All in all I feel this is a pretty solid wave. Weakest figure IMO is Supes, maybe Mr. Miracle. Loved the kalibak but my figures were missing the accessories (no blaster/ back weapon). Killer Moth is my favorite of the series. Dr. Impossible is neat, passed on long haired superman. I found them at a wal-mart and they had a TON.
good luck guys! |

I found Hawkman, Mullet Superman, and Mr. Miracle today at a Paducah Kentucky Wal-Mart. I don't have time to get reviews up for a couple days at Articulated Discussion but I have put together a little image preview teaser.
Be warned, numerous relatively big photos. I'm loving them so far, especially Hawkman. You can check back in the next couple days and I'll have reviews up, hopefully having found the rest of the wave.

Heh my walmarts don't even carry this line! The only one that does is far away near the courthouses. I hope all stores start getting these figures in with good quantity, in my area I have barely seen these things! Distribution problems no matter who is to blame, still plague Mattel's collector orientated figures.

Wave 5 was the Wal-Mart exclusive with the Metallo Build a Figure. The line up includes Riddler, Eradicator, amazo, Black Lightning and the Atom.

Oh. Didn't know it was a Walmart exclusive. I have NEVER seen these at a Walmart. And I have quite a few of them around me.

Honestly Mr. Miracle is less than impressive, IMO. I really was pleased with killer moth though!

i just finished the set today, but i think Mr. Miracle is pretty good. he's got some neat accessories, and i found his paint to actually be well done (which is a feat in this line)... though Dr. Impossible is far better, but he has NO accessories (bummer). Superman is really the weak one of the line... but oh well, Hawkman makes up from him, that's for sure. question though: was Kalibak supposed to have more than his mace as an accessory? his belt has a notch to hold the club, but i guess something else could have gone there... was there going to be more, but was cancelled ala the robot Penguin? oh, and Killer Moth does look a lot better in person than in pics... in fact, i just smile every time i look at him in his crazy outfit! |

These showed up at my local Wal-Mart, much to my surprise as the line had never been there before. Nope - not even the exclusive wave. Then, I'd only seen maybe two waves - once each, at Target, and that's it.
I HAD my chance to grab the whole wave, plus variants, but my income just can't justify it right now. $11.88 each? Bah. I only got Hawkman, Mr. Miracle, and the variant Supes. Last edited by Ktulu; 01-14-2009 at 01:05 PM.. |

yeah, i didn't even look at the prices when i snagged the first three i saw, but was very surprised by the price. Wal-Mart usually beats everyone on prices, but Toys R Us and Meijer both sell theirs at 10.99... and Target just had theirs on sale for 8.99 (which is when i snagged Wave 4). what sucks is that wave 7 needs six figures to build Atom Smasher, and at that price, things are heading the way of Marvel Legends... just too big a price to buy all these figures to build an extra one. the Ares Wave and Fing Fang Foom wave were a joke. you had to shell out $90 to build a figure smaller than the Crossbones in the line for Ares... and well over $100, plus buy even MORE Hulk figures no one wanted, to build Fin Fang Foom. robbery! at least Red Hulk only need 6, but again, at $15 a piece, that's a joke... even if you could find the Target exclusives... |

EDIT: Whoop. Was thinking there were only 6 figures in the wave -- forgot about Barda. So yeah, 7 figures in the wave, 6 with a piece of Al, 1 with a base. You're right. Last edited by Jarodimus; 01-14-2009 at 10:08 PM.. |

I was saddened when I heard Atom Smasher would be a BAF(shouldn't be surprising but still) because there is no way I'll be able to get him for a reasonable price. I want Ted and Booster and maybe Barda but that's only if I can get Mister Miracle, so there's no way I'll shell out the money even if it's over time.
Besides, I haven't seen any new DCU figures past the wave with Orion, Red Tornado and Penguin. I've literally seen no new waves anywhere else except a Batman Beyond once out of town. It's insane. |

All my nearest Wallys dont carry this line, but Ive seen IH popping up so hopefully that will change. I hope I can find wave 6 at retail as I got all of the previous waves on the internet. Even so I only want Shazam (Captain Marvel), Hawkman and Kalibak. The rest Ill sell loose on ebay.

