IDW Publishing has passed along the latest press release about Max Brooks's upcoming GI Joe Hearts and Minds series!
Max Brooks Pens Next Generation of G.I. JOE Comics New York Times bestselling author and IDW release new comic series in May San Diego, CA (March 4, 2010) – The critically-acclaimed and bestselling author of World War Z, the Zombie Survival Guide and The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks brings his unique and acclaimed style to G.I. JOE comics with a five-issue miniseries: G.I. JOE: Hearts & Minds, coming in May under license from Hasbro. The award-winning Max Brooks crafts a G.I. JOE series for an America at war, starkly contrasting intensely brutal portrayals of the dark side of the human condition with the light of hope in the most unlikely places. “I tried to write a series as harsh and complicated as the times we’re living in,” said Brooks. Exploring the effects of real-world war on the individual, every issue of G.I. JOE: Hearts & Minds features two chapters, each spotlighting a different G.I. JOE or COBRA character. Brooks pulls no punches from the very beginning, starting the series with chapters on MAJOR BLUDD and SPIRIT. “This is the G.I. JOE book that isn't about action figures. It's about people like you and me,” said IDW G.I. JOE editor Andy Schmidt. “And that makes it even more chilling than any zombie novel could be, because this one isn't about a plague--this one is about us.” Brooks’s dark stories are masterfully brought to life by artists Howard Chaykin and Antonio Fuso, who will each also provide covers. In addition to the regular edition, IDW will be offering a limited number of signed editions. An award-winning writer, Brooks has brought his own unique style to both TV and print, including as part of the writing team for “Saturday Night Live” for forty episodes from 2001 to 2003, which won an Emmy in 2002. Brooks’s The Zombie Survival Guide was released in 2003 and has sold well over one million copies worldwide. World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War followed in 2006, became an instant bestseller and is currently in development to be a major motion picture. Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks, Brooks’s most recent book, debuted at number one on the New York Times graphic novel bestseller list. G.I. JOE: Hearts & Minds #1 (of 5, $3.99, 32 pages, full color) will be available in stores in May. Diamond order code: MAR10 0998. G.I. JOE: Hearts & Minds #1 Signed Edition ($9.99, 32 pages, full color) will be available in stores in May. Diamond order code: MAR10 0999. So the print's in excellent condition. Looks like we'll be doing GI JOE: THE MOVIE on Blu-ray. Love it or hate it, the 1987 animated movie has been demand for quite some time, with space allocated for it in the GI Joe A Real American Hero DVD Footlocker Set released by Shout! Factory last year. It was also originally intended to be released in one of the 25th anniversary/Modern Era DVD Battle Packs. After years of waiting, movie fans will finally be able to see the original movie again, this time in high definition! |

HISS Tank boards member Tom Feister has posted both the inked and colored versions of the G.I. Joe Origins #14 cover on his deviantart page. This cover was done as an experiment. Here's what he had to say:"
I wanted to try my version of what a woodcut would look like. The story takes place in a jungle setting and I looked at some South American art and the bright vibrant colors they use. The last few covers have been very representational for me and I wanted to take a step away from that and get back to something more graphic. I'm very lucky to work with people that give me free reign to experiment. Click on the title bar to see both versions! GI Joe Origins #14 will be released next month! |

TVShowsOnDVD has posted further details on the upcoming release of the 1987 animated GI Joe Movie, a release that's been eagerly awaited by fans of the original cartoon series. That spare space in your GI Joe DVD Footlocker Set won't be empty for long!
A specific release date hasn't been finalized yet, but it is clear that the work on this project is moving along nicely. Shout! DVD producer Brian Ward tweeted a week ago that an "excellent condition print" of the movie has been located, and to expect "a complete HD transfer" in 1080p on the Blu-ray version. Shout!'s plans are apparently to present this production for the first time ever in the widescreen video format, as originally intended by the producers (per storyboards and film logs currently in Shout!'s possession). Even before confirming that the high-def Blu-ray version was a go (to accompany the already-planned DVD version), Shout! was already putting together a number of extras for this release..as much as they can squeeze onto a single disc. At the beginning of this month, a commentary track was recorded with writer/editor Buzz Dixon, who served as a story consultant on G.I. Joe: The Movie; it is meant for inclusion on Shout!'s upcoming release. Also being considered is the possibility of including any of the remaining "knowing is half the battle" PSAs that were left off of Shout!'s previous releases of the regular series (this assumes, of course, that decent source material has since been located for each of them...which is why they had been left off the earlier DVDs). The final list of bonus material for Shout! Factory's release of G.I. Joe: The Movie, on DVD and Blu-ray Disc, will be revealed soon when the studio issues a formal announcement. What other features will be included in this highly anticipated release? |

There are going to be two different versions of the Sgt. Slaughter 3.75-inch figure – a primary figure (PF) and variant figure (VF), sold separately. Re: accessories, both the PF and VF will come with a whistle and a non-removable hat. The PF also comes with a weight belt, baton, and microphone; the VF also comes with a machine gun and revolver. There is the potential for the PF and VF to be sold online at HasbroToyShop.com following SDCC, but that is not guaranteed based on the “special edition” nature of the PF and the “special SPECIAL edition” nature of the VF. Pricing is TBA. As announced at New York Toy Fair: Sgt. Slaughter himself will be present at the Hasbro booth at SDCC (date/time TBA). Click on the title bar to see more! |
