.I. Joe. The character of Storm Shadow, played by the IRIS star, will be given more emphasis in the upcoming sequel to 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Paramount Pictures acknowledged that Lee’s work contributed much to the success of the first film and are developing more stories around his character. Lee has been getting much attention outside of the Korean market recently for his roles in G.I. Joe and last years I Come with the Rain, where he starred along side Josh Hartnett and Japanese actor Takuya Kimura. Filming for the sequel is scheduled to begin in August with a pending 2012 release. Will Storm Shadow reveal to Snake Eyes that he did not kill the Hard Master? This was shown not only in the G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra Official Movie Adaptation by IDW Publishing but was also confirmed by Stephen Sommers in an interview prior to the premiere of the movie last year. Will Storm Shadow defect to the G.I. Joe team? |

Delicateangel01 has posted an auction on Ebay for a Cobra Mantis Sub with Aqua Viper Officer in a alpha class box for the upcoming 2010 V.A.M.P. from the Pursuit of Cobra line. V.AM.P. you ask? Remember that new ground vehicle that looked like a VAMP which was revealed last month?
So your probably wondering why on earth is a Cobra vehicle of all things, in a G.I. Joe package? That's because this is a pre-production sample! Changes might be made before final production, but in any case this packaging confirms 3 things:

The pre-production sample packaging we showed you yesterday is not the only sample on Ebay, as delicateangel01 has posted another auction for the new packaging, this time with an Armored Panther with Sgt. Thunderblast packed within. The graphics are just placeholders but give us an idea for what to expect, with regards to text and imagery for the new bravo class H.I.S.S. Tank and V.A.M.P..
The box itself is(as you can see), meant for alpha class vehicles. Vehicles such as the upcoming Doom Cycle, retooled Ghost HAWK, and Cycle Armor. A small disclaimer is taped to the back of the box, stating that the size and design may vary slightly once in production. We'll see more later this week at Toy Fair, however being that this box is more compact and seemingly slimmer than the Rise of Cobra packaging, there may not be many changes left aside from more graphics. Seeking Alpha has posted the transcript for Hasbro's 4th quarter 2009 earnings call, and this transcript provides some interesting information on G.I. Joe. Brian Goldner CEO of Hasbro mentions that G.I. Joe 2 might premiere in 2012, ignoring the pricepoint challenges of G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra toys was a mistake, and the new cartoon may premiere as early as late this year:
The total brand performance of Transformers, G.I. Joe, and Nerf delivered double digit growth in 2009 across multiple product categories. G.I. Joe recorded revenue in excess of $125 million and Nerf continued its growth, increasing 25% driven by continued growth in the US and the expansion of the brand internationally. We are working on Transformers animation and would certainly see some Transformers both the opportunity for the classic Transformers as well as some new Transformers episodes to get out some time this year. I will tell you we’re also working on G.I. Joe the second movie and looking at animation whether that’s for late ’10 or ’11, we’ll make some decisions on that. Transformers 3 as a motion picture we’re well underway and working on a script, working with Michael Bay and Paramount. Hayley Wolff - Rochdale Securities Can you give us the split of international versus US for Transformers and G.I. Joe? With Transformers how it compared to ’07? Brian Goldner I don’t know that I have those splits in front of me but typically our product lines are about 60/40 domestic to international. Transformers are probably right along those lines. G.I. Joe a little more weighted towards the US probably 70/30, although the box office was more even. Hayley Wolff - Rochdale Securities Follow on appetite for G.I. Joe in the international markets given the success in the box office? Brian Goldner I think one of the big mistakes we made on G.I. Joe was really just in the price point. It really had less to do with the enjoyment of property. In fact if you look at the DVD sales they were quite strong and property performed really well. At the lower price points G.I. Joe has performed very well, in fact we shipped G.I. Joe product in the fourth quarter and feel very good about, we did some research with consumers and see great consumer appetite for the brand. We’ve begun work on the second film as well as looking at television. For us it was more a matter of probably ignoring some of the price point challenges that are out there from a consumer spending standpoint as we developed the line 18 months ahead of the movie launch. So with this outlook on the G.I. Joe brand, what will the rest of the year have in store for us? We'll find out later this week at Toy Fair. |

HISS Tank boards members ShockVal and Scotty97 have posted all new images of Arctic Threat Destro from the Pursuit of Cobra line! Destro(Arctic Threat) features some new parts and unique arctic deco. This is the very 1st arctic version of Destro made and it results in a neat look for him. Here's what ShockVal had to say about Destro(Arctic Threat):
Just got my new Destro from WS Toys. Actually a pretty cool figure. I'm easier to please than most I guess though. I am still trying to figure out the ice. It appears to go on an arm and shoulder. Destro's or the enemy's? I like the paint job on the figure and his jacket. I have not tried out the "water gun" yet. The other hand gun is the the same that came with the Artic Doc just in all black. His lower legs seemed different to me. Not sure I've seen these yet. You parts hounds correct me there please. Nice frost job on his head. Which by the way pops off very easily. Going to need some work to make it stay on really well. Click on the title bar to see more! |

USA Today has posted an article featuring commentary by G.I. Joe Cobra II writers Christos Gage & Mike Costa. Starting in June, G.I. Joe Cobra will be promoted to an ongoing monthly series starting with G.I. Joe Cobra II #5! The article mentions a new character to the IDW continuity, Crystal Ball!
"We have a lot of opportunity to take things that are beloved but inherently silly, and really find the pieces that really could work," says Costa, who reveals his pet character, the Rasputin-esque Cobra hypnotist Crystal Ball, in Cobra II No. 2 (in stores Feb. 17). "I loved the idea of a Svengali-like villain, someone who was so creepy and magnetic. He doesn't have supernatural powers, but it doesn't matter. He's so good at manipulating people that he might as well have." Costa also describes their take on Cobra Commander, who will debut in G.I. Joe Cobra II #4: "Who is that guy who somehow has unlimited resources to fund a private war to take over the world? Why would you even want to take over the world? It's a totally cartoon, silly idea that makes no sense," Costa says. Yet they figured it out, and he looks like no other Cobra Commander seen in the course of nearly 30 years: This dude wears the familiar reflective mask (a needed touch, Gage says) but is clad in European-flavored business threads that make him distinctly foreign to American eyes. When readers see him in the fourth issue, Gage says, "he is going to be looking like the guy who runs the biggest, evilest corporation in the world." Also brought up was another popular dictator from Cobra lore, none other than Serpentor! Serpentor debuts in G.I. Joe Cobra II #5: And it was Gage's idea to incorporate Serpentor in the second story arc that begins in issue No. 5. In the cartoon mythology, Serpentor was the Cobra emperor genetically engineered from the DNA of Julius Caesar, Napoleon, Genghis Khan, Ivan the Terrible and some other dug-up conquerors, and Costa says that when Gage first pitched him as a plot point in a conference call, the idea was met with laughter. But Gage came up with a way to make the whole concept less ludicrous and still keep a part of the genetics angle. "It might be the best idea in terms of taking a ridiculous character and making the concept work that we have had for the entire series," Costa says. With the popular G.I. Joe Cobra series promoted to an ongoing monthly title this summer, which other iconic Cobra characters will debut? How will Gage, Costa, and Fuso up the ante once summer starts? |