Hang in there, guys. Wave 6 has started showing up at Lafayette, Indiana W*Ms, none of which have carried anything DC since the Luthor wave of DCSH.

It is Robbery, I got the Red Hulk wave on ebay for $70 instead of pulling my hair out trying to drive to three target stores. I already have begun pulling my hair regarldess because I had to buy 3 figures off ebay to complete my Ares wave and I still need three figures to complete my Fin Fang Foom and I waited on those to go on clearance. GAH!!! |

Man I'm sorry for you guys that are into Marvel Legends. I think it's a really neat line, and has a pretty big assortment of characters, but damn do they rape you--especially lately. I have purchased (but may sell) a fair sized set of spider-man classics and while nice, I'm not sure they're up to par with the DCUC figures.

I found my Wave 6 last week, all except for Superman(either of them). So poor, dimwitted Kalibak only has one arm(for now). Whoever said that they were missing his accessory, did you look in Superman's bubble when you opened him? It's supposed to be packed in with the left arm. I almost panicked when I saw that it didn't come with the torso(as Despero's accessories did).
If memory serves me, Kalibak was also supposed to come with some sort of blaster, which I believe now comes with the Wave 8 Green/Yellow Parademon. Also, Mr. Miracle friggin rocks! I have to say that Killer Moth is my least favorite of this wave, eventhough I don't have either Superman yet. The only think I don't care for about Mr. Mircale is that his cape is super stiff, but oh well. I had absolutely no QC problems with any of my figures from this wave, except for a tiny amount of paint slop, which I can live with. Now all I need to do is get the rest of Wave 5(my Walmart started carrying these after the reset), along with all 4 2pks, Nightwing, and Deathstroke(neither of which I've ever seen in stores). |

you know, Killer Moth is interesting. he's SO obnoxious looking, that he actually is pretty cool... it's like he has transcended ugliness, to a level beyond beauty. and as for QC, this was the first wave i've gotten that i didn't tear off a head, arm, or leg of one of the figures when loosening the joints... take that as wish. |

The worst QC I saw on this wave was indeed paint. There was one Superman figure so bad that his left eye had essentially been applied on his upper cheek rather than right underneath the eyebrows, pretty off the mark. That's hilarious. Other than stupid shit like that, I don't think I noticed any wrong parts or broken joints in the package.
You know...maybe it's just my life long preference for Marvel *dodges eggs and tomatoes* (HEY I LIKE BOTH OK) but I do wonder how this line gets more praise than ML sometimes, heh. When found in top form, yeah, the toys are really great, and the completed collect/connect figures are more impressive than a good deal of the recent Marvel BAFs - but with it being so hard to find them to begin with, let alone with adequate paint and decent build quality, it's really been a bitter sweet experience dealing with these. Getting tired of waiting for BBTS to fill my preorder. Don't know how they managed to get half the wave in, but they still only have Hawkman, MM, and Dr. I in stock. So, when I found Hawkman and MM at Walmart last night, I snapped them up.
Gotta say, Hawkman's now the best of the line for me. Damned impressive! Mr. Miracle's no slouch, either. He's got newly sculpted SHOE SOLES, for Pete's sake! His accessories are awesome, too -- tons of sculpted detail and little painted lights. I just wish he could hold his Mother Box. Quote:
I noticed that Hawkman's hip joint workings are differently sculpted than most of the other male figures. Instead of having a right-angled area right below the peg, it's curved. Looking through the others I have handy (everyone but wave 1), only Cyborg and Sinestro have the same shape. It puts less plastic in contact with the pelvis, so maybe it's less likely to suffer from glue/paint lock. Quote:
Wow. I've not seen anything that bad. My SC Sinestro's got a tiny smudge on his chest symbol, a friend's Batman Beyond has the same, and I've got a couple figs with mild smudging at the border between two colors. Guess I've been lucky on the paint front. Not so much on the joints, though. |
