I believe this is my first post here.
Repaint of the Marvel Universe extremis armor Iron Man with the shield from the vibranium armor mk.VI Iron Man. Straightened up the legs a bit, removed some plastic from the hip joints so he could put his feet together, drilled a hole through his right hand to hold a flag pole. Added a wash and viola. Now I just need to find a better flag. |

beautiful, I just picked up Extremis the other day and it has the best paint of all the MU figs I have had so far. How did you straighten up the legs? Did removing the plastic from the legs loosen it much?

Thanks for the welcome, all. I'll be sure to post up more customs.
I did a wash of black into all the lines but it seems to be pretty subtle in this lighting. I can take some more photos in some white light to show them more clearly, if you'd like. Prowl, I didn't remove any plastic from the socket itself just a little notch out of the opening to the socket at the bottom on the inside thighs. In fact, when I cut it out it looked like it was suppose to be that way anyway according to the mold separation lines. I also removed all the little bumps on the ball of the joint which frees up movement a lot without loosening the joint, provided that you only remove the bump and don't cut too much into the ball. On straightening the legs, I taped the side 'pods' down with enough 6mm masking tape to go around the hips and taped the legs together at the lower thigh and upper calves and used a hairdryer to heat the plastic. Then I just let it cool down for the rest of the day and it was good to go. |

gotcha, my Extremis and my SW Thor both have the very stiff hips and I knew that Thor had the bumps so I will look into trimming those off, what did you use, an Exacto knife? As for the legs wow, taping them down before heating really did a great job, I do kind of wish IM wasn't so bowlegged, I may try doing that. Was there any problem with tape residue?
That's the exact reason I modded the legs. IM looks like John Wayne had spilled coffee on his pants and just jumped off the horse. >.< The tape I use is Tamiya masking tape so it has little tack, that helped. If you use something that does leave anything, Goo gone is always your friend. |

Looks fantastic! What paints did you use? Did you airbrush it? If not... how did you get the paint so smooth?

Thanks for the kind words.
Soupy, I use a large variety of paints but the ones I use the most are GSI Creos Mr. Color lacquer paints. But for things like washes or certain details, I'll use whatever I have nearby. Yes, I do use an airbrush; two, actually. I have a Wave Super airbrush which is very similar to an Iwata HP-C and a Badger 150 airbrush. The Wave is a double action gravity feed for smaller areas and detail work like shadows or highlights and the Badger is a single action siphon feed for my large area paint jobs. Here are a few more pics in better light. I really appreciate the comments, all. Oh and I forgot to mention I didn't do a wash on the silver part of the legs. For some reason I just liked it that way. |

Same here. I was really kind of disappointed by the upcoming Iron Patriot figure so I started to work on my own 6" Iron Patriot that's based off Granov's Dark Avengers #1 cover. Hopefully it will turn out alright. Lots of major bodywork to be done.
